Chapter 24 Tangled Tensions
This was so embarrassing.
Freya’s laughter echoed in my mind, completely unhelpful.

My face burned as 1 tiptoed to the bathroom door and cracked it open just enough to poke my head out. “Um. I dropped something by accident. Can you, uh, give it back?”
Caden’s gaze swept over my face, and the corner of his lips curled into a knowing smile. His large, defined hand held out the embarrassing piece of underwear, returning it to me.“Be careful,” he said, his voice low and teasing. “don’t let it fall again.”

“Thanks!” I accidentally brushed his hand. The heat of his palm shot through me.
Matched it quickly 1. and I slammed the door shut, leaning against it with my heart pounding like crazy. I could actually hear it- it was that loud.
This was too much. Why had I ever agreed to come to Eclipse Pack? Living under the same roof as Caden was starting to feel like a terrible idea.
I took a few deep breaths to shake off the inexplicable tension building in me.
Finally finishing my shower, I walked out and saw Caden sitting on the sofa.
His long legs were casually crossed, and those handsome hands held a business magazine. His sharp brows were slightly furrowed as he focused intently on the pages.
Why was he still up? Was he waiting for me?
I’m going to bed, I announced as I walked past him. Right after I said it, I realized it sounded a little off.
“Oh?” He looked up, his voice rich and slightly teasing. “Is that an invitation?”
What?! An invitation?!
I was just really tired and simply wanted to sleep, but why did it sound so different when it came from this man’s mouth?
“Caden!” I put on my best no–nonsense face. “Stop being so full of yourself. We’re only engaged because our families agreed to it, and it’s ending in three months. So drop the jokes, alright?”
His eyes turned cold, and he stood, looking down at me. I instinctively took a step back, my guard up.
“Relax. I don’t go for just anything. Women like you, with no figure? Not my type.”
What? Did I hear that right? Did he just say I have no figure?
I couldn’t help but twitch my lips. This was probably the best joke in the werewolf continent.
Anyone who saw me would praise my curves, the perfect hourglass figure!
“You’ve got no figure! Neither does your whole family!” I shot him a glare, annoyed.
Hearing my words, Caden stared at me for a few seconds, his gaze darkening. “I’m going to the study,” he said flatly.

With that, he took a long stride and headed toward the study.

Roseline was surprisingly fun.

Once in the study. I tried reading, but images of Roseline kept creeping into my thoughts,
Especially when she peeked out of the bathroom, the warm light casting a soft glow on her freshly steamed skin, pink and smooth like a fresh peach.
There was no denying it–she was captivating.
Suddenly. Edward’s voice popped into my head. “If you like her, don’t hold back. I’m not sure if she’s your destined Mate, but remember, you’re the future Alpha of Eclipse Pack, and she’s your fiancée. Why not just…
I said. “Roseline is impressive–she’s clever, confident, and keep

her dignity.”
“Caden, you hurt your hand. Let me bandage it for you.” The little girl had worn a ponytail, and her tiny hands gently wrapped my injured hand with a handkerchief, tying a perfect bow at the end.
“Does it still hurt?” She looked up at me, her beautiful eyes wide and worried.
I’d hugged her tight, whispering with determination, “It doesn’t hurt. Don’t be scared, Tessa–someone will
come save us.”
The memory held me there for a long, long time.
I finally opened my drawer, taking out a worn handkerchief, now faded. I stared at it for what felt like forever.
Tessa, are you still okay?
