Chapter 162
Chapter 162
Fiona POV
I cling to my mate’s hand as we arrive back at my old pack. The limousine pulls up, and I see the endless fairy lights, the luxurious decorations, and the sheer elegance of the festivities and feel a slight pang in my heart as I remember the small celebration of my own birthday and the distinct lack of effort that had been thrown into it. My own party and celebration had been anything but elegant but that was in the past now. Besides, I thought glancing at my mate, I had something far better in my life now, and I did not have to continually look to the past, but rather my future. Without Liam, I had no idea how my life would have turned out but I did know I could not live without this man now. He was everything to me, my whole world, and had been better to me than my own flesh and blood. There was no doubt in my mind that my mate loved me unconditionally, and that was worth far more than any gift that could ever be given to me.
My mate turns to me, a small smile curving on his lips. He gently strokes my cheek, and I close my eyes for a moment, lost in the delicate sensation. “You don’t have anything to worry about, my darling. You look absolutely stunning in that dress,” he purred, his eyes narrowing as he raked his gaze over me. “Good enough to eat, in fact,” he added saucily as I laughed at the hunger in his eyes.
He was not making any attempts to hide just how much he wanted me. In fact, I was almost grateful that he hadn’t attempted to ravish me on this trip because I suspected that I would not be able to withstand it.
We had been nothing if not hungry for each other after my first time, and he certainly hadn’t lacked for intimate moments. We had done it in several rooms of the pack house already. I had never thought I could be as adventurous as it turned out I was. It was only yesterday that I had lost my innocence to him, but my body had recovered quickly, and now it was as though we couldn’t get enough of each other. He had torn several of my outfits and lingerie, to the point that I had been forced to get new ones. I blushed at the memory even as I shook my head at him. We did not have time for this now. Although maybe on the way back…that could be a different story.
“You are not ruining this dress,” I said primly as he gave me a disappointed look, “besides we are here now so we can’t.”
The last thing I needed was for my so–called family to catch me making out with my mate right in front of the pack house. I would never be able to live it down. I sighed. I wished we hadn’t come here. I wished I had just stayed home where it was safe and where I could be enconcsed in my mate’s arms. I wish I hadn’t been so stubborn and insisted on coming here, but I wanted to show Celeste that I was no longer afraid of her.
There, that should fix him, I thought to myself wickedly, coming back to my senses and looking at me mate with a raised brow. I was not expecting him to look back at me mischievously.
“We could always do it in the limousine,” he suggested hopefully as my mouth dropped open in shock.
I had considered getting a hotel room on the way back not this! I might have thought about it when we got here, but I had pushed it aside in my mind, thinking it was too adventurous, but apparently my mate did not feel the same way!
The man was insatiable. If I didn’t know better, I would swear he was taking one of those little pills to help his stamina, although he claimed it was merely desire for me that made him so randy. I blinked, suddenly overtaken by images of us doing it in the limousine as he suggested, and felt my cheeks heat up. The idea of doing something so risky and out in public was enough to make me clench my thighs together as it became compelling to me. I hastily coughed and scrambled to get out of the limousine before he could read my mind, smoothing my dress down as he gave a low growl and then stepped out, joining me.
“Just so you know, that offer is always open. If the party becomes too boring, we could…” he began, and I coughed again, almost making a strangled sound.
Did the man only think with his cock? I tried not to laugh and instead took his arm, noting he had the present for Celeste in his other hand.
“No,” I told him thickly, my eyes scanning the grounds. “You’ll just have to be disappointed tonight,” I said primly.
I doubted we could get a hotel room at short notice but maybe if he behaved himself…

He sighed, looking resigned. We began to head towards the festivities. I spotted my adoptine after in the count as we placed the present on the table with the rest of the guess. Regan looked beaded box the always did. I always for the a drooping daisy in comparison. I didn’t look remotely like her but then, given the wasn’t my bloged moter that came as no surprise. I felt resentment simmer through me but fought it back, plattering a fake smile on my face as the approached
- me.
“Fiona, you look stunning,” she gushed, attempting to hug me.
I stepped back, observing her coolly. She dropped her hands, looking slightly upset My mas smoothed his jacket and cleared his throat. Mrs…” he began, but she shook her head
“Call me Regan,” she said faintly.
He nodded. “Regan, please allow me to offer congratulations on your daughter’s eighteentha Vie appreciate the imitation but my mate has severed ties with you as her family, and I think you need to remember that he said kindly
Her lip quivers. “I just wanted to see you,” she whispered, stricken
But I’ve heard these excuses before. I take a deep breath. 1 came for the sake of my partner’s pack so that we didn’t come across as rude. Not for you or my fathers”
She looked on the verge of tears. I dip my head at her. She gasps at the slight insult. I then glance at her with a frosty expression. “Where is the birthday girl” I asked, glancing around as Regan stood there, looking as though she was in a state of disbelief. “I wish to extend our courtesies to her.”
“She’s your sister, Fiona. Your real sister. Surely you can speak to her with some warmth Regan began, and I sorted.
“I severed ties, remember. She is not my sister. She never has nor will ever be my sister.” I said coldly. “I only wish to emend my congratulations on behalf of my pack, nothing more.”
Even then, it still felt like too much. She nibbled on her lower lip and then reluctantly pointed towards the pack house.
“She’s still getting ready. Maybe you should wait,” she said softly.
I shook my head. “I still remember where her room is. The sooner I get this over and done with, the sooner I can socialize with my mate.”
My tone is bitter. I thought seeing them again would grant me some sort of closure, but instead, it was only bringing up all the memories I had sought to bury. Regan gaped at me, but I intentionally turned my back on her and began to make my way to the pack house.
“Coming here was a mistake,” I muttered under my breath.
“Then we leave. Extend hour congratulations and then we go.” My mate’s voice is solemn, and I glance at him before halting and putting up my hand.
“I thank you for your concern, but I think this is something I need to do on my own. Can you wait out here for me?” I asked, and he looked as though he was about to refuse,e so I stood on tiptoes and kissed him on the lips. I pulled away and he a low growl.
“Five minutes” he said, observing me calmly, “you have five minutes and then I’m coming looking for you,” he warned.
Five minutes was plenty of time. A lifetime I thought as I nodded and turned around again. I only needed one to extend my blessings and then the two of us could disappear forever. Being here, was nothing if not haunted by my past memories and I shivered, knowing I could not get out of here fast enough. I will never make this same mistake again Screw them all, I owed them nothing and my desire to show Celeste that she no longer had any power over me was promptly going out the window.
