Chapter 129 She Must Be Fired
I spent the night tossing restlessly, sleep slipping farther away with each passing hour.

When morning came, I hurried through my routine, dressing quickly and getting ready as fast as I could. Just as I reached the stairs, the doorbell rang.
It struck me as strange–who could possibly be visiting at this hour?
Caden opened the door, revealing Eleanor and Queenie standing on the doorstep.
A wave of frustration swept over me when I saw them. Without a word, I turned and pretended not to notice their presence.
“Mom, what are you doing here?” Caden’s voice came from behind me, calm but questioning.
“Is there a problem?” Eleanor’s tone was sharp as she stepped inside, her cold gaze sweeping over us.
She walked into the living room and sank onto the couch. Queenie followed, her steps silent but deliberate.
“Caden, have you been ignoring me?” Eleanor’s eyes narrowed with suspicion. “The petition from the board -did you even give it any thought?”
A petition?
I couldn’t stand there any longer. My curiosity got the better of me, and I descended the stairs to see what was happening.
The moment Eleanor spotted me, her face soured, and she let out an audible huff of disapproval.
I was taken aback. I hadn’t done anything to provoke her–so why was she acting like this?
Caden, ever composed, responded with quiet resolve. “I’m handling it.”
“Handling it?” Eleanor’s voice grew sharper. “How? We’ve asked you to fire Rosaline, but you’re still refusing to do so. Do you want her to destroy Eclipse Group?”
A cold knot formed in my stomach. So that’s what this was about? They wanted me gone?
Eleanor had come all this way just to argue over this? It felt absurd.
Caden’s face tightened, his calm demeanor replaced by a distant, unwavering resolve. After glancing at me, he checked his watch.
“This has nothing to do with Rosaline. I’m heading to Fostrau soon. We’re on a tight schedule, Mom. If you don’t have anything urgent, it’s best you head home.”
Eleanor’s face darkened with frustration at being dismissed. Her eyes flicked to my luggage, and her tone grew icier. “Is she going with you as well?”
“Yes.” I walked over to Caden, setting my luggage down beside him. I linked my arm through his, my gaze steady. “I’m going with him. Is there a problem with that?”
Queenie stepped forward, glaring at me with barely concealed animosity. She looked to Caden, her expression pleading. “Caden, I want to go with you too.”

“Enough. This is not a game,” Caden’s voice cut through the tension, his rejection final and firm.

“Don’t worry, cousin. I’m not just playing around,” Queenie insisted, her voice brimming with urgency. “I genuinely want to help Eclipse Group too.”
Eleanor nodded, her expression resolute, “Queenie’s right. She could be a valuable addition if you let her join you.”
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Help?
She had other plans.
My mind flashed back to the night Caden had been drunk, and the way Queenie had acted. A sarcastic smile tugged at my lips. “Help? More like trouble. What exactly could Queenie contribute?”
“Rosaline, what are you getting at?” Queenie’s face stiffened. She opened her mouth to retort, but Caden’s cold voice sliced through the air.
“Enough,” he said sharply, stepping between us and gently pushing Queenie aside. “Queenie, you need to focus on school. You don’t need to worry about Eclipse Group.”
Frustration crossed Queenie’s face. She took a deep breath, her voice unwavering but defiant. “Why does Rosaline get to go, but I don’t?”
“Rosaline’s going because it’s Grandpa’s decision,” Caden replied, his tone thick with irritation. “If you have a problem with that, take it up with him.”
Queenie bit her lip and cast a glance at Eleanor, her eyes full of unspoken words. “Aunt Eleanor…”
Eleanor sprang to her feet, her anger unmistakable. She turned sharply to Caden. “Fine, if it’s his call, I won’t argue. But hear this–if Rosaline causes Eclipse Group any more trouble, I will hold her responsible.”
“Enough, Mom,” Caden said, his voice firm as he dismissed them with a sharp glance. “You can take Queenie home now.”
Eleanor’s face flushed with frustration, she grabbed Queenie by the arm and stormed out.
I watched them leave, a strange discomfort settling in my chest.
For the past month, I’d been working tirelessly for Eclipse Group, and yet Eleanor had rallied the board to push for my removal.
It felt utterly pointless.
I turned to Caden, my voice steady but cool. “Don’t worry. I’ll be gone in two months. Your mom won’t have any reason to make things difficult for you then.”
“Rosaline, that’s just how my mom is,” Caden said, stepping closer, his hand settling gently on my sho “Don’t let it get to you.”

His usual distant gaze was replaced with something more intense, something new. His voice dropped, low and almost husky. “Trust me, I’ll take care of things with her. I won’t let her make things hard for you again.”
His words lingered in the air, and for a moment, my heart fluttered.
It was clear–he cared for me.

I took a step back, a faint smile playing on my lips as I steered the conversation elsewhere. “Enough about that. We should get going, or we’ll be late.”
Caden’s calm demeanor returned, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “Let’s go.”
We headed to the airport, and Caden guided me toward a sleek, private Boeing jet.
“Is this your plane?” I asked, my eyes wide as I took in the luxurious aircraft before us.
The Shadow Pack owned several private jets. I remembered that for my birthday last year, Grandpa had offered to buy me a plane just like this. I had turned it down, though.
The reason was simple–I was afraid of heights.
“Mr. Holbrook, Ms. Sinclair,” the pilot and flight attendants greeted us with respect as we approached.
“Let’s go,” Caden said, taking my hand and leading me up the steps.
Soon, the plane ascended into the sky, climbing swiftly until it disappeared into the clouds.
