I could still feel the throbbing pain in my back as I began to approach the cabin from the rear. Somehow it wasn’t surprising to see it there. They had to have somewhere to house Regan while they were waiting for us. I kept myself low, my eyes scanning every direction but sensing nothing was amiss. Perhaps I thought with a bit of a frown, they were all inside and had made provisions for when we gained access. It was the only thing that made sense. Clearly, Alpha Kai had not brought men with him. This was to our advantage. I had thought he would be wise enough to have some form of security outside the premises he was keeping Regan though. Never mind, all I wanted was to find my mate and get her the hell out of here.

My foot slipped and then it felt as though the earth suddenly gave way beneath me. I tried to gain purchase, but it was far too late, and my body fell down onto large spikes that had been cleverly left there to injure or kill anybody who got too close to the cabin. I felt a spike impale my shoulder while the rest of me miraculously managed to avoid the other ones. As I fell, I gave a shout and then as the spike impaled me, I let out a strangled cry of pain. The spikes had wolfsbane on the ends of them. It immediately weakened me. Not only that but they were made of silver. My flesh burned. I tried to yank at it but was forced to pull my hands away as they burnt at the touch. Alpha Kai had planned for this to happen. I had underestimated him.
Shit. I was well and truly trapped. The pain was excruciating. I knew I had already given myself away. It was too late now. tried to reach Xander, in order to warn him about the traps that had been laid out near the cabin, but it was like trying to reach a blank canvas. Even though the wolfsbane weakened me, I thought I should have been able to communicate with my twin. Xander was nonresponsive though. Had he too, been tricked into a trap of some description? I gritted my teeth, trying to pull myself upwards off the spike but didn’t have enough leverage in order to do so. I collapsed, panting hard. It was a miracle that the spikes had missed vital arteries and even my heart. I felt as though I had failed my mate. Why hadn’t I been more careful? Why hadn’t I looked more closely at the ground as I approached? My concern for Regan had been overwhelming to the point that I had forgotten all about my training or perhaps I had thought that Heather Ramona and Alpha Kai–were too stupid to pull such dirty tricks. My arrogance was my folly and now I was paying the price.
“Well, well, well, look what the cat dragged in.”
I heard a voice above me and blinked, temporarily blinded by the sunlight that was pouring in, unable to see who it was, recognizing the voice instantly. I stiffened, staring up at him in defiance. No matter what, I refused to let him intimidate

He moved closer and I saw the smirk on his face. He was relishing in my pain. “You and your brother, it was so easy to trap the both of you. How naïve the two of you are. I’ve been doing this far longer than you’ve been born” he said drawing his shoulder’s back “and your arrogance is going to cost all three of you, your mate included your lives.”
“What did you do to Regan” I snarled, daring him to answer.
What a coward he was to hurt a woman. I could feel myself wanting to lunge at him even though I recognized that was impossible at the moment.
He laughed. “I just marked her in a different way, that’s all. I have certain proclivities that other women don’t necessarily like”

Had he raped her? I could feel my rage increasing by the second
“Don’t worry, I didn’t touch her in that way” he said with a roll of his eyes. “There was hardly enough time for that, and I have a mate to satisfy me in that manner.”
Bastard. He had still put his hands on her, even though he had cenfirmed she was still alive.
I breathed a sigh of relief even though I continued to feel rage towards the man. He looked down at me and then shook his head, a look of amusement on his face. “Too bad that the spikes didn’t kill you, it would have been a far more merciful death than what I have planned for you” he added darkly.
He knelt by the trap, and I felt him grab me by the arms and pull I screamed as I felt the burning pain shoot through my insides and then I was free of the spike and swaying on my feet. He pulled me up and then dropped me carelessly to the ground. I felt a prick in my arm before I could scramble to my feet. What had he just drugged me with?
“You’re hardly in a position to fight but I’m going to ensure that you can’t. When you wake up, we’ll start the party” he chuckled, enjoying himself immensely.
“My father” I began in a threatening manner, and he laughed again.
“Your father will be too late to save your asses. Not only that, but I’ve told him that if he dares to approach, I will slit your throats before he can get to you. He doesn’t dare do anything rash.”
. Shit. Not that I wanted our father to be responsible for saving us. That was on me and Xander. I tried to struggle against him as he bent down and picked me up. For an elderly Alpha, I was incredulous at how strong he appeared to be. I swallowed hard, feeling dizzy and disorientated. Blood was trickling down my body from my wound. It wouldn’t be easy to heal with silver inside of me. It could take hours, maybe even a day or more. At that time, who knew what Alpha Kai and Heather Ramona were going to do to us or worse, Regan? Goddamnit why couldn’t I move! It was frustrating. I felt as weak as a newborn babe. So much for the strength of an Alpha, I thought bitterly.
“Ah the arrogance of youth” he commented dryly as he draped me over his shoulder like I was nothing more than a sack of vegetables. “I’ve been wanting to get my hands on you for the longest time and now you come practically waltzing into my lap,” he said gleefully.
“I’m going to kill you” I murmured drowsily, determined not to let him have the last word and he laughed out loud, his head flinging backward.
I had greatly amused him. I ground my teeth together wishing I could land a hit on him or even cause him to trip and fall. “You can’t even stand,” Alpha Kai said dismissively as my eyes began to feel heavy. “I doubt you can fight me, the so–called almighty Xavier Dominion” he added sarcastically as I felt my body beginning to go limp.
“If it comforts you, know that you’re going to be seeing your mate real soon” he vowed and I felt shudders run down my spine.
What condition would Regan be in when we saw her? How would we ever be able to make this up to her? It was our fault that she had been taken. We should have been more careful in keeping her safe.
Regan was the reason we had come here in the first place and now we had both failed to save our mate. Was she hurt? What about the baby? I could feel all sorts of questions flickering inside my mind even as pain and exhaustion began to take over me. I fought hard, but in the end, it was futile and my eyes closed, succumbing to the darkness as I fell unconscious and knew no more.
