Chapter 13
Evelynne:
The drive from Lakeville to Somerville took me over two hours by car. By the time I landed in my destination, the car came to a screeching halt and I stepped out.
The bright sun rays of a new day smiled at me and I internally hoped my day would be as bright and smiley as that. I glanced down at my phone to check what the time was and realized it was already ten minutes after 8.
The time ticked fast and the reason I was already this late was due to the fact that Rhysand wasn’t considerate enough to give me the direction to this place and it skipped my mind to ask.
I stared long at the tall building in front of me before finally making an attempt to step into the tall building.
I could only imagine the generational wealth behind this. All I’ve ever come across were rumours about the Thorne family’s big name in a lot of industries, and also, about their pack territory which spanned more than 10 cities, compared to most packs out there with just five cities to their territory.
My phone vibrated in my hand and without checking the caller’s ID, I pressed accept and brought it to my ear.
“Evie, have you arrived?” Elli’s voice sounded from the other end.
“Yes,” I responded before making my way into the entrance of the skyscraper. Soon as I entered, my gaze spotted the receptionist stand.
Elli released a deep breath, “Why won’t you just tell me what you went to Somerville for? And you know, I could have taken you there with my car rather than have you flag a taxi.”
“I know, Elli. But I’m fine, and I just came here to visit a friend. I’ll be back by the end of the day, or tomorrow.” Elli had insisted on bringing me over here himself, but the idea about him knowing my reason for coming here, didn’t sit well with
me,
“You don’t have any friends, Evie, especially not at Somerville. Stop lying to me,” He said from the other end.
“I do” Actually, I don’t and he knew.
“Alright, if you say so. Just stay safe, and call me when you need anything.”
“Okay, How’s mom?” Mom and I haven’t spoken to each other ever since the incident from yesterday, she didn’t want to see me. To be honest, it was mutual,
“She’s fine. Doc said it should be alright to take her home today.” Elli explained.
We went on and I almost forgot I was presently standing in the middle of a large crowd of people, trooping in and out of the entrance door, neatly dressed in mostly black and white- a huge contrast to my brown top and pants.
“Okay then, goodbye.” Elli finally said after a long five minutes call.
“I’ll talk to you later,”
“Alright.”
My eyes drank in the environment and I noticed the curious glances spared towards my direction.

Chapter 13
“Good day? The receptionist was a young lady dad in a white top and black sering skin, her hair was parked to a neatly cleaned bun, and as she stared up, the first thing 1 noted where her sharp box warm brown eyes.
“Good Day to you too, Mam, Welcome to Thome Enterprise. How may I help your doe had a Britain accent and she spoke in an excellently affluent manner.
Clearing my throat, I went straight to the point, I’m here to see Mr. Thor–1 was about to go use his surname but decided not to, “I mean, the CRO
She threw me a frown- the first flip in her expression, “Do you have an appointment with him? She wked, and it was at that point it dawned on me that I didn’t really have an appointment with him.
Nothing was fixed and he just agreed to meet me.
“No, I don’t
“Then you can’t see him. The CEO is presently out for a meeting and wouldn’t be back till the next two hours.”
What?! two hours?
“Out for a meeting my brows squeezed into a frown. I told him I’ll be here by eight, so how come he was out for a meeting already
“Yes,” she nodded, “you might need to wait till he gets back. That is, if you have an arranged appointment with him already. If you don’t, then there’s no way I can help you”
“I’ll wait for him,” I said to her and the nodded.
“You can have a seat there? With a nod, I made my way towards the empty seat and sat down in one, before contemplating on whether to call Rhysand.
But since the receptionist already said he was out for a meeting, then maybe I should wait a little. My phone vibrated in my purse and I brought it out, my expression went down the drain when I noticed it was Gabriella calling
The audacity.
Desmond has been calling me nonstop since yesterday, and I really wasn’t interested in knowing why, so every single time he called, I declined.
And now, Gabriella?
Deciding it wasn’t time to get my mood spoiled by these two, I swiped decline before slipping the phone back into my bag.
My eyes darted towards the entrance when a young man walked in with a big smile plastered on his face as he waved towards the receptionist and strode in her direction.
“You shouldn’t wear such a serious face always, Princess. Especially not this morning.” He said smoothly as he leaned in on the reception desk.
“Good day to you too, Mr Rune,” she greeted and spared him a polite smile before glancing back down to her work. “Don’t give me that,” the young man gestured and placed a hand to his chest as if in pain, “It hurts coming from you.”
–
Curiosity got the best of me and I couldn’t help but stare at them and for the second time today, I noticed a flip in the receptionist’s expression.

She smiled. And then pressed her lips into a thin line before glancing up at the man before her. “The CEO isn’t in his office. He’s out for a meeting”
“Yeah, I know, I came for you, the young man tilted his head to her.
“Say that again and I might get deceived that you like me,” she glanced back down to her the laptop, continuing her work.
“But I do,” he said and she shook her head.
“Bet that’s what you whisper to all the ladies that come your way. You are so good with words, Mr Rune. Could have deceived me with those smooth words and handsome face.” She flipped some files in her front and shook her head, not staring up anymore, but the slight pink creeping up her neck didn’t go unnoticed by me.
“You think I have a handsome face?” Out of all she had said, that’s what he was more concerned about?
1 really didn’t want it to seem like I was listening in on their conversation, but it wasn’t my fault considering the reception scat was close to them.
I could barely see what the man looked like, cause he had his side to me but based on how tall he stood, he seemed to be around 6 feet 2 inches. His short, blonde hair was styled perfectly and I felt like running my hands through his hair to scatter how neat it looked.
He wore a short sleeved top which was tucked into his black ironed trousers.
My eyes flicked to the outline of tattoos in his hand before I slowly glanced back to his face.
It was then I realized I had stared too much as a pair of pale green eyes stared deep at me.
Gracious. He was as handsome as the receptionist said.
He had a strong jawline with a small nose and a smile on his face as he tilted his head to me. His eyes flicked with a wave of familiarity like he had seen me before and the longer I stared, the deeper he stared back.
Realization dawned on his expression, leaving me wondering why cause I was certain I had never met him before.
“I got something on my face?” he asked, reminding me that I had indeed stared too much.
Clearing my throat, I shook my head and turned to look away from him, choosing to ignore his gaze, but then he walked over to the reception chair and sat beside me.
“Are you here for a job offer pretty lady?” The question seemed to have been a method to draw my attention back to him, and it worked.
“No,” I muttered with a shake of my head.
“Oh.” He nodded.
His pale green eyes never stared away from me for a moment, like he was trying to read through me, and it felt off considering he had a small smile dancing across his lips as if he was happy to see me. But I doubt so, cause I’ve never seen
this man before.
“Then you are here for?” he trailed.
Hesitation held me back for a moment, “I’m here to see Mr. Thor- The CEO.” Soon as those words were out of my lips the glee in his eyes seemed to brighten.

“I don’t.” My response was short and it should have been enough to make him realize I didn’t want to converse with him, especially since the receptionist was sparing us glances.
“Should I place a call to him so he can come over?” My eyes turned to him and I unintentionally stared at him from head downward before giving him an ‘are you sure you know him?‘ stare.
He chuckled, not looking away from me for once. And as if reading my mind, he responded, “I do.”
“No, thank you. I’ll wait.” I gave him a small smile, not convinced that he would be able to get who I was here for, besides I could wait.
Picking my phone from my bag to check the time, a groan escaped from my lips.
An hour and thirty minutes left.
He finally stopped talking and turned his attention to his phone, leaving me with the silence I needed to think through what I’ll say to Rhysand, enough to convince him to help me.
We sat in silence for a while, before he stood up from the chair and slipped his phone into his pocket, “By the way, the name’s Xavier with an X.” I stared for a long time before shaking my hand with his.
“I’m Evelynne.”
“Nice name.”
“Thank you.” I removed my hand from his.
“Would have loved to sit back with you, but I have a pressing issue on my neck,” with that, he gave me a small nod, and turned away.
Before he left, he stopped by the receptionist desk, “See you later, princess.“He said and she didn’t say anything. He chuckled softly, “Keep playing hard to get, and I’ll just keep pushing on.”
She rolled her eyes, and then he smiled before leaving through the exit.
Barely ten minutes after he stepped out, the door opened.
I glanced towards the entrance, and my eyes fell on the brooding tall man that just stepped in, clad in complete black.
