Soon as those words were out of my lips, I took a deep breath, counting my luck and hoping he accept. His eyes kept me in place and his poker expression didn’t give away any hint of whether he might accept or not.
I really hope he does.
We stayed in silence for a while, and I was already getting ready to receive a rejection from him, because at the end of the day–he was friends with Desmond.
After he didn’t respond for another three minutes, I decided that it was time to leave, cause he didn’t seem like he would help me.
Someone that would help wouldn’t take this much time just to contemplate.
“It seems like you need time to think about it,” I started to get up from the chair, “I’ll give you enough time and I hope you get to a conclusion soon on whether to accept or straight up reject it.” Picking my bag from the floor and dusting my trouser, I stood straight.
“What would you do if I reject your offer and this whole deal?” he asked, giving me a skeptical look, as if my response would determine his interest.
Clearing my throat and without the need to think much about my response, I answered, “I’ll look for someone else to take my offer to,” he rose a brow at me, “someone worthy and powerful enough.”
There was a shift in his expression at the mention of looking for someone else.
“So I’m just one of your many options?” actually, you are my only option at this point, I wanted to say to him, but decided
not to.
“Yes, there are many other prospects.” I waved my hands.
“Like?” he straightened.
“Huh?”
“Give me their names,” he stared me dead in the eyes, with a hint of menace.
“What do you need their names for?” I asked suspiciously.
“I just need them,” he paused, staring down for the slightest moment, before glancing back up at me, “just need them.” He added again, and a flicker of doubt told me he didn’t just ‘need‘ the names.
“No,” my response slipped out of my lips ever so smoothly, because in all honesty, I haven’t sat down to think of other options if he disagreed.
His brows tightened into a frown, and before he could say anything, I interjected, “So, is that a no?” I trailed, “You won’t help me, would you?”
His brows pulled together and I noticed the slightest hesitation, he pondered longer, staring at me deeply–and intensely- before finally muttering words that I could barely get.
“Is that a no?” I asked again.

He glanced at me, “Yes,” The brief word confused me more. Was it yes as in accepting or was it yes to my last question?

“Yes for?” if he wouldn’t give me a full sentence, there was no way I would understand, and something told me that he was a man of very few words.
“Yes, I accept,” he grinded his teeth, forcing the words out.
My lips pulled into a big smile, and a huge wave of relief engulfed me for a reason I do not know. I was happy, just happy.
The thought that this might not work in my favour didn’t bother me at that point.
I was just relieved–and also determined- that I had someone that would help me bring Desmond down.
“Thank you,” I smiled at him, and his gaze lingered on my lips, before he glanced back to my eyes.
“Don’t thank me. I’m benefitting from this also.”
“Oh yeah, right.” I nodded in understanding, turning my gaze out the window.
“There shall be rules.” He suddenly said and I glanced back at him, my brows squeezed into a frown.
“Rules?”
“Yes,”
“What kind of rules?” I asked and he caught my eyes once again, in a fiery gaze.
“My rules,” he answered, pulling his swivel chair closer to the table and leaning his hands on the table, “We’ll work with my rules.”
“And what are these rules?” I couldn’t help but ask.
He picked a pen from the table and flipped it in his fingers ever so smoothly that my eyes caught the action, “Other than public appearances, you’ll be my partner in front of my family also.”
“By family you mean a large number of people closely related to you?” I asked to be certain of where he was heading to. I’ve never heard anything about this man’s family, except that he has a grandfather–but that was all.
“No. Just one important person,” he corrected and I nodded.
“Who?” curiosity got the best of me and I inquired to be sure.
“My grandfather.”
“Okay then. That shouldn’t be difficult.”
He quirked a brow at me, and gave me a small smile, “You can’t tell till you meet him.”
“Well, rumors have it that the Old Man of Thorne household is very umm…” I pondered on the best word to use in describing what I read about his very important family member, “Formidable and jovial.”
“Formidable he is, but jovial, he isn’t. And you really need to stop believing in rumors, Ms. Milton or else you might get yourself into trouble soon,” he relaxed on his chair, taking a brief glance at the opened laptop on his table.
“But all the rumors I’ve said so far, are true, aren’t they?” The aim of my question was simple, and in all honesty, I was just trying to get answers out of him on whether he liked men or not.

“Fourth, you will not speak about this arrangement to anyone, under any circumstances” He flipped the pen again.
“Fifth, you will not leave me or terminate our arrangement without my explicit permission, he looked up from his laptop finally and his eyes landed on mine.
“Your rules and requests are very absurd, especially considering it felt like I was being tied down to him.
He simply shrugged, eyes blazing with interest, “Do you agree to them?”
My mind listed off the pros and cons, along with what I’ll achieve from all this. And although I was heavily displeased, my lips quirked and a word of acceptance escaped.
“Deal”
