Chapter 134
Chapter 134
Celeste POV
Tonight couldn’t have gone any better if I had personally planned it myself. I had been anxiously awaiting to see what kind of wolf Fiona would get. Would hers be better than mine? Would she be like my mother and be a white wolf or a black wolf- like her father? It had caused me no end of anxiety and as I stood beneath the moonlight with all of my parents, I could see how nervous they all were, genuinely wanting only the best for her, despite her attempts to sever the bonds between all of
- us.
But time passed and nothing happened. At first, I thought maybe I had gotten the timing wrong or that I was imagining things. It had never occurred to me that Fiona would never get her wolf. It was rare in our packs but it did occasionally happen. Those that did not get a wolf were always looked down upon. They were treated differently, Fiona was already treated differently by those in the pack, but once news spread that she hadn’t even shifted, that her wolf was not there, she would be treated even worse than before. A malicious grin spread across my face as I watched Fiona run towards the pack house sobbing loudly. She was devastated. I couldn’t be happier..
My mother moved, intending to go to her and my hand shot out, taking hold of her arm. She looked at me questioningly.
“Don’t” I said softly as my father’s shifted uncomfortably on their feet. “She needs some space right now. She hates us remember? This is just another reason for her to be even angrier with us, even though it’s not our fault.”
“She’s right” Father Xander spoke, looking at me with sorrow. “My daughter is hurting right now and no doubt wants to lash out. I never thought” he breathed, looking at his brother “I never dreamed she wouldn’t get her wolf. Not when she had my Alpha DNA” he added confused, a bewildered expression on his face.
“Neither did I” admitted Xavier “and what’s worse is that we insisted on being her for her so we were all witnesses to her embarrassment” he added darkly.
I decided to use this time to my advantage, suddenly allowing tears to flood my own eyes, and causing my parents to instantly turn to me. I let a tear trail down my cheek, causing my mother to touch my shoulder in concern.
“Celeste,” she said, tilting her head “what is it? What’s wrong?” she tried to soothe me.
I blinked big eyes at her. “It’s just, no it’s okay, it’s selfish of me to even be worrying about it now” I choked out.
“Celeste you can talk to us about anything” Father Xavier spoke, his tone firm as he eyed me.
I bowed my head, pretending to be hesitant. “It’s just that” I whispered, licking my lips as my mouth was dry, “what if the same thing happens to me?” I sobbed “what if I don’t get my wolf as well?”
Silence for a moment and then my mother gathered me into a tight embrace, her head on top of my forehead.
“Sweetheart, that won’t happen,” she told me fiercely as I continued to sniffle. “You have my DNA and your father’s. A white wolf and an Alpha wolf. It’s impossible that you won’t get your wolf” she tried to reassure me.
Oh, I had no doubts that I would get my wolf but I needed to manipulate them into feeling sorry for me instead of Fiona.
“But Fiona has father’s DNA“I sobbed, looking at Father Xander “and she didn’t shift. How am I meant to lead the pack if I don’t become an Alpha wolf or white one?”
“Oh, honey. Don’t put that pressure on yourself” Mother continued to hold me, even as my fathers moved closer, Father Xander putting a gentle hand on my other shoulder and Father Xavier putting his arm around mother and me. “No matter what, you are still the heir to the pack. That doesn’t change. But you will get your wolf” she continued to convince me. “I don’t know why Fiona didn’t but you are an entirely different person. I wouldn’t stress as much as you are. This was just a conundrum” she frowned “and it’s not likely to happen to both of you. I guess we could count ourselves lucky that if it were to happen to one of you, it happened to Fiona” she said with a sigh.
“Regan” Father Xander sounded incensed as he moved back and glowered at her. “What do you mean by that?”

“Oh” she gasped, putting a hand to her mouth and looking at her mates guiltily “I don’t know what I was thinking to say such a thing. Of course I didn’t mean it” she stammered but my father looked angry enough to burst right now.
“If you didn’t mean it you wouldn’t have said it. Fiona didn’t deserve what happened tonight, no matter what you might think his tone was dark “she’s just as much my daughter as Celeste is” he growled.
“I know” my mother whispered.
“Okay, okay, Calm down Xander” my other father quickly intervened “Regan made a mistake and she apologized. Let’s all just worry about what we do now. Fiona’s party is today” he added looking down at his watch “and something tells me she’s not going to be in a particularly partying mood now” he sighed.
“I don’t think so eithe,r” I said trying not to smirk.
Her birthday party was ruined and I hadn’t even had to step in and do something. It was fortuitous.
“Well, maybe she’ll cheer up when she gets the news” my father Xander mumbled, putting his hands in his pockets and staring blindly up at the sky. “I didn’t get a chance to tell her yet” he added.
Tell her what? I looked at my father, feeling suspicious. What was he up to? Why was he smiling softly to himself?
“Father” my voice dripped with sugary sweetness “what are you talking about? What news? I’m sure that whatever it is, Fiona would like to hear it.”
Or I could make sure she didn’t depending on what it was. I waited, staring at him with anticipation.
“The Alpha of the Black Lightning pack has agreed to attend her party in order to get to know her before she transfers to his pack.”
I almost laughed. The Alpha of the Black Lightning pack would no longer want anything to do with Fiona now that she was wolfless and weak. I doubted he would approve the transfer now either but my father looked eager as he spoke. Poor fool. He really did like his daughter Fiona, I thought shaking my head.
“But Xander” my mother spoke, wringing her hands together “without her wolf, is he going to want to allow the transfer? You know how packs can be funny about those who can’t shift and he in particular…” her voice trailed off but everybody understood the implications of what she was attempting to say.
“He wouldn’t dare” Father Xander hissed.
“He could and I wouldn’t blame him” Father Xavier spoke heavily “it’s something we’ll have to discuss when he gets here. It’s not fair to let her go to him when we know for sure she won’t be able to help defend the pack or contribute in a wolf form. We have to do the right thing by him.”
“I promised her she could transfer. He’s looking for a wife and I was hoping…” Father Xander looked ill.
“You were hoping he would take Fiona as his wife?” my wife sounded surprised while I glowered at my father.
It was rumored that the Alpha of the Black Lignting pack was extremely handsome and also opposed to having a mate or wife. How could he possibly think that Fiona had a chance with a man like that? I tried not to smirk, even as my mind began to whirl with possibilities. Maybe Fiona didn’t stand a chance, but somebody as beautiful and as angelic looking as me…well I could try and get his attention, couldn’t I?
“Well why don’t we see what happens?” My mother sounds resigned now.
“I’ll try and convince her to go to the party later” I promised, knowing I had no intention whatsoever of doing that.
If Fiona didn’t go to her own party, then I could try and seduce the Alpha of the Black Lightning pack and maybe even convince him to merge packs.

“Let’s just go back to bed” Mother sighed.
We nodded and began to head back towards the pack house, but my mind was whirling with possibilities and cunning plans. Fiona had done me a favor and now, I was determined to hook my fingers into none other than Alpha Liam.
