Chapter 145
Chapter 145
Fiona POV
Infuriating bastard. I can feel myself seething as I step foot inside the room. How dare he act as though what he had done meant nothing to him. Sure, I was naïve thinking that my mate might have saved himself for me, that he might have been as loyal as I had been, but this was different. It was one thing to know that my mate had been with other women and quite another to be greeted by one of them in person! He had no notion of how much I was hurting right now. Then he’d had the audacity to accuse me of overreacting. I doubted he would respond the same way if he’d been dealt the same cards. Why did men think they could get away with anything but demand differently from their partners? It wasn’t fair. I was sick of the double standards.
I slammed the door for good measure and then locked it, my temper raging by now. My luggage lay neatly on the ground, but I grabbed my pink threadbare stuffed bear and hopped onto the bed, fighting back the urge to cry. I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. Instead, I stared outside; watching as several pack members glanced curiously up at me, while others trained in the distance. The grounds were immense and well–maintained. It was evident that Alpha Liam not only appreciated what he had but worked hard to keep everything in working order. That was a sign of a good leader as well as one who was hardworking.
The pack house was luxurious and not something I had imagined. I knew that the Black Lightning pack was large, but this pack house and grounds were extensive. It looked as though there were ample opportunities to explore. I sighed, wrinkled my nose, and then heard my stomach give a loud deliberate growl. I was hungry. I hadn’t eaten much at my party and my belly was letting me know it. I hesitated and then yanked the door open. I wasn’t about to let my mate intimidate me into staying confined to my bedroom. I stepped out and made my way downstairs, following the delicious aroma to the kitchen. The smells are tantalizing and only make me hungrier, despite the hour of the day. I could almost imagine the food that was being prepared or consumed.
My mouth waters. Something smells delicious. I pause in the doorway, watching as Delia flips her hair over her shoulders and holds court with a bunch of pack members at the dining table.
“You should have seen the slut,” she sneered as I stood there motionless. “Acting as though she owned the place. She’s nothing special. Hell,” she added, narrowing her eyes at the other women who were listening intrigued. “I’m certain she doesn’t even have a wolf. What does that tell you?” she said smugly.
“No,” breathed another woman sitting beside Delia, looking at Delia in disbelief. “The Alpha couldn’t have taken a wolf less as his mate. It’s never been done before. They are so rare. Wouldn’t he be embarrassed to have somebody like this as his mate?” she asked nibbling on her lower lip.
“Exactly” another one chimed in, a blonde–haired pixie with blue eyes and the most disgusted look on his face. “Why would he take a pathetic mutt like that when he could have had any one of his members for his luna? Delia has been with him the longest and she’s one of the strongest fighters we have. If anybody should have been considered for the Luna position it should have been her.”
“He should reject her,” the one beside Delia said unexpectedly, crinkling her nose, a look of revulsion on her face. “I’m certainly not going to respect somebody like that girl as my Luna. Who does she think she is? I am loyal to Delia” she announced out loud.
Delia smirked. “Those words mean a lot to me, but without Alpha Liam coming to his senses, I’m afraid that all is lost,” she sighed dramatically.
The pixie shook her head. “No, it’s not. We just need to make him see how valuable you are to the pack. We can show off your skills while comparing you to that…that girl” she shot out as Delia nodded, her eyes gleaming. “Once he realizes how useless she is, then he’s sure to change his mind and reject her.”
Is that what they thought of me? I was merely weak and pathetic, my time here borrowed. I could feel my hands twitching as I fought back my desire to teach them all a lesson in humility and compassion. I stepped into the kitchen, unable to help myself any longer. If they wanted to gossip about me, then let them do that to my face! Immediately the kitchen went silent as the girl’s eyes widened in shock, perhaps recognizing that I had heard everything.”

“Don’t mind me,” I said mildly, looking each and every single one of them in the eyes. “I think you might have been busy in your conversation and didn’t hear me,” I added meaningfully.
“We were just…” the pixie began but Delia shot her a look and she fell silent.
It was clear that they were the ones who wanted to start trouble. I simply wanted to get some food and then hightail it out of here. I could not care less what these girls thought of me. They didn’t know me and truth be told, I had no desire to get to know any of them any better. They were the typical cliche mean girls that every pack had.
“Whatever we do, it’s none of your business. You aren’t our Luna yet and we have the right to speak our minds.”
“You do,” I said agreeably, several omegas turning to watch us, “but don’t you think it’s the height of rudeness to discuss somebody in their presence, let alone somebody who is mate to the Alpha?”
They laughed. “You won’t be Luna for long, if at all.”
Delia’s voice is telling. She glares at me. “Just because you are fated mates, doesn’t mean that you have his trust or his love. He’s not somebody who will do what you tell him and he sure as hell deserves a lot more than a mate who can’t even shift.”
She sniffed me, her eyes darkening for a moment. “I was right.” She turned to the girls triumphantly. “This bitch can’t even shift!”
The other two giggled. “It looks as though you have nothing to worry about then Delia,” the pixie grinned. “Give it enough time and the Alpha will realize how useless she really is.”
I let out a large exhale. This was no different from anything I had experienced back at my old pack. I saw the girls studying me and then one by one they stood up. The pixie pushed past me, almost shoving me into a nearby counter. The others followed suit. Delia paused in front of me, her mouth curved in displeasure.
“You might think you’re hot stuff right now,” she hissed “but I guarantee that you’re not going to be on top for long. I won’t give him up to somebody like you and I know that he’s still secretly in love with me.”
I laughed, incredulous. “Thanks for the warning but worry about yourself. I’m under no illusions as far as you posse are concerned. I’ve seen girls like you before, who rely on their looks and their friends to make their way in the pack. It never lasts long. I’ll give you a hint…” I leaned forward and pinned her with cold eyes. “True love always wins in the end. Remember that” I advised her and she growled before pushing past me, causing me to stagger backward slightly, and then
and your walked past with her nose raised in the air. It looked as though I was making enemies already and it hadn’t even been a day at the Black Lighting Pack.
An omega approached me. She bowed her head respectively. “Welcome Luna,” she said softly.
I waved a dismissive hand, shaking my head. “Please, don’t call me that. It’s simply Fiona” I told her, causing her to frown slightly. “I was wondering if it would be possible to get something to eat?” I grinned at her as she began to nod adamantly “I’m starving” I told her dramatically and watched as she grinned, seating myself at the table.
“Make yourself at home Luna. I’ll reheat some food for you and get you something to drink. You are welcome in the kitchen anytime” she added.
