Regan POV
“We have to go” My voice is slightly hitched and my panic is evident.
We have just met a descendant of the moon goddess. A real andiruly miraculous species that is so unique only a few exist in the world. I knew that her gift of foresight was not to be taken lightly Everything she has said will come true. It’s just a matter of believing her and I believe. Xavier looks at me, seeing the fear on my face “Regan what’s wrong?” he asked, even as he began to grab our bags and hoist them over his shondder
As usual, he won’t let me carry one. I don’t bother to argue. I juvant to get going immediately.
“You heard her, there’s something dangerous mut there” my voice is shrill. “Our aura is dark. We have to go back to the pack Nander is in danger” I blurted out and saw the fierce expression on my mate’s face.
He would do anything for his brother. It was imperative that we got back to the pack and caved his father as well.
Now he was taking me seriously. He nodded and we began to leave the cave Thankfully the rain had come and gone, but the water droplets from the leaves of trees that dangled above us continued to fall on us as we walked beneath them.
“Whatever the thing that is awaiting us. I’ll take care of it” Xavier boasted, looking unconcerned. “You don’t have to worry about it Regan,” he said with a sidelong glance at me.
How could he be so calm? Didn’t he understand the urgency of the situation? Was he ignoring what Mala had said?
“It’s not that simple Xavier. We don’t know what it is. It could be anything” I whispered, my eyes frantically scanning the surrounding forest for signs of danger.
“You’re letting your fear get the better of you Xavier warned, still unfazed.
“No, I’m being cautious” I shot back defiantly.
Why was he being so nonchalant about it all? Was he really that arrogant that he thought he could defeat anything that gor in our way? Xavier wasn’t infallible or invincible. Even he was vulnerable to becoming injured or seriously hurt. I felt like shaking him until he saw sense. I gritted my teeth in frustration, wishing he would be more serious
ahead. “Calm down Regan, I can see the anxiety written all over your face, Xavier said softly, but I noticed that he too, was now scanning our surroundings and continuing to sniff the air for signs of anything that might be following or up
Finally, he was starting to help me. I breathed a sigh of relief, even as I looked up at him in concern. “Aren’t you worried about Xander?” I asked, “Because I am. Who knows what he’s going through right now or what he’s thinking” I added.
“Of course, I’m concerned about Xander, but I also know my brother and he can deal until we get back. Xander is level- headed and calm, unlike me” he said as I stared at him “he’s definitely capable of dealing with this until we make it back.”
“I doubt he saw himself dealing with an unplanned pregnancy” hissed
In fact, I could almost guarantee that Xander hadn’t considered that as being an option.
He sighed. “Well, that’s something nobody could have anticipated he allowed.
I opened my mouth and then paused, ulting my head. Was it mymagination or had I heard leaves crunching in the distance? As though somebody had accidentally trodden on one Xavier heard the sound as well because his eyes narrowed and he deliberately put the bags down, pushing me behind him

“Don’t move” he instructed in a low tone.

I nodded. Watching as Xavier’s body began to tense. Both of us looked expectantly in the direction the sound had come from “You might as well show yourself” Xavier shouted loudly We know that you are there now. We heard you”
Silence. Then the sound of footsteps approaching. Slow, heavy huds. I swallowed hard. Was it another animal? A wild bear? A rogue? My eyes widened as a figure slowly came out of the shadows, eyeing us with a malicious grin on his face, No, it couldn’t be and yet the proof was undeniably in front of me, and I could see him with my own eyes. Xavier sucked in
breath, taken aback.
“I told you that I had seen him” My voice shook as I faced off against my father.

I hadn’t been a ghost or a figment of my imagination after all.
He looked at us, a red tinge in his eyes. He was rogue after all but the smile on his face, was pure viciousness as he raked his gaze over us, licking his lips slowly.
“I’ve been following you” he purred, as I stood there my heart beating wildly in my chest, even as Xavier continued to stand there calmly “hoping that you would be stupid enough to try and come back towards your pack.”
“What business is it of yours” Xavier growled, straightening his shoulders “I’ve already beaten you in a fight remember” he said icily, “are you looking for another one?” he scowled.
“Ah, Alpha Xavier my father’s voice was filled with sarcasm “how like you to be so brash and bold. You might have won the first fight against me, but I’ve been out here surviving and learning to adjust to being a rogue. Do you think you can still beat me?” he asked, narrowing his eyes.
“Just because you’ve become a rogue doesn’t mean you’ve miraculously gained some sort of superpower or more strength” Xavier’s voice is incredulous. “Fighting with me will only ensure your death” he added.
“Ah, but I’ve been so clever” my father sighed. “Who do you think gave Heather the idea to feed that stupid man that herb that makes him susceptible to suggestion? Who do you think has helped Isabelle to get pregnant with Xander’s child? The witches are easy to persuade so long as you are happy to pay the price” he smirked.
I stared at my father, feeling as though something was off with him. It wasn’t the way he moved or the way he spoke. His voice was the same as back then. It was more a feeling, a sense of wrongness..
“You paid the price for them” I whispered, feeling sickened. “You paid the witches
It all made sense.
“I needed to get revenge. Killing you all would have been too easy. This way the Alpha family is destroyed. Isabelle’s child will become the new Alpha. Heather will remain in charge of the pack while your father slowly dies as she feeds him more and more of the herb. The twins he eyed Xavier with a grin “will be executed as an example for those who dare to try and disobey the new leaders.”
“What is the point?” I blurted out.
He looks at me with glee. “Once the old Alpha is dead, who do you think will take charge along with Heather and Isabelle? Why do you think we are slowly killing Alpha Jacksoh? If we murdered him straight away there would be resistance but slowly? People will believe it has to do with poor health and nobody will question Isabelle when she provides that paternity test that proves Xander is the father of her child. The child will have a legal right to become the heir when it’s older.
“All that’s left is to kill the two of you. You ruined my plans seeking to find a cure for Alpha Jackson” he growled “I thought you would be too stupid, but then Heather was not supposed to keep him locked up but rather on display, looking like he was ill. She’s always been stupid” he sighed and shook his head never mind though. We can still execute Xander in front of the pack.”
What was the price you paid” my voice trembles. “What price did you pay the witches? What sacrifice did you make in

order for them to help you so much?” I asked.
The sacrifice must have been tremendous. I couldn’t see the witches asking for something small in return.

He laughs. It’s bloodcurdling and I wince from the car piercing und. Xavier tenses. “I gave them something that I had no use for anymore,” he said throwing his hands up and smirking gave them my soul and they gave me what I needed and much, much more.”
He thrust his hand forward, a fireball erupting from his hand and hitting the tree next to us as Xavier and I stared at him in shock. Not only had the witches passed on knowledge and herbs but it looked as though they had granted my father with a power of his own as well. His soul must have been worth a lot and we, we were in a lot of trouble.
