ince Alex was framed by Katie, we hadn’t had a moment of genuine peace. We were both exhausted.
I stopped, taking a deep breath, looking at the man hidden in the darkness in front of me “Lucian, we’re getting a divorce.”

He remained silent, his gaze unreadable. I didn’t understand. If he didn’t love me, why cling to a marriage that was slowly poisoning us both? With me gone, Katie would have her chance. What was he clinging to?
He said nothing. Then, abruptly, he turned and walked away, leaving me standing there in
stunned silence.
I followed him, not mentioning that topic again.
The next day, I packed, left the key and the divorce papers. I moved into Alex’s apartment.
When I arrived, Alex was not there.
He was at Lucian’s office.
Katie was trembling, hiding behind Lucian.
Alex’s rage was unleashed, raw and unfiltered. He has discovered the truth, the depth of Katie’s cruelty, and Lucian’s complicity.
He had thought that Lucian would be able to protect his sister.
He lunged at Lucian, the two men grappling on the floor. Lucian didn’t fight back. “Lucian, you promised you’d protect Millie! You and that woman tortured her for three years!” Lucian lay on the floor, battered and bruised, staring at the ceiling.
He was a monster.
And in that moment, the realization seemed to dawn on him – the vastness of the chasm that separated he and Millie. They have become so unfamiliar that they were relatively silent.
But he still loved Millie.. And now, he was losing her.
He regretted, and he didn’t want to divorce.
