Chapter 14
Rhysand:
Xavi: Guess what?
I furrowed my brows as I stared at the text Xavier sent less than a minute ago.

It was very out of character for me to check my phone when I’m in a meeting, but when my phone dinged in my pocket, I had expected it to be from Evelynne–which was the reason I checked it in the first place, but then it was from Xavier.
Rhys: WHAT? I’M IN A MEETING.
Placing my phone aside on the table, I looked back up at the company executives who had called for a last minute meeting.
They went on about one of the branch company’s development, and I listened as the middle aged man pointed out a few important things.
Xavi: You really need to stop using capital letters everytime you are texting.
Xavi: One might think you are shouting at them.
Xavi: Or angry even.
Rhys: I AM ANGRY RIGHT NOW. AND BESIDES, YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT BORE ME WITH TEXTS.
Xavi: Such a sad life you’ve got there.
Not a sad life considering I didn’t like the idea of communicating by chat.
Rhys: I’M IN A MEETING. SO GO STRAIGHT TO THE POINT OR GET READY TO HAVE YOUR MESSAGE ON DELIVERED.
Xavi: Take a chill pill.
Xavi: So, guess what?
Rhys: XAVIER.
Xavi: Alright alright. I’m sitting right beside a pretty lady right now.
Rhys: HOW’S THAT SUPPOSED TO BE MY CONCERN?
Xavi: Guess who.
Rhys: …
Xavi: Evelynne.
My heart doubled its beat as my eyes read through the last message.
Xavi: Jesus, she has the cutest shade of emerald eyes I’ve ever seen.
Xavi: She’s so polite.

ກ
Rhys: YOU TRAVELLED TO LAKEVILLE?
I ignored his rants.
Xavi: No, she’s at the receptionist. In your company. Waiting for you.
Rhys: ONE OF YOUR TRICKS?
Xavi: tbh no.
Rhys: ???
Xavi: …
He dropped an emoji covering its face in disappointment.
Xavi: it means, To be honest.
Xavi: You text like an old man, and it bores me.
Xavi: You lucky I’m patient.
Xavier went on ranting on and on and I had to mute his chat to 1 hour, before finally glancing up.
My eyes landed on my assistant who stood by the door, and I gestured for him to come over.
“Take it from here,” He nodded and with that, I stood up from the chair, excusing myself before walking out.
The drive from the meeting house to the main company was less than five minutes.

As I entered the building, my eyes scanned the reception area, and my gaze landed on her. Her emerald eyes sparkled as she glanced up to me.
I felt a sudden surge of excitement and I shook my head to wave it off.
She stood up from the chair and walked over to me.
“You were late,” I pointed out, reminding her that she was meant to be here by eight prompt and maybe she would have met me in the office.
“I told you I’ll be here by eight.”
“You were late by almost ten minutes.” She came to a stop in my front and my eyes subconsciously lowered down, unintentionally lingering low before looking up back to her face.
She stared at me with a blank expression, “Just ten minutes.”
“My time is important to me.” I told her and the subtle roll in her eyes didn’t go unnoticed by me.
“I apologize for being late by ten minutes.” her lips flattened and she scrunched her nose, “Now can we go ahead with the reason I’m here?”
Ignoring the greetings from the employees, along with the curious stares directed at her, I muttered, “Follow me,” before walking away and heading straight to the elevator.
By the time we got to my office, she stepped in and I closed the door behind me when I entered. She walked into the space

with so much confidence, like she had been here before.
My eyes subconsciously lowered down, and I had to mentally scold myself to not stare down no matter what–caune taking note of how neatly dressed she was, would only deepen my anguish.
This was becoming infuriating.
My eyes slid down a little and I noticed she was dressed in an elegant brown blouse and brown pants, her outfit accentuated her curves in all the right places.
“Take a seat, and tell me what you have to offer for my help,” I said, sounding professional despite my inner turmoil.
She glanced around the office, taking in the sleek decor and the stunning view of the city skyline outside the windows. Her attention drifted back to me when she heard the sound of me clearing my throat, her cheeks flushed slightly as she sat down in the chair opposite me.
She mumbled something inaudible.
As she sat down, I couldn’t help but take in her appearance.
Evelynne was even more stunning up close, with her emerald eyes sparkling. Her brown hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall, and her skin had a radiant glow to it.
I felt a pang of attraction, but quickly pushed it aside, reminding myself that I was here to discuss business, not indulge in my personal desires.
Her lips pressed into a thin line, “I’ll help you with information about the rogue wolves that have been attacking your pack’s borders.”
“And?” I trailed, expecting her to add something else, and getting ready to decline it no matter what–only because I had something else in mind that she would be useful for.
She cleared her throat, as if hesitating with her next words, “Rumors have it that you are still single.” Her emerald eyes stared
at me.
“What’s your point?” keeping a straight face, I asked.
“Rumors have it again that you need a partner.”
My brows squinted to a frown, “Go straight to the point.”
“Be patient, I’m heading there,” she threw a frown at me–which I found amusing.
Her next words rested on the tip of her tongue and she hesitated for close to a minute before continuing, “Rumors have it that you might be gay. Although this are of course just rumors, I believe there was a source behind them,” soon as she said that, my expression might have taken a sharp dive, cause she couldn’t stare at my eyes anymore, and decided to stare at my forehead instead.
“My second offer roots from there. You seem to need a partner, Mr. Thorne. I’ll be your partner for the next two years—but just for public eyes. Cause it came to my understanding that people in your position are easily withdrawn if seen associating with a man,” she trailed, before adding, “Romantically.”
“Partner for two years? by partner you mean…”
“Not your wife, not your girlfriend either, Just a woman to keep by your side for the next two years- for public face only.”
