Chapter 131

Celeste POV

Fiona, I didn’t mean tomy voice trails off as she looks at me sharply, her eyes narrowing at me

She’s holding a piece of paper in her hand. I watch as her hand tightly clenches, crumpling it in her fist. She looks as though she’s in a state of disbelief. A myriad of expressions cover her face. Disbelief, Shock, Awe, and finally Happiness. I’m taken aback, expecting her to be furious but she’s almost dancing on the ground

Don’t pretend you didn’t tell me the truth unintentionally Celeste and insult my intelligence Celesteshe sneers as I shrug, letting the mask slip away

It’s not as though my parents are there to see what I’m saying or doing anyway. Quite frankly, I’m ecstatic that Fiona is leaving. Now I don’t have to share anything and that includes becoming the leader of the pack. I knew my parents would come up with some sort of compromise, maybe make both of us Alphas of the pack if she remained. Now I didn’t have to concern myself with such a thing happening

Fine,I said as she smirked at me, So what if I did tell you? What do you care?I sneer

I don’t,” she told me simply as my lips parted slightly in shock. In fact, I want to thank you Celesteshe continued as I tried not to gape at her, you finally convinced me to do what I’ve been thinking about all these years.”

You should have left sooner,” I said icily. Then you wouldn’t have had to be so miserable. We both hate each other, it’s not like I’ve made a secret about how I feel about you.”

She laughed. I scowled at her. Since when did she have the nerve to act so happy around me? Where was the fear, the apprehension she normally exhibited? She was acting as though she was suddenly fearless and I didn’t like it. I hadn’t made her life a complete misery for the last few years for her to suddenly act as though it meant nothing

Oh Celeste, you haven’t changed. What a shame that our mother and our fathers haven’t seen your true natureshe sighed shaking her head, but you’ve always been careful to show only one side to them and another to me, haven’t youshe said narrowing her eyes and regarding me for a moment

1 remained silent. It was true. Our mother and fathers thought I was sweet, loving, and kind. When it came to how I treated Fiona though…well none of those attributes applied. My hatred for her had only grown stronger over the years, along with my determination to see her gone. She smiled, as though reading my mind. It was strange how she had suddenly let go of her own anger and I wondered if it had something to do with that piece of paper in her hand or her upcoming birthday party. That still rankled. Fiona would get to celebrate her birthday before me and it pissed me off. It also meant that she would get her wolf before me. All the attention would be focused on her. It wouldn’t do. Not at all

She waved the paper at me. Don’t worry Celesteher voice is mocking I just got word that Father kept his promise. The Black Lightning Pack has agreed to the transfer. I’m going to be out of your hair. I get to move, have a new beginning, and get the hell away from you and my socalled parents. It’s a winwin situationshe explained, her voice rising in excitement

Did you doubt they wouldn’t? They are just as eager to get rid of you as I amI said with glee. Doesn’t that hurt? None of them have tried to persuade you to stay1 added wickedly, doesn’t that tell you something? Isn’t that painful?I prodded

She widened her eyes Once upon a time it might haveshe admitted lowly. But now I feel nothing at all towards any of youshe confessed. I don’t even hate you, Celeste, even though I have every reason to. In fact she eyed me consideringlyI wish you all the best for the future. Something tells me the pack is going to see right through you and see your vindictive nature.”

LiesI snapped I am going to be the best Alpha this pack has ever seen. Nobody is going to dare challenge me or try to bring me down.”

Of course,” she said agreeably, nodding at me

Damnit, she was pissing me off. I opened my mouth, ready to give her a piece of my mind, when none other than our

mother began to walk towards us, preventing me from doing just that. I forced a smile upon my face. Fiona scowled, looking as though she was about to walk away. My mother noticed. sadness setting upon her face

Fiona waitshe called

Is there something you want Regan?Fiona’s voice is cold

My mother flinches from Fiona’s casual addressement of her. Fiona no longer addresses her as mother and I know how much that’s hurting her. I try to keep my satisfaction to myself for now. The wedge in our family is only growing wider, and Fiona’s determination to sever family ties only creating a huge divide. It’s beautiful to see

It’s about your birthday celebrationmy mother’s voice is timid as she addresses Fiona I wanted to make sure that you were okay with everything.”

I really don’t careFiona’s voice is chilly so long as afterward I’m free to leave as we all agreed. I have the transfer agreement right hereshe waved the paper triumphantly in her hand as my mother blanched and I have everything packed already. I have no desire to celebrate my birthday but since you are all so insistentshe paused and glared at my mother who looked stricken then, by all means, celebrate it how you like. It will be the last time you see me anywayshe added

Fionamy mother’s voice shakes can’t you let bygones be bygones at least for one day? It’s your eighteenth birthday, the day you get your wolf. We’re all looking forward to seeing what you change intoshe pleaded please let us join you for that

momentous occasion.”

She’s practically begging by now. It’s embarrassing. I try not to smirk as Fiona looks up at my mother. There is darkness in her eyes but also sympathy. Sympathy? Don’t tell me she’s about to give up her vendetta against our family now. I want to yell in frustration as Fiona continues to hesitate. I need her to keep carrying on like a brat. That way, by the time she’s gone everybody will hate her and see me as nothing but the victim of a sister filled with hatred

Please,my mother asks once more

I roll my eyes. Fiona is nibbling her lower lip. There’s not much time until her birthday. It’s a sore point with me. I had been certain I was the older one until I had done all that research. Not that it mattered. She still wasn’t a fullblood Dominion like

  1. me

FineFiona exhaled, looking exasperated. You can be with me for my first shift, but only because it’s less painful when family is with you. You are not my familyshe added with a glower as my mother nodded quickly, But the least you can do is help with the painshe added darkly

Damnit! What was she thinking? If she acceded on this, who was to say she wouldn’t begin to accede to other things? Before I could open my mouth to protest, my mother turned to me. Celeste, you will be there too, won’t you? Naturally, you want to be there for your sister and help her through her transition. It would be a good learning experience for what you can expect when it comes time for you to shift tooshe added with excitement as I stared at her dumbly

Did she really think I wanted to attend her precious Fiona’s shift? I wanted to laugh incredulously. Mother could be oblivious sometimes. Fiona’s eyes rest on me and I swear there is a smirk on her face

Yes Celeste, she said smiling widely at me it will be good for you to find out what to expect when it’s your turn. I’m sure that it will prove to be an invaluable experience for youshe bit out and then turned to my stricken mother I should have known that Celeste was the reason for you asking in the first place. It always comes down to her, doesn’t it?she growled and then as my mother’s face crumpled, she turned and stormed away without another word

Just like that, Fiona was back to hating everyone and my mother was looking as though she’d been struck in the face. I gloated, enjoying everybody’s misery and looking forward to the day that Fiona left. Once she was gone, I would have free rein in the pack and nobody would be comparing me to such a worthless mutt
