Chapter 70
Regan POV
I feel helpless. I had been forced to watch as they injected Xavier with wolfsbane before doing the same to me. Weakened, there wasn’t much I could do in order to help him, let alone myself. My body throbbed with pain and was littered with bruises. I could feel my lip swelling from where I had tried to fight as they restrained me. It had only resulted in more pain and a hard kick to my ribs, resulting in several possibly being broken. I could see Xavier standing there, his posture straight. his hands clenched into fists, and wondered whether he had the strength to fight at all, let alone in his human form. I knew that he was good at fighting, and was a phenomenal warrior, but weakened by wolfsbane? Not even an Alpha could hope to win in this sort of situation. I couldn’t see how Xavier could posibly hope to come out as the victor. He would be better off running and saving himself. My stomach chumed, however, at the thought of what was in store for me if Xavier didn’t win and did just that.
“Fight me and if you win, both of you will go free,” the man, or rogue called Jet said, his eyes fixed on Xavier.
I wanted to sob some more. It was my fault that we had gotten into this situation. Why hadn’t I been more careful when we had been trying to leave without giving ourselves away? How could I have been so careless, so clumsy? Another rogue knelt beside me and to my shock undid the ropes on my hands and les. It soon became evident why he was doing it as he roughly grabbed me by the hair, causing me to give a whimper ef pain Xavier’s head turned as he glanced over his shoulder at me. My hands clawed uselessly at the rogue’s hands, who forced me to kneel on my knees on the hard dirt.
“Watch as your mate dies a slow and painful death” the rogue holding me ordered, his breath disgustingly pungent, his teeth yellow and stained.
I struggled some more and ther was forced to accept defeat, my shoulders slumping in resignation while Xavier gritted his teeth, the expression on his face angrier than ever. I knew he didn’t like the fact that they were touching me, but there was nothing to be done about it at the present moment. Right now he needed to concentrate on jet and the threat he posed.
The disgusting rogue holding me trailed a finger down my check, and I gave a small sob as I cringed at the contact, his finger dirty and revolting. “Such a pretty little thing you are” he commented as Xavier listened, staring at Jet with malice in his eyes “I’m going to enjoy taking you” he added with glee.
Nausea overwhelms me and I gag, trying not to vomit, my stomach roiling. I’m at their mercy and they know it. My body is shaking violently as I try to keep myself from losing what little composure I have left
“You hear that” jet hissed with a grin on his face, standing there as Xavier’s jaw clenched harder. “They’re already to have her. Are you going to be a man or are you going to turn tail and run?” he taunted.
1 knew Xavier would never leave me. He wasn’t capable of it, even if I begged him to. Our mate bond was too strong and our relationship was continuing to grow even stronger. We loved each other too much, even if we hadn’t expressed it with words, we both knew. The rogue twisted his hand further in my hair, causing me more pain. Tears trailed down my cheeks. I heard Xavier suck in a breath. Before I could utter a word, he was lunging towards Jet who was taken aback by the speed that Xavier possessed even as weakened as he was. The other rogues remained in a circle, their red eyes gleaming, watching, waiting None of them made any moves to interfere, at least not yet. I wondered if they were waiting for Jet to issue instructions or if they were lying when it came to us leaving. There was no doubt in my mind that they would not let us go. Not when they had gone to so much trouble to catch us. My stomach roiled. I would rather die than face what they intended for me.I vowed to kill myself if it came down to it but trusted that Xavier knew what he was doing.
Smack. Xavier’s fist connected with Jet’s face, immediately blackening his eye. Instead of angering the rogue, it only made him look delighted.
“This one has some fight in him” he chuckled, dancing backward as Xavier continued to punch towards him, Jet’s body moving and dodging his quick attacks, causing Xavier to look frustrated. “It’s been a while since I’ve had anybody worthy to fight he gloated “this is going to be a lot of fun.”
Fun. The rogues thought this was all just entertainment for them Bastards. I hoped that karma got them good for this. I hoped they all died miserably.

Chapter 70
Smack. Xavier’s foot connected with Jet’s midsection, causing the rogue’s eyes to bulge in surprise as he doubled over in pain. Judging by the look on the rogues‘ face, Xavier had not held back on his strength even though it wouldn’t have been as strong as normal. I wanted to cheer out loud as the rogue congled out blood, the blood spattering onto the dirt and clearly visible, red crimson spots on the earth. The other rogues also looked shocked as their comrade was hurt. I continued to kneel, the rogue refusing to let go of my hair, although at least is grip had begun to loosen rather than tighten and cause me more pain.
“Lucky shot” sneered Jet, wiping his mouth as Xavier backed away, Jet’s eyes narrowing “Don’t think you’re going to get another one in quite so easily” he warned.
He began to lunge towards Xavier, tackling him to the floor. For moment it was impossible to discern anything as the two men wrestled with each other, rolling and punching, kicking and failing. I held my breath, concerned for my mate, unable to do anything but stare helplessly at the scene while the other regues all chuckled and nudged each other. I couldn’t believe what I began to hear coming from their mouths next.
“I lay bets that Jet’s about to get his ass kicked once cackled. “Who’s willing to bet me a hundred?”
One of his mates quickly put up his hand. “Bring it on. It’s been ages since Jet’s been bested. Fsay you’re putting the cart before the horse” he smirked. “The other guy’s just been lucky so far, Alpha or not. You can’t beat experience” he added, thrusting out his chest and daring the other rogues to argue with him
The two men on the ground scrambled to their feet. I glanced at Xavier in dismay. Now he was also spitting blood, his own eye blackened, and bruises,on his arms and legs, jet was also in bad shape, but at this rate neither was looking like they were going to come out as the victor
“Get him Jet, I got a hundred bucks that says you win” shouted the rogue who had bet against his mate.
The other rogue shrugged looking at ease and unconcerned. Xavier cracked his knuckles while Jet glanced at him warily.
“You’re stronger than most of the men I’ve faced with Wolfsbane his tone was filled with admiration. “It’s almost a pity that I’m going to have to kill you“.
“You could always just let us go” Xavier growled, “instead of continuing to risk your life” he suggested. The rogues all flung their heads back and laughed.
Jet laughed “Aren’t you cocky? I guess being an Alpha, you’re used to that kind of thing. But I’ve never been the one to admit defeat and I’m not about to start now” he said with a shake of his head, eyeing Xavier pityingly.
“Too bad” Xavier snarled “don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
The other rogues chuckled and winked at each other. Jet winked back at them and then proceeded to propel himself Torward, throwing punch after punch, so quickly that it was like blur. Xavier moved his head deftly to the side and then managed to grab Jet’s hand in mid–air, throwing his head forward and headbutting the rogue, causing him to give a howl as Xavier effectively broke his nose. I heard the loud crack and couldn’t help but wince, Jet grabbed at his nose, his eyes watering as he stumbled backward, no longer looking amused.
“He broke my fucking nose” he howled in pain.
The others roared with laughter. “I thought you said you had this Jet one teased
Jet glowered at him. “I do” he snapped.
I grimaced as fet pushed his nose back into position looking determined. He threw another punch and Xavier deftly dodged, throwing a right hook at Jet’s face and then kneeing him hard in the groin, before kicking him right across the face. Jet went down howling some more.
“Shit, I think this kid’s going to win. Look at the state of him” The one who had bet against Jet sounded pleased by this, while his comrade looked disgruntled.

“Get up” Xavier’s voice is icy as Jet begins to stumble to his feet. Are you finished now or are we continuing this fight to the death?” he asked even as I felt the hand gripping my hair slightly relax as the rogue holding me became more interested in
the fight than in restraining me.
