Nothing would have prepared me for the sight I woke up to. Although, I’ve always known I had a problem with sleeping on my part of the bed. Always.
But I would never have known it would one day get me to the extent of having my bosom pressed into a very hard chest. and my legs intertwined with his like I had no intention of ever letting him go.
For some twisted reason, I never wanted to.
And when my eyes met Rhysand’s intense dark eyes, I fought the urge to sprint with how dark they were staring down at me with every intention of eating me up. Like a predator who finally caught its prey.
But thing is, the prey was stupid enough to hand herself on a platter cause she couldn’t sleep on her own side of the bed.
“I–i’m-” I’ve never known myself as a stammerer but I just couldn’t find the right words to say. “I’m sorry,” I apologized. knowing very well that this was my fault and not his.
Khysand’s eyes closed for the briefest moment, and I took it as my cue to get off him.
My leg which was placed above his, grazed something very stiff, and my heart skipped a beat.
A shriek tore from my throat, “Who the hell sleeps with a gun?!” and with my mind racing, I quickly scrambled to get off him.
Whatever he kept strapped to the front of his pants felt warm and unyielding beneath my leg, sending a cold shiver down my spine.
Rhysand regarded me with very dark eyes, which seemed darker than the usual shade.
After moving far back to my side of the bed, silence settled between us, and I fought with the urge to keep my next words m myself, but I just couldn’t, “Why do you keep a gun with you while sleeping?” I whispered, my voice shaking slightly as I trie to process what I had thought I felt.
Rhysand stared heatedly at me, as if trying to calculate what my reaction would be to his response, and after a while his lips twitched and he finally answered, “For safety.”
“Oh,” with a nod, my eyes unintentionally drifted back to where the gun was, and I pondered over reasons why he would decide to keep them in the front of his pants.
Dumb as I am, and with every intention of keeping my embarrassment at bay by putting behind the fact that I had crossed my side to his in my sleep, I probed further, “But you could keep it on the bedside table.”
Rhysand frowned, eyes crinkling at the corners, and gave me a small nod, “I could.”
“Then why there? Is it safe keeping a gun that close to your body?” Something in me knew it was time to close the topic already, but no, at least not at the expense of my mortification, which was already growing by the second.
“I don’t know, maybe I just like the feel of it against my skin.” He said half heartedly with a shrug and I rose a brow at him.
“What are the chances that the trigger might pull mistakenly and you end up shooting yourself?” I probed, regarding him
with a curious stare.

I watched as he trusted the dark contred her to the back with his fingers, his movement tense. “But you know I started,
“Can we just drop it, tovelymer he asked, his voice low and husky, “I think we’ve discussed the… pm enough.
His words made me realize two things, One, he was uncomfortable about our discussion. And the second was that I was the dumbest person on earth
My eyes trailed back low again, and my mouth hang open, “Jean! the that isn’t an actual gum, is it?
Of course it wasit!
вернуть
He remained stiff, very stiff on the bed as he watched me with dark eyes.
“No” His response was curt, short and all I needed to know how stupid I was.
“I’m so sorry I began to say, immediately moving towards the edge of the bed, seconds away from sprinting.
“stop” he breathed, “just stop saying anything for now, especially sorry! Noticing how increasingly frustrated he was made me give him a subtle nod
1 pursed my lips at his words and watched him close his eyes and open them again, trying to settle in his breathing, and after a while he shook his head subtly, a smile tugging at his lips, and a low chuckle that rumbled from his chest broke the silence in the room.
I looked between my intertwined fingers to him, and couldn’t help but ask, “What’s funny?”
He shook his head, grazing a thumb across his lower lips while still watching me. I realized he loved watching me, for reasons known to him alone.
Khysand’s eyes settled on my lips briefly, then he caught my gaze, and the sudden urge to sprint out of the room increased
His eyes- they were so dark. So dark and I had a feeling I might get lost in them.
“We are leaving the hotel by 2pm for the meeting, he swiftly changed the topic, settling the tension dancing in the air.
My lips pressed into a thin line, “Who are we meeting?” the question had been hanging in the tip of my tongue since yesterday,
His response was immediate like he was prepared for the question since ages ago, “A business partner, who’s also a family
friend”
I nodded, rubbing the squeezed part of my pants, feeling increasingly uncomfortable with a sudden urge to change into something else, something more simple.
“Four months” Rhysand’s deep voice pulled me out of my thoughts and my gaze darted up to him.
My brows rose up in question, “Four months what?”
“Whoever asks you how long, we’ve been together, tell them four months.” He sat upright on the bed and it was then I
noticed the dark circles under his eyes, “And if you are asked about how serious we are, make them believe you are in love,” his words trailed and he hesitated before his intense dark eyes caught my eyes, “With me.”

“And I’ll do same.” He added.

My heart dropped to my stomach at his words, and the reality of my situation hit me down hard like a tidal wave.
We’ll both be living under false pretense.
Two years, just two years and all this will be over.

Somehow, a part of me knew I’ll end up growing attached to this man, but that was the last thing I wanted, so when he explained what I had to do and how we had to act close in public, my mind conjured up ideas on how to have myself despise him at the end of the day.
Just like Desmond, he was a man after all–he will surely disappoint me. And I had every intention of making it easier for
him.
Rumours had it that although Rhysand was never seen with much women, he loved women.
He had kept a few with him over the years.
Call me weird, but I wanted him to go to other women when we’ll still be together under pretense for the next couple of inonths. And when he does, I’ll mentally remind myself that, he is a man after all.
They always disappoint you when you least expect them to.
“I can touch you when we are in public, right?” he suddenly asked, drifting my attention back to him.
He rose a brow at me, waiting for me to confirm his words, “Appropriately,” I told him.
“Appropriately,” he repeated after me with a nod.
“And only when necessary,” I reminded him, rubbing my palm on the comforter.
“I might need to touch you more than appropriately to prove we are indeed interested in one another,” he reasoned after thoughtful pause, his expression was completely blank, it was difficult to know what he was thinking at the moment.
I didn’t pay much heed to his words, so I only shrugged, “Then only when needed.”
His intense dark eyes fell on my lips for a subtle moment, before he looked up to my eyes and muttered, “Good”
“I want to make some amendments.” I suddenly said and he furrowed his brows at me.
This man.
His eyes scared me. Frightened me. And amazed me. I love his eyes, but he watched me like he had intentions.
The intense look he always gave me, filled me with a twisted urge to run away from him, and also cling to him for dear life.
“What amendments?”
“On the contract.”
He frowned, “Where?”
Clearing my throat, I went straight to the point, “I’ll like to increase the fine that has to be paid if one of us touches the other, when not necessary.

He narrowed his eyes at me, “Why?”

Pressing my lips into a thin line, I pondered for three seconds, and then answered, “I’m keeping my reasons to myself”
“To how much then?” he finally asked, relaxing on the headboard, seeming interested in what I was saying.
“Let’s increase it to a million dollars for whoever breaches the rule.” I looked up at him, and noticed his lips pulling up in the subtlest way, that I nearly missed it.
He seemed to have caught my reason for the sudden change, and he looked impressed.
“I million?” Rhysand asked in a low voice, trying to know how certain I was.
This was something I’ve thought about already, so I nodded.
“You’ll be able to pay that much if you break the rule?” he inquired, raising a brow at me.
“I won’t break the rule.” I responded with clear certainty cause I knew I won’t, no matter how overwhelming the urge to touch him grows.
Rhysand chuckled, low and manly, “Alright,” he nodded.
“The breakfast will come in soon, you can get ready. I have something to sort out with my assistant,” Rhysand said, standing up from the bed, and my gaze trailed over his body for the briefest moment.
An urge to touch him and feel my palms on his skin enveloped me. And I badly wanted to.
His tattoos peeked out of the sleeves in his arms, and the urge to pull up his shirt to see what was hidden beneath enveloped
my senses.
Shaking my head, my thoughts wandered back to the plans I had in mind, and my eyes remained on the man who picked the comforter from the bed and walked into the walk–in closet.
I felt a sudden pang in my heart the more I thought about the things I had in mind to do. But despite how bad I felt, I’ve made my decision already, and I had every intention to go on with it.
So, I don’t end up in a situation where I become emotionally attached to someone who I was meant to just use and then….. dump.
