Chapter 142
Chapter 142
Liam POV
What the hell was wrong with these people? It was as though they didn’t see Fiona for the remarkable woman she truly was. Did they compare her to that stupid girl Celeste and find her wanting, simply because she had failed to shift? That didn’t bother me. I would protect my mate. I didn’t care that she didn’t have a wolf. I cared that she was my other half, a blessing from the moon goddess, and already I could see that she had a heart of gold. This family, it was going to be their loss when Fiona was gone. I had seen this beford, where one daughter or son was favored over the other and it always resulted in a breakdown between the family members and loss of contact on the less favored child’s end. These people were fools. Fiona was worth ten times more than that little bitch Celeste. At least she hadn’t tried to drug and seduce me. She was innocent of all wrongdoings. I felt my chest tighten as I looked at her and saw the beautiful girl she truly was.
“Fiona” I took her hands and held them tightly. “I will never betray you. I want you to be my mate. If you are happy to come back with me, we can organize your things and get you out of here.”
She would never have to step foot in this miserable pack if she didn’t want to. It would be entirely her choice and her decision, Privately, I thought she was better off.
I ignored her family. She looked up at me her eyes shining. “I barely know you” she hesitated “and um, I’m not quite ready to.” she blushed
It didn’t take a genius to figure out what she was alluding to. Being a mate meant more than just mating with each other. I just wanted her beside me. The other stuff, well that could some with time. She could take all the time she needed as long as she let me take care of her.
Besides, it was not as if I would even broach the subject considering what she had just gone through. What kind of man did she take me for? I simply wanted her back at my pack where she could be treated like the princess, I saw her for. Not to mention she would be safe from harm. Not just physical, I thought absently, pushing away a loose strand of her hair from her face, but emotional as well. This girl had been neglected far too long and now I wanted her to experience what it was like to be showered with love and affection. I wasn’t as ruthless as the rumors suggested and for my mate, I would do anything. The thought I hadn’t wanted one before barely crossed my mind. I never thought I would find her and now I had, I didn’t want to let her go.
“You can have a separate room,” I told her softly, even though it pained having to make that compromise or rather, sacrifice. “We don’t need to rush into things. You were planning on transferring anyway, so how about it?”
“Not so fast you deceiving little bitch,” a voice roared and we turned to see two mature–aged people striding towards us, looks of rage on their faces.
It was a woman and a man and both of them resembled the boy I had just killed but I could have been wrong.
I pushed Fiona behind me in order to protect her from any sudden attacks. I didn’t know who these people were, but they looked as though they wanted to tear my mate limb from limb. Regan spoke quickly, a look of unease on her face. She looked uncomfortable as she spoke to the both of them, no doubt hoping to diffuse the tension and the awkward situation.
“Mary, John. I know that you must be upset…” she began, a look of sympathy on her face.
“Upset?” the woman cried, tears streaming down her face as she glared at myself and Fiona. “Upset doesn’t even begin to cover it. There is no way our son would have attacked that little tart” she added, pointing at me as I covered Fiona.
“Watch how you address my mate” I snarled.
I didn’t appreciate the insult, and I was doing everything not to lose control of myself or of my wolf who was just as furious at the name the woman had just called Fiona.
The woman had to be Graham’s mother. It was the only thing that made sense, which meant the man was the father. I knew they would be angry, but they had to know the truth. Their son was nothing more than a predator and I would not apologize for saving my mate’s life. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Chapter 142
“Graham was a good boy,” the man spoke, glaring at us with hatred, “He would never do the things you accused him of”
“Are you calling hy daughter a liar?” Alpha Xander spoke, his tone dark.
Finally, the man attempted to protect his daughter but it was a little late. I could see the pain in Fiona’s eyes as I glanced at her, seeing the hurt that they hadn’t spoke up in her defense immediately.
The parents of Graham immediately recognized their mistake. They stiffened. “No Alpha, but we are saying that there is a mistake. You know Graham. Why would he possibly decide to attack Fiona?” Mary pleaded, her voice shaking,
“I don’t know the reason but I do know that my daughter is telling the truth. Alpha Liam was a witness and he was the one to protect her from your son. I know this is hard for you, but there is no doubt in my mind that Graham did as they have said.”
“But he was my son” she wailed suddenly filled with grief, dropping to her knees and sinking onto the ground as I looked at them both expressionless. “He was the only child we had and now he’s gone” she shrieked, putting a hand to her chest. “You can’t possibly understand the pain we are going through. Did you have to kill him?” she sobbed, looking up at me with devastation on her face. “Couldn’t you have just prevented him from further attacks and restrained him?” she whispered brokenly.
“I feel for your loss but I do not condone attacks on innocent women and especially not sexual assault. His punishment was merciful compared to what he would have suffered if he had been in my pack” I said evenly as Fiona slowly came out from behind me. “I protected my mate and I would not hesitate to do so again.”
“Mate,” the man said, narrowing his eyes and looking at Fiona. “She’s your mate?” he asked looking shocked.
“Yes and anybody who mistreats or disrespects her automatically makes an enemy out of me” I informed them, looking at her parents in that regard as well. “Do I make myself clear?”
If they thought they could retaliate in some way and harm Fiona, I had just informed them what would happen if they tried. The woman swallowed hard, still sobbing as the man reached down and grabbed her by the arm, helping her to her feet.
“Come on Mary,” he said softly as she began to wail some more. “We should go home. The very least you can do is grant my son a proper funeral” he shot a nasty glance at Regan and the others.
I could not believe his audacity at how he chose to speak to his Alphas and Luna but held my tongue. It was not my problem.
“We will mourn his loss but a funeral will only be held for close family out of respect for you,” Regan told them softly. “Given his crimes, we won’t be grieving his loss.”
The woman looked as though she wanted to object, but she swallowed her pride and allowed herself to be led away by her husband, although she continued to sob as they made their way back to their home. I was surprised as Fiona cleared her throat and then fixed her eyes on me. Perhaps that scene had persuaded her to do what I felt was the right thing.
“Yes,” she told me, looking away from her family. “I’ll come back with you. I need to pack my things and then we can go. I don’t” she paused, her breath hitching slightly, “I don’t want to spend another minute here if I can avoid it. I just want to get away.”
