But we were still up in the air, and we hadn’t completely escaped danger yet.
However, the islands in the distance gave us hope.
If they had fresh water, that would be even better.
The real question was–how long would it take us to swim there?
Would the food Caden brought be enough to sustain us until we reached land?
Could grandpa really receive my signal and come to rescue us?

I silently prayed for a stroke of luck. If a passing ship spotted us, we could be rescued before we even had to swim.
We descended steadily, getting closer and closer to the sea.
The vast ocean stretched endlessly in every direction, with the sea breeze blowing, stirring the waves into towering swells and white crests foaming as they crashed.
My heart was once again clenched with anxiety.
Even though both us and our wolves could swim, the vast ocean was filled with unpredictable dangers.
“We’re about to hit the water, hold your breath!” Caden warned as he untied the rope around us and put the life vest on me.
Gripping my hand firmly, he pulled me close as we plunged into the sea.
The moment we hit the water, I gasped and accidentally choked on several mouthfuls of salty seawater. The briny taste filled my throat, making me uncomfortable.
When I raised my head, Caden’s wolf had swum toward me and quickly held me with its strong paws, signaling me to ride on its back.
I kissed the white wolf on its forehead and said, “I’m alright. Thank you.”
There was no need for formalities now. I climbed onto his back, gripping his fur tightly as he kicked off and his powerful limbs slicing through the water, paddling towards the island.
