Gina sauntered over, a smug grin on her face. “If you really want to stick around, maybe grovel at Antonio’s feet, say you’re sorry, and hope he’ll take you back.
“Come on. We’re not kids anymore. Playing the victim? That’s just sad.”
I curled my lip, too tired to argue with them.
I’d come to gather my brother’s things, not to tangle with these idiots.
Seeing I wasn’t biting, Antonio snorted, “Try whatever you want, but you’re out of here today!”
I’d made my point, and it didn’t matter if he bought it or not.
Without another word, he dialed his assistant.
“From now on, Grace and her brother are banned from my property, especially her sightless brother.”
There was a beat of silence, and then the assistant’s voice came through. “Mr. Kaufman, Andy Sloan had an accident. He fell off the building and didn’t make it.”
“What? That’s insane.” Antonio gripped his phone, his voice rising in shock.

“Did Grace twist your arm to say this? Lie for her again, and you’re out on your ear.”
He swung back to me, eyes narrowed.
“Grace, I didn’t realize you were so sly. You’ve really got my assistant under your control.”
I couldn’t help but find him laughable, a real joker in the worst
way.
Being the company boss, he was dumb and arrogant.
Antonio shot me with a mocking smile. “My assistant backing you up doesn’t mean squat. Just you wait. The moment I bust your lies wide open, we’ll see if you’ve got the nerve to stick around.”
He dialed the maid he’d paid to keep an eye on my brother, hoping for a different story.
But no such luck. The response was a repeat.
He wasn’t about to call it quits, so he reached out to others who knew my brother well.
Every person he talked to gave him the gut–punching news. My brother had taken a fatal plunge off the rooftop.
“Mr. Kaufman, Andy’s situation was really tragic. He was blind, and the rooftop was such a dangerous place. Once he tumbled, there was no moment to react. He was just… gone in an instant.
“Grace had to handle the funeral by herself. She didn’t even get to say goodbye to Andy. They’ve been each other’s rock for so long, and now she’s left all alone. Her only family has been

Faced with the truth he didn’t want to hear, Antonio chucked his phone to the floor in a huff.
Then, one of his pals spotted something. It was a piece of paper that had dropped from my pocket during the beatdown.
The guy picked it up, and one look had him gasping.
Antonio realized what it was and grabbed it abruptly.
It was only when he saw my brother’s name on that death certificate that he really lost it.
The paper was shaking in his hand as he stared at me, unable to compute. “Grace, how could this be? You’ve got to be pulling my leg. This has to be some sort of scam you cooked up, right?”
Emotion shattered him right then and there, and tears streamed down his face.
“I wish more than anything that I’d made this up,” I said.
His hands shook so much that the paper slipped from his grasp and fell to the ground once more
A cry of anguish escaped Antonio as he covered his face and wept.

The onlookers turned pale at the sight.
These young folks, always so full of themselves, never thought much of anyone else.

No matter how wild they got, they’d never actually caused someone’s death.
Now, they were in a panic.
“Grace, your brother’s death has nothing to do with us. It was just an accident.”
“Yeah, it was just bad luck on his part. It’s not our fault. Don’t go trying to pin this on us.”
They were passing the buck, spouting nonsense.
I was getting annoyed with their bickering and looked at them coldly. “Shut up! Isn’t it chaotic enough already?”
Then, I cautiously looked at Antonio without any trace of fear in my eyes.
“Grace, I was wrong, but I swear I didn’t mean it. If I’d known, I never would have done it,” said Antonio.
A simple “didn’t mean it” wasn’t going to undo the harm they’d caused my brother, was it?
Tears in my eyes, I looked at Antonio.
I said with disappointment, “I thought you were just immature, but now I see you have no heart at all. If you had any decency, you wouldn’t have let them toy with my brother’s life.
“Even if he wasn’t my brother, he was still a human being, deserving of respect and his rights. My brother was blind, but have you forgotten the reason for that?”
