My mate is quiet, I study her as we make the drive back to my pack. I glance at the nape of her neck, my mouth salivating at the thought of making her my mate. I feel as though I am growing further and further accustomed to her. I wish that I could make some small talk but it’s as though I have lost my voice, my mouth going dry. Why was she so quiet? Was she upset by the farewell her family had given her? I knew that my mother and father would no doubt accept her and even welcome her wholeheartedly into the pack. My mother was going to be ecstatic when she discovered that I had a fated mate. I could almost imagine the happiness shining on her face. I sighed, feeling somewhat amused. I knew the news would spread around the pack quickly.

We pull into the driveway and I open the door, rushing around to open hers before she can get it open herself. She looks surprised by the gesture, but willingly takes my hand, allowing me to help her out. I opened the backseat and grabbed her luggage, handing the stuffed bear to her to hold. 1 motion towards the pack house, Fiona’s face beginning to smile widely as she takes in how large and well–maintained it is. I take pride in my house and my grounds, making sure everything is immaculate, she begins to follow me, obediently. I barely make it to the door when I’m greeted by a fuming Delia.

“You bastard” she hisses as I try not to wince. “Is it true?” she demands and I shoot a sheepish expression at Fiona.

I may have failed to inform her about the fact I had dated several or rather slept with, several pack members, and Delia was now letting the cat out of the bag.

I draw my shoulders back and glare at her, my tone dripping with condemnation.

“Watch how you speak to your Alpha, Delia,” I said quietly.

She scowls, folding her arms across her chest. “I don’t care. Who is this girl?” she sneered.

Fiona had an indecipherable expression on her face which was beginning to make not only me but my wolf uneasy. We had to get rid of this infuriating woman and quickly.

“Delia” I snarled, watching as her eyes widened in surprise as I began to use my Alpha tone on her. “I will not tolerate any disrespect from anyone, least of all you. You have no business being here, now leave” I added darkly.

She opened her mouth to protest but was unable to fight against the Alpha tone. I watched in satisfaction as she vanished, her feet practically stomping as she walked away from the both of us. I glanced at my mate but she was already beginning to avoid my eyes, Shit. Delia had already ruined the relationship between us.

“Where did you say my room was?” Fiona’s voice is cool.

“Fiona, you have to believe me, that woman didn’t mean anything to me,” I said as she glared at me. “I swear, the only person that has ever mattered to me is my mate. Nobody else. I might not have saved myself,” I admitted lowly as she blinked big teary eyes at me, “but that doesn’t mean that I’m not in love with you already. I feel bad I didn’t…” I trailed off as she deliberately opened the pack house door and stormed inside.

Great. She was mad. I followed behind her, wondering how best to fix this. The words of my mother came back to haunt

me.

“When are you going to find a luna instead of screwing all these whores?”

She’d been right. I had already ruined things between my mate and me and we hadn’t stepped foot inside the house. I should never have let Maryann’s rejection of me cause me to spiral like I had. I swallowed hard and gestured towards the

stairs.

Fiona began to head towards them. Her posture was stiff but there was a fierce expression on her face. It looked as though she was determined not to cry. I felt overwhelming guilt overcome me. I scrambled to catch up, walking in front of her to lead her to the top level. I tried to smile at her but she looked away.

Chapter 144

“I told you that we shouldn’t have been screwing all those loose women,” my wolf snarled “Now look at what you’ve done. Was it worth it?” he demanded icily, “because now our mate hates us!”

She doesn’t hate us, she’s hurt, I told him silently.

He snorted. “Keep telling yourself that. Right now she looks as though she would like nothing more than to reject us. If that happens, I’m no loner going to speak to you,” he declared angrily. “You got us into this mess, now fix it. I refuse to lose our mate because you acted like a damn manwhore,” he hissed.

Great. Even my wolf was giving me grief. I opened the door to Fiona’s bedroom silently and watched as she stepped inside. coming in behind her, I carefully placed her luggage on the floor, watching as she looked around the room, opening the door and even gasping slightly as she took in the adjoining bathroom. I wanted her to have all the creature comforts she possibly could. It wouldn’t do for my Luna to have a small bedroom. She needed to be treated like a princess. I wanted her in the same room as me, in my bed, but after this little spat, I doubted she would be amenable to that

“Fiona,” I said as she turned back to me, her arms folded across her chest. “What I had with Delia is all in the past. Same as with the other women. I promise you,” I vowed, taking hold of her hand and holding it tight as she tilted her head at me, flattening her lips in anger. “As long as you are with me, I won’t so much as look at another woman. My wofl, me, we both want nobody but you.”

“Yet you couldn’t keep it in your pants.”

Her voice was filled with grief. I ran a hand through my hair, feeling somewhat exasperated

“I didn’t think that I was going to be lucky enough to find my mate,” I blurted out, feeling helpless. “I figured that in the end. I was going to have to take a chosen one eventually. Yes, I’ve screwed up,” I admitted as she continued to stare at me, motionless, “but I’m willing to fix it. Don’t tell me that you haven’t…” I trailed off as tears filled her eyes.

“You’re a virgin,” I breathed.

She shifted on her feet. “Yes” she said, pinning her gaze on me. “I always wanted to save myself for my mate. It’s why I fought so hard against Graham. I have always thought of the mate bond as sacred and it turns out my mate didn’t think the same. she spat out.

I bowed my head. “Fiona, please, just cool down. I assure you they meant nothing,” I repeated tightly.

“So it would be okay if I did the same?” she questioned, raising a brow.

“No,” I growled, my hands clenching into fists.

The thought of her being with another man was enough to make me feel sick. She gave a bitter laugh. “I love the double standards. It’s alright for you to have slept with a bunch of women and act like a whore because you are a man but one suggestion that I sleep with another and you’re acting like a possessive asshole.”

“It’s not the same,” I hissed.

“Isn’t it?” her voice was nonchalant. “I’m not marked Alpha and I’m not claimed yet. I have the freedom to choose still. What if I decide I want a mate that has been as loyal as I have been? Do you think I want to deal with all the women you slept with? * Do you think that’s fair to ask of your Luna?” she pressed.

It wasn’t. I hadn’t even anticipated this scenario. I thought the other women would be happy that I had found my fated mate and willingly step back and allow her to take her place. Now I was regretting decisions and my own stupidity.

“I’ll make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

“It doesn’t matter,” her voice breaks. “Everytime I meet somebody now, it’s always going to be in the back of my mind that you might have slept with them. The thought of it makes me sick” she shouted, gaining her anger and pointing at the door.
