Chapter 154
Third Person POV

Celeste examined the dress with a narrowed eye as her friend Claudia stood there patiently, not sure if the black designer dress was appropriate for her birthday or it it would stand out enough as they stood inside the plush boutique, tapping her fingers thoughtfully against her chin. It was a difficult decision to choose a designer dress and one that Celeste didn’t make lightly. Everything had to be perfect for her birthday. She had to be the most beautiful woman there. Nobody else could compete with her tomorrow. It simply would not do. Not even her friends would dare to try and take her shine.
“Not good enough,” she decided as she looked more closely at the dress and nodded to herself, Claudia nodded eagerly in agreement. “It has to be special for when I’m announced as the new Alpha and leader of the pack.”
She was going to be taking center stage after all. Not to mention with all the Alpha’s there, she might even be able to seduce one, even for just one night. She wasn’t exactly some naive virgin like her stupid half–sister had been. Not anymore anyway. She knew what she wanted and she had no qualms about going after it.
“Hang on Celeste, is that…?” Claudia gasped as Celeste turned to her with a questioning gaze. “Is that your sister Fiona?” she asked slowly, pointing to none other than Fiona who had just stepped inside the boutique dressed in a plain maxi dress and sandals.
Privately Celeste thought she looked like a homeless person or at least her mental image of one. Trust Fiona to come to an upmarket place like this looking like that. It was repulse and insulting.
“What is she doing here?” Celeste lifted her nose and stared haughtily at her half–sister who had yet to notice her presence as she glanced around the store. “It’s not as though she can afford anything decent anyway. Her mate wouldn’t give her this much cash to spend” she sneered, “whereas I have use of mother and father’s credit card,” she gloated.
Fiona spotted them. Celeste saw the look of happiness on her face promptly disappear and smirked inwardly to herself. Celeste stalked over to Fiona, pointing a perfectly manicured finger against her chest as Fiona paused in her tracks, Celeste’s expression filled with glee.
“Fiona,” she exclaimed in a rising voice that drifted through the store and brought many curious stares their way, “What on earth are you doing here? This place” she sniffed as her half–sister merely stared at her in bemusement, already anticipating what was going to happen next, “is hardly for the likes of you. I think there’s a thrift store about three doors down” she added with a chortle of laughter.
She enjoyed putting her sister in her place. Fiona hardly ever spoke up and tried to defend herself. It was almost too easy. She glanced conspiratorially at her friend, a small smile curved on her lips. There was nothing she liked better than embarrassing her half–sister like this. It had been a long time since she had been able to, with Fiona disappearing from the pack with that handsome Alpha Liam from the Black Lightning Pack. It wasn’t fair. Fiona didn’t deserve to be mates with the likes of him. It should have been Celeste who was chosen as his mate. It didn’t matter. If they were attending Celeste’s birthday party, then Celeste had big plans for the both of them It looked as though Fiona hadn’t put two and two together yet and discovered that Celeste was behind Graham’s attack on her. Good. Celeste thought she was awfully stupid not to have put the clues together but it worked in her favor that Fiona had failed to do so.
“Whether I can afford the clothes or not is no business of yours Celeste.”
Fiona was remarkably calm, thought Celeste studying her, causing her to have sudden doubts. Had Alpha Liam given the cash to Fiona to spend after all? It was rumored he was wealthy and one of the richest men in the country to go along with having the strongest pack as well.
She changed tactics, wanting to hurt Fiona more than anything as she continued to speak to her as though her half–sister was nothing more than a piece of garbage standing in front of her “Whatever. It doesn’t matter what you choose to wear you’ll still look like a bag of potatoes in it anyway. You can’t possibly compare to me. You’ll be in the background like you always are. I can’t imagine what that Alpha Liam sees in you,” she wrinkled her nose while Claudia openly laughed in the background.

Chapter 154
“Just give it a rest already Celeste. I’m sick of you putting me down and causing nothing but trouble. You are a malicious, vindictive bitch and you’re going to get your karma someday. I hope when you find your mate it’s somebody you deserve, The two of you should have the same personality type because I doubt that somebody like Liam or anybody with a good nature or heart would ever put up with the likes of you” Fiona spat out loud, instantly surprising Celeste.
Fiona had never talked to her like this before. Celeste didn’t like it. She reached out, her claws extending, showing she was already showing signs of getting her wolf. She lashed out at Fiona, causing a large gash across her cheek that rapidly began to bleed. That scar would remain when she attended whatever event she was going to. Even better if it happened to be at Celeste’s birthday party. Now Fiona couldn’t steal her limelight.
“Now you look even uglier” she laughed unapologetically as her half–sister put a hand to her cheek and stared at her in disbelief. “Serves you right. You’re nothing remember” she hissed as Fiona stared at her, the blood draining from her face. “Even with that mark on you,” she drawled, glancing meaningfully at Fiona’s neck and the tattoo that was freshly on it, “it doesn’t mean your mate isn’t capable of rejecting you. As for mother and father, well they’ve hardly expressed any sadness at your departure. In fact,” she leaned forward, her tone going dark, “they are grateful you chose to leave so they wouldn’t have to kick your sorry ass out of the pack when you failed to get your wolf and prove useful to anyone.”
It wasn’t true of course but Fiona didn’t know that. In fact, to Celeste’s displeasure, her parents wouldn’t shut up about Fiona and how much they missed her, pissing Celeste off immensely.
Fiona was fighting back tears now, Celeste noted with malicious glee. She had always been able to cause Fiona to cry. It was so easy to make her upset. Celeste glanced at her friend, Claudia whose eyes were twinkling as she regarded the two girls, knowing that Celeste would be the winner. Celeste always won when she faced off against Fiona. Sometimes, Claudia almost felt sorry for the girl, but she reminded herself it was better to stay in Celeste’s good graces than to become a victim of the girl’s vicious nature herself. She didn’t want to be the next one that Celeste laid eyes on.
Celeste giggled and then motioned to her friend impatiently. “Come on Claudia, lets‘ find a different place. The smell in here is a bit too much for me to handle and they let just any old person in” she sneered as Fiona stood there, her hands clenching into tight fists as she kept her tears at bay.
She didn’t want to give Celeste the satisfaction. Even though she knew Celeste could tell she was on the verge of breaking down. Maybe this was a stupid idea, she thought forlornly. She should never have come to the mall. But she hadn’t thought she would run into Celeste of all people. Suddenly she couldn’t keep her mouth shut any longer.
“Why are you so hateful Celeste?” Fiona blurted out as Celeste began to turn her back on them. “Why do you feel this need for me to continually be hurt by you? I’ve done nothing to you” she added lowly.
Celeste’s eyes glinted. She turned to glance over her shoulder, raising a brow at Fiona, and then slowly shook her head at the other girl.
“You didn’t have to do anything” she said calmly “you just never should have been born in the first place. My father was merciful enough to keep you but he should have given you away and let me take the role of leader and only child. I hate your very existence, but you already know that don’t you Fiona?” she added and then swept out of the boutique, a giggling Claudia in tow.
