Chapter 149 You Care About Him
“Annie, are you okay?” I asked, feigning concern.
Finished
She looked flustered, tugging at her dress in an attempt to cover up, but it didn’t help much. In the end, she could only force a weak smile. “I tripped, that’s all.”
“I see.” I chose not to expose the lie and instead offered kindly, “Why don’t you rest in my room for a bit? I have some ointment that might help. If the bruises leave scars, that wouldn’t be good, right?”
“That would be great, thank you.” Annic nodded, clearly still shaken from whatever had just happened with Joseph.
I led her into my room, retrieving the ointment from a drawer and handing it to her.
“Thanks,” she said, seeming genuinely grateful.
I casually brought up, “How are things between you and Bruce?”
Her face instantly dimmed at the mention of his name.
“We’re not together anymore,” she admitted, her voice laced with sadness and reluctance.
“What happened? Was it because of that incident at the banquet?” I asked as though I weren’t particularly invested.
Clenching her jaw, Annie spat bitterly, “It’s all Rosaline’s fault! She’s the reason everything fell apart!”
I raised an eyebrow as if just realizing something. “So, Rosaline was behind everything that night?”
“Yes, it’s her!” Annie’s hatred was evident in her expression.
“What’s so special about Rosaline?” I scoffed. “Besides playing tricks to attract men, what else can she do?” Narrowing my eyes, I added, “If you want Bruce back, there’s a way.”
Her eyes lit up. “Ms. Crawford, tell me! I’ll do whatever it takes to change his mind.”
I smiled slightly. “Bruce probably left you because Rosaline manipulated him. If we can make him see her for who she is—and even get her to admit to what she did to you–things might turn around.”
“She’ll never confess!” Annie said through gritted teeth.
I leaned in, whispering something into her ear.
As I pulled away, Annie smirked. “This time, Rosaline is finished.”
I just hoped she wouldn’t mess it up.
Rosaline’s POV:
Night had fallen, but sleep refused to come. I tossed and turned, my mind replaying Caden’s tender words from the Ferris wheel–and the name he accidentally said earlier.
“Alpha, your heart is restless, as if there’s a knot you can’t untangle,” Freya’s voice echoed in my mind.

Freya sighed. “Why not try sleeping with him?”
“Ugh, what kind of advice is that?”
She chuckled in response.
“Sometimes, a destined mate isn’t just given to you–you have to go after him yourself.”
Her words struck a chord, but I remained silent.
Caden still had Tessa in his heart. If I pursued him, I might end up with nothing in the end.
It was frustrating, and I didn’t want to dwell on it anymore.
Abruptly sitting up, I grabbed my phone and called Yura. “Come have a drink with me at the bar.”
Finished
I must have woken her up because she groggily groaned, “Miss, do you have any idea what time it is? It’s the middle of the night! What’s wrong?”
“Not feeling great,” I muttered.
That woke her up completely. “Rosaline, what happened?”
“I’ll tell you when we meet.”
“Alright, send me your location. I’ll pick you up.”
After changing clothes, I left my room and waited at the entrance of the hotel.
Yura’s car arrived just as I stepped outside. She rolled down the window. “Get in.”
Sliding into the passenger seat, I barely had time to settle before she leaned in and studied my face. “Okay, tell me. Did Caden piss you off again?”
“Don’t bring him up! Just drive,” I snapped.
She smirked but said nothing as she started the car. Once at the bar, we found a quiet corner to sit in. She poured me a glass of red wine and pushed it toward me.
“Now spill. How did he make you mad this time?”
I downed the drink in one gulp. “I don’t even know how to explain it.”
“Huh?” Yura tilted her head, puzzled.
Pouring myself another glass, I swirled the liquid idly. “Caden has always had feelings for someone else.”
I briefly told her about Tessa.
Yura nodded, then looked at me and asked bluntly, “So you think he’s using you as her replacement?”
“Isn’t that obvious?” I countered.
“I don’t think so ” Yura said seriously “If he’s choosing to pursue vou, why are vou hesitatino?”

Finished
I exhaled sharply. “Because I’m the Alpha of the Shadow Pack. I have responsibilities–not just to myself, but to my family. I don’t have to believe in destined mates, but I can’t accept a future husband who loves someone else.”
