Chapter 28
Evelynne:
I stared down at my phone, subconsciously biting my lips to the point of pain as a wave of rage fueled me.
Taste of iron burst into my tongue and I realized too late that I’ve bitten myself to the point of injury on my lips.
Releasing a frustrated breath, I threw the phone to the milky coloured couch and stood up from it, pacing around my living room and trying to think of something, anything at all that would make my mind stray away from the numerous number of texts Desmond has been pestering me with for the past four days since I moved to Somerville.
Asking me where I am.
Questioning why I left Lakeville. And even going as far as ordering me to come back.
Who does he think he is? threatening to harm my mother and brother if I don’t return back to his territory?
I cared about my family, but nothing at all would make me go back there anytime soon.
When I left the city and pack territory, I left the harsh memories of my life there.
From the struggles I faced under my parents years back, down to the memories of my marriage with Desmond in my past life.
He wanted Gabriella, she wanted him, so I left their midst, clearing way for them to do whatever they wanted to, without me caring, but yet, they both didn’t seem contented, and their reasons are something I have no single idea about.
Pacing back to the couch, I picked my phone and dialed my mother’s number once again, but just like every single time for the past couple of days, my call was directed to voice mail.
Swiping through the call log, I tapped on Elli’s number and dialed it. It rang for a couple of seconds before it was answered. “Hi, Evie, How are you?” His soothing voice sounded from the other end, leading me to take a momentary pause and tried tone my anger down and not direct it at him. Because he didn’t deserve to get the receiving end of it.
“Elli, I’m fine. How’s mom?” I rubbed a palm on my forehead.
“Mom? she’s fine.” Of course she was fine, she just wasn’t interested in talking to me.
For one, It apeared she was still displeased with my rejection of Desmond at the ceremony.
Two, it appeared she was more annoyed by the fact that my actions led to Elli being taken to the Pack House, last week.
Three, she seemed more displeased with my existence itself.
“I’ve been calling her, she isn’t answering any of my calls.” I released a deep breath, conveying my frustration to Elli.
I heard a subtle sound of keys from the other end, and I assumed he was heading out with his car.
He released a breath at my words, “I talked to her days back, she isn’t saying anything to me.”
Pacing around the living room, I came to a sudden stop and my eyes drifted out of the window, from where I could see the huge house directly opposite mine.

Taking a deeper look, my eyes landed on the two young men who stepped out. The first one was dressed in white long sleeved shirt, black suit and black pants as he walked over to the car packed upfront.
Considering the fence surrounding the house was quite short, I could see them clearly.
The first man on suit, I presumed him to be Rhysand, but the other one dressed in a pair of blue top and black pants, I couldn’t tell who he was.
“Should I come over there to see her then?” Few days ago, before I had left Lakeville, I went to my mom’s apartment to see her, and talk to her, but she locked the door to her room.
And despite the number of times I called out to her name to please come out so we can talk, she never listened.
“Nah, there’s no need. I’ll try to talk to her later and get back to you if she responds. I’m heading over to her place, right about now.” The sound of an engine starting sounded from the other end.
Hearing his words made my mind wander off, and suddenly realizing that my mom might end up talking to Elli made me feel a sudden pang in my chest knowing I’ve never been able to actually have a talk with my mother for years now.
“Alright. I’ll call you later,” A sigh escaped from my lips.
“Bye.” Elli said from the other end and a couple of minutes later, I ended the call.
My eyes drifted back to the two men standing at the compound directly opposite mine, Rhysand tucked his hands to his pocket as he conversed with the other young man.
It’s been over a week now since we last said anything to one another, and I presumed he didn’t need me yet.
If he did, he knew where to find me.
And I’ve also been busy trying to move into the new place and get it into a nice condition for me.
My eyes traveled across the apartment which I ended up agreeing to take after Rhysand had suggested about breaking it down and reconstructing it to my taste.
His obstinacy about me staying here in case of an emergency had ended up persuading me to accept it.
My eyes remained on Rhysand in particular and watched as he turned his head to the direction of my house, before shaking his head subtly.
After watching them for close to five minutes, I walked away from the window and into the kitchen where I’ve brought in almost all my things and decorated to my taste.
I pressed a palm to my stomach when it growled out loud.
It was already close to 12 PM, and I haven’t decided on what to eat, because I woke up to messages from Desmond and it had ruined my morning and appetite.
But now, I was hungry.
Dressed in nothing but a brown crop top and ash joggers, standing in the middle of the kitchen, I pondered about what to cook.
Deciding to make just pancakes, I was about to start when I suddenly heard the doorbell outside ring.
My brows tightened into a frown as I turned my head towards the direction of the living room.

Chapter 28
I’ve never had any visitors, and I wasn’t even expecting anyone, so who was it?
Dropping down the apron in my hand to the counter, I stepped out of the kitchen and headed straight to the door
There wasn’t a peephole, so it was difficult to see who it was before opening the door.

Standing by the door and contemplating on whether to open or not, my right hand went down to the door key and unlocked it, before reaching for the handle and opening the door.
My gaze fell on the brooding tall man, standing outside, dressed in black and white, looking sophisticated and clean and giving off a majestically aura. The scent of his cologne wafted into my nostrils, musky, woody and clean.
“Hey.” I said.
Rhysand stared down at my eyes and didn’t respond for a while, I wondered if he was having a rethink about his decision of coming here in the first place.
His eyes lowered down a little, to my neck and lower again before he stared up back to my eyes.
“Hey.” His voice came out husky and firm.
“Do you need anything?” I couldn’t help but ask cause I was still wondering what he was here for, considering that for the past one week we’ve had no contact with each other and he seemed too busy with work, arriving as late as 12AM every night, and leaving as early as 7AM.
Yet, he looked far from stressed.
“No,” he shook his head, tucking his hands to his pockets, “I’m traveling for a business meeting, and I won’t be back for perhaps the next couple of days.” He explained, and I found it heart melting that he was being thoughtful enough to share his schedule to me, just in case I don’t see him for the next couple of days.
“Oh, you are leaving now?” I dumbly asked and he nodded, staring lower than my eyes once again.
“There’s an event on Friday which you’ll attend with me.” He suddenly stated and I took that as his major reason for coming. over here, perhaps to tell me so I can prepare.
I nodded, “Alright, I’ll get my dress ready for the event.”
He frowned, “I’ll have someone send a dress over to you for the event.”
I rose a brow in his direction, “Why would you? I have money to get a dress for myself.”
“I know, but I’ll get it for you. You don’t have to spend on it,” he persisted, making his point clear.
“Are you afraid that I might not get the right dress for the event? enough to impress your status?” I felt a pang disappointment at the thought, but I quickly shoved it down.

Rhysand’s brows pulled into a frown, “No.” He said straight the point, “I don’t want you to waste your money.”
“Oh.” My lips pressed into a thin line, and then feeling a sharp ache, I released them, remembering how hard I had bitten it
earlier.
“Alright then,” I finally agreed with a nod.
He gave me a nod also, his eyes strained down to my lips, and he took a step forward, perhaps subconsciously, “What happened to you there?” his tone was low as he asked.

“Where?”
“Your lower lip.”
“Got bittened.” I told him and I watched him suddenly stiffen, holding his gaze with mine.
“By who?” his voice asked lowly.
“By who?” I asked him back with a frown, not recalling ever mentioning that someone bit me there.
He nodded stiffly, waiting for my answer.
“By my teeth,” I answered absentmindedly, not sure what he was expecting to hear as he stiffened once again.
“Why? and how hard did you bite down to cause an injury?” his eyes remained fixed on my lips.
It was then my eyes trailed low and saw how close his hands were to touching my lips.
My body turned rigid, and without thinking, I slapped his hand away.
Rhysand stared wide eyes at me in shock at the sudden response just to evade his touch.
“I…” He attempted to say something but shut his lips again, tucking his hands into his pocket.
“I’ll have someone send in a lip balm for the healing of the injury.” I could feel the sudden change in the air around us.
“No, don’t worry about that, I can handle it myself,” he stared up at me and nodded slowly.
“About that,” he gestured with his hands to his lips, referring to his attempt at touching me, “Sorry,” he muttered in a low voice like the words were foreign to him.

“I’ll take my leave.” He nodded and turned around, heading back to the building opposite mine, and I stood there unsure of what to say to stop him.
I didn’t mean to slap his hands away out of his genuine gesture about my wellbeing, I just…
A breath escaped my lips in regret and a couple of minutes later, I watched the gates open, as a pure black shining Bugatti was driven out of the gates, followed by a blue lexus.
I didn’t get the chance to apologize for slapping his hands off.
He was just being genuine and perhaps caring about my wellbeing but I acted harsh to him and his touch.
My lips pressed into a thin line as I watched the cars drive off.
Perhaps it will be for the best if I don’t talk about it again.
