Chapter

Evelynne

Evelynne! Evelynne! The urgent calls pierced through my foggy mind, and I struggled to sit up, my body numb from a deep slumber

As I swung my legs over the side of the bed, the soft breeze carried the sweet scent of summer in to the room, filling me with a sense of unease

My gaze fell on the brown bedsheets, brown curtains, white duvet, and my own brown pyjamas

50

With narrowed eyes, I scanned my surroundings and my brows creased into a frown when realization hit mehow did I get here? and waitSUMMER

I rubbed my neck, searching for the familiar sting of the knife Gabriella had used to slit my throat. But my skin was smooth and unmarked

Confusion gripped me as I pressed my hand against my stomach, feeling for the tiny life that was growing inside me. The emptiness enveloped me and my heart raced in fear

Last thing I recalled was being in the midst of Desmond, Gabriella and Rhysand, swimming in my pool of blood, with a stab to my stomach and a slit through my neck, so how did I get to my room

Evelynne!a loud knock from the door and constant yelling of my name jolted me completely awake and withdrew my attention to the door

As I stood up, my legs wobbled, and I stumbled towards the door. The persistent knocking and Gabriella’s furious voice sent a surge of anxiety through me

I reached for the door, my hands trembled as I unlocked it

Gabriella’s impatient expression and blazing brown eyes made me recoil. Oh for goodness sake, Evelynne! I’ve been knocking for the past ten minutes, why do you have to be such a deep sleeper!”

What’s going on?I asked, my voice barely above a whisper

She rubbed her forehead, There’s no time. The ceremony is in two hours.her eyes stared me down, You need to get ready.”

Realization slowly dawned on me, What ceremony you say?the moment my question came out, there was a sudden pause. Everywhere turned silent and my eyes searched for the calendar in my room. As soon as I spotted it, my heart sank when I saw the circled date and figured we were back to 2018two years before my death

Gabriella frowned, our eyes locked. Ityour mating ceremony with Desmond and I have no time to explain.her annoyance filtered out, and she heaved a deep sigh before handing a box to me

I opened it to see a Crystal blue dress that shimmered like the night sky

Staring down at the dress, my mind played back a wave of different episodes, That’s your dress. I just dropped by to bring them to you.”

She spun around, her long black hair whipping behind her, she glanced at me one last time and muttered, In case you need anything, call out to me, I’ll still be around for a while, there was a brief pause and our eyes locked once again

I had a lot of things to say but I stood unsure of where to start from

She seemed so innocent and caring, which had led me to a heart shattering sight on the night of my mating ceremony, and watching the incidence play again stinged my heart

Go get dressed please, everything is planned out already and your parents are downstairs waiting for you. That was all Gabriella said before she left me in my state of shock

I stood in place, frozen in uncertainty. My thoughts were a swamped mix of fear, and and disbelief. How did I go back in time? and why now

How it occured or why it occured remained, but as my eyes stayed hooked to the dress, it dawned on me that I did went back in time, but why was it the day of our mating ceremony

30th of June, 2018.”

Was the goddess trying to make mockery of my situation by making me relive it

Nothing made sense

Pulling out my pyjamas, I stepped in front of the full length mirror in my room, barely naked and staring down at my neck which had no slit or a mate mark, my stomach which had no signs of a stab or a scar, and my thighs which were clear from the scars wipes Desmond had left there anytime he made love to me..

I stared long, hoping this was all a dream- dying was better than reliving this nightmare

My hand reached out for the small box on the table, my gaze lingered on the promise necklace Desmond had given to me when he found out I was his mate

A low laugh rumbles from my chest, I stared down at the necklace and then to the dress which was now placed on the bed, before returning to the mirror- with complete certainty and no doubt that this was real

Rather than getting dressed for the mating ceremony as I was ordered to, I wore my pyjamas back and stepped out of my room and the first person I saw was Desmond who stood in the hallway conversing with Gabriella

I don’t remember anything about this cause back then I never stepped out of my room, rather I immediately got dressed for the ceremony, but I do recall Gabriella later informing me about Desmond stopping by to visit me before the ceremony started

He glanced at me when my footsteps got closer, his eyes softened like never before and my insides filled with disgust when he muttered my name in the softest way, walked over to me and kissed my forehead

You aren’t ready yet? are you okay? is there anything you need?he asked, dropping his gaze to the watch strapped to his wrist, before staring down at me

His soft voice and gentle gaze made my skin crawl

I looked over his shoulder but Gabriella was nowhere to be found any longer

The soft voice, the warm gaze, the gentle touch, who wouldn’t fall for it? nothing of his actions were giving him away

No,I pursed, slightly unsure of what to say, unable to believe that his warm gaze was just a facade

Who am I kidding? why fall for his deception again- considering I watched first hand how he shattered my hopes, and how he gradually changed from being a soft man to a cruel monster that could only spare his dying mate a pathetic gaze in her pool of blood and regrets

The sole reason why my life ended in mockery

The man I left everything for, only to be gifted with nahing

My blood boiled with unhinged resolve for revenge when past events filtered through my memory

Taking a deep breath, I stepped away from him, leaving his hand hanging on air before it could reach my others

A glint of hurt flashed his eyes, Why are you at my honne?I asked, my voice laced with scepticism, the question was cot before I could think of a more sensible thing to say.

Oh. I dropped by tothere was a pause as if he had no idea why he was here to begin with, seeing this made me come to the conclusion that he might have been here to check up on Gabriella

His hesitation was momentary, but I caught it

I dropped by to check up on you since the ceremony is still two hours away he glanced down at his watch again before muttering, Now an hour and thirtyfive minutes left

Feeling propelled to leave a quick response, I bite down on my lips, I’m pretty sure you have other worries and things to get done before the ceremony as the Alpha

Silence, And considering you just reached out to me after seven nights from when you found out I was your mate. You were absent for seven whole days. I’m not buying your silly reason for coming over when it’s just less than two hours left before the ceremony

The grip on my dress loosen and my shoulders relax, there was no need to hold my guard up in his presence, I was the one with an advantage here and he was the fool trying to entrap me

I had things to do. Desmond’s gaze on me barely wavered, his hands settle on my shoulders, he invaded my personal space with a hug, and muttered with a voice meant to soothe me, I’m sorry”

See you in less than two hours,he whispered, breathing in on my neck, before leaving a kiss there and stepping back

The warmth in his brown eyes remained, and I’m left in a whirlwind of confusion, wondering what changed him, and why he did all he did in my past life

But remembering everything that happened resulted in my knuckles turning pale from the desperate clutch on my pants. I returned to my room, my mind made up. I wouldn’t fall for his charms again. I wouldn’t repeat

the past

The dress on my bed seemed to mock me, I couldn’t wear it, couldn’t go through with the ceremony. Not again, but what do I do

My eyes landed on the promise necklace Desmond had given me, the one I had thought symbolized our eternal love, but now it felt like a suffocating chain, and a gentle reminder of his lies

The silence in the room was interrupted with my heavy breaths, and I contemplated on the choices in my hands

I reached for the chain, my fingers closed around it and with a swift motion, I flung it out the window

The clock on my nightstand read 8:40 AM. An hour and 20 minutes left and I was far from ready

But I’ve made my decision

One that wouldn’t make me live my life in another loop
