Chapter 2
Evelynne
I heard the footsteps of someone from behind me along with a thick voice laced with accent that muttered words in shock. but i were too blinded by tears and the scene in front of me to take note of who it was.
“Desmond, I finally call out, choosing to confront them rather than run away and shut the door after me like before.
The duo in front of me were fast to break away from their trance of pleasure.
Desmond’s immediate action was to push Gabriella away from him, grab his trousers and wear them, “Why would you do this to me? From the corners of your bedroom and now to the living room of our matrimonial home, do you bear that much disrespect to me and this marriage?” my voice breaks out,
“Evelynne, he finally calls out. Gabriella wore her skimpy dress on time, and compared to the expression I had expected to see in her face, she seemed glad- or rather, pleased with no regrets.
“Gabriella, what were you thinking?” I asked, my voice laced with a mix of hurt and confusion. “Was it really worth betraying me like this?”
The pull from the mate bond made everything hurt the more. Wasn’t he feeling it? Am I the only one affected?
“Evelynne I’m so sorry this happened. It never should have, it was a mistake, I swear to you. I don’t know how…” Desmond stammered like a stupid man that he is, he took a step further close to me, his expression was twisted into a deep displeasure of regret.
“You had the option of rejecting me from the night you figured I was your mate, why didn’t you? Why did you choose to have me suffer under you, why?” the tears slipping out of my eyes were uncontrollable at this moment.
My body trembled from the flow of emotions running through me, I took a deep gasp and shut my eyes to hold back the
tears.
The pregnancy results and my purse slipped from my hands, scattering their contents across the floor. My pills rolled away and I staggered, completely weak all over.
The pain I had been bottling for the past years could no longer be kept at bay. With a desperate cry, I slammed my hands against his chest, pleading for answers.
If only he could explain why he betrayed me, perhaps the constant ache from the mate mark would subside, and the anguish inside me would case.
His brows remained squeezed into a frown. Regret. Remorse. And every other pathetic expression was on his face. When he spoke out, a wave of disgust and irritation washed over me.
“It was a mistake. I don’t know how this happened, believe me, Evelynne. I would never cheat on you.” He kept on saying same thing and not offering an explanation.
The lies spilled from his lips, and I couldn’t contain the fury burning within me. Without hesitation, my palms cracked against his cheek, the slap echoing through the room like a declaration of my pain.
I took a step back when Desmond glanced up at me with a hardened glare. He looked feral. So I took a step back again, but before I could create more distance, he lunged at me with a swift punch, his fist hustling towards my face with speed and restrained anger.

I rose my hands to shield my face, but the force of his blow sent me stumbling backward, my mind reeling in shock and fear as his fist landed straight to my cheek.
My lips quivered as I looked up at him in shock, a glint of regret flashed across his eyes and he stared down at his hand. Immediately stepping closer to apologize, “Evelynne… th–that was a mis…”
A faint taste of metal filled my tongue, I stared up at him in fright but just before I could further apprehend what was going on, another fist was sent flying.
But this time it wasn’t directed at me, but it came from someone behind me and it landed on Desmond with immense force that pushed him back.
The thick voice cursed, “What the hell is wrong with you?” as he landed punches on Desmond’s face, the sound of flesh hitting flesh echoed through the room, he squeezed Desmond’s collar tightly.
At first I was in shock and fear wondering who it was, cause no one in this pack had the audacity to raise a voice at the Alpha, talk more of charge at him, but then my shock turned into surprise when I realized it was Desmond’s best friend. And not just anyone, but an Alpha from a neighbouring pack.
Desmond was not given a chance to say anything as another punch landed on his face, leading him to spitting out blood.
“You not only cheated on your wife but you had the audacity to punch her! YOU FUCKING PUNCHED HER! Are you that numb of your werewolf senses to not realize she’s pregnant?!” Another punch. Again. Again. And for the seventh time.
I broke out from my trance when he mentioned my pregnancy which I hadn’t talked about to anyone but the doctor. Desmond’s pupils dilated and his sharp eyes darted to where I stood.
“Pregnant?” he stammered and his gaze subtly went down to my stomach, but just before he could say anything, he recieved another punch on the face, three times consecutively.
“Stop!” I cried out when a sharp pain coursed through my stomach. I glanced up and couldn’t find Gabriella anywhere.
Did she run away? I thought, my mind raced with confusion and fear. But before I could ponder further, I suddenly felt a grip from behind me, like a vice clamping down on my arms.
I tried to struggle, but the grip on me was too strong
Gabriella’s menacing voice whispered in my ear. “Don’t move, Evelynne,” as she gripped my arms like a vice, her cold, metallic edge pressing against my neck
“I’ve know about your pregnancy for weeks, but I didn’t think you’ll drop the news this way. Now that you’ve figured out about our affair, what’s your next move, Evelynne?” Gabriella’s laughter was cold, and it sent a chill down my spine. It was at this moment that the two men finally noticed.
“Evelynne!” Alpha Rhysand yelled and made a move closer, but Gabriella was quick to press the edge of her knife to my neck, tearing my skin.
“I swear to God if any of you two come closer, I’ll kill her.”
I tried to speak, but my voice was caught in my throat. The dagger’s edge dug deeper, and warm blood dripped down, the metallic scent filled my nostrils.
Desmond’s eyes widened in horror as he realized what was happening
“Evelynne” he shouted, lunging forward, but the grip on me only tightened

Desmond’s face contorted in a mixture of rage and fear as he took a step back, his eyes fixed on the dagger at my neck “Gabriella, what are you doing?” he growled, his voice low and deadly.
“Gabriella, p–please drop your dagger.” My tone was low and pleading. “Why are you doing this? I asked again, foding a sharp pang in my chest because this was someone I’ve spent a whole five years with
I expected more from her. I thought we were friends.
“The answers you seek are with your mother, but I’m sure you won’t like what you hear Gabriella spat out. My mome what brought her into this, I wanted to ask further.
“Gabriella, drop that knife!” Desmond roared, a glint crossed his eyes, but rather than dropping the knife, Gabriella dug n deeper than before.
“Shut the fuck up!” her tone was tinged with a hint of desperation and a deep seated pain.
“So? your mate is pregnant then you’ll leave me? I’ll turn to the laughing stock of the pack and go back to square one the laughed bitterly.
Having a dagger to my throat restricted me from any slight movement.
“Her survival means my humiliation,” Her voice trembled, “You’ll abandon me for her and that… thing she’s carrying Buzffl eliminate them both, I’ll have your full attention. You’ll be mine alone.” She sounded jealous and hurt, different from the Gabriella I thought I knew.
“Let her go.” Rhysand said, his tone was firm, but laced with a hint of warning, his eyes seemed to be on every single movement Gabriella made as if waiting for a chance to attack.
He clenched his jaws in frustration and stared down at the knife to my neck before glancing up again.
Our eyes met for a brief moment, “This isn’t worth it. Drop that knife.”
My gaze caught a subtle yet unnoticed movement from Rhysand, but just before he could take a step, Gabriella had already. made her decision.
The grip on me relaxed slightly, I felt a surge of hope–But it was short–lived.
With a swift motion, she sliced the dagger to my throat, and I sensed its deadly kiss on my neck–followed by a sharp stab to my stomach.
The world around me crumbled from beneath me and with a thud, I fell heavily to the floor, my hands wrapped around my stomach, I felt a warm trickle of blood sliding down my skin. I could smell the coppery scent of my own blood.
My vision began to blur, and the sounds around me grew fainter. I was overwhelmed by a sea of pain and betrayal.
In ten seconds, Desmond lunged at Gabriella. In ten seconds, Rhysand rushed over to where I was, calling out my name and trying to keep me awake.
Ten seconds passed and I didn’t heal like a normal werewolf would do, my neck and stomach throbbed with a sharp, stabbing sensation, searing through me like fire and it made me realize that she didn’t use a normal dagger but a silver dagger laced with wolfsbane.
Alpha Rhysand reached me first, he knelt close to me with knitted brows, and a body quivering from worry.
“Evelynne,” his soft voice reached my ears. Firm hands wrapped around me, and in that moment my body jolted from the sudden spark that brought my heart back to life, shooting off my skin from the contact, while my body withered, and my

soul slowly gave up.
A spark that came along with the company of a warm sweet scent. A burst of energy pulsed through me, like a heartbeat that synchronized with his.
I stared at him with furrowed brows, searching his face for any signs to show that he felt the spark also–confusion marred his expression, and I was certain he felt it too.
“M…”
“Don’t.” I seethed.
He couldn’t bring himself to say it, neither could I bring myself to admit it.
Alpha Rhysand stared at me and I felt a thousands prickles in my heart. His gaze was soft, filled with tension, worry and fear. The moon goddess was once again playing a twisted game, making mockery of me- and nothing made sense. Finding a second chance mate in my last moments? ridiculous.
“Please don’t close your eyes,” his words felt like a gentle breeze at dawn. A helpless plead.
My gaze clouded with tears as I was watched him hopelessly try to put pressure on my injured stomach and neck. Failing to realize that I was halfway through death already.
“Evelynne!” Desmond yelled in agony, I can feel our bond snap into shreds and I’m sure he was feeling it too.
Till my death, I was never able to realize what reasons Gabriella held against me for ruining my life this way, nor did I ever find out why Desmond succumbed to her.
But one thing I was sure of was, she’ll face severe repercussions for killing her Luna and killing the Alpha’s heir.
As for Desmond, I hope he gets the worst which he deserves, and I also wish the pack I had given my life to, gets what they‘ deserve.
…but then, what about Rhysand?
The last thing I felt was the weight of my unborn child, a tiny life growing inside me, now threatened by the treachery of those I trusted. The thought filled me with sorrow.
My heartache and agony subsided.
A tear threatened to escape.
My body went numb, and everything went dark.
