The sudden sound of my phone ringing broke the silence. I picked it up, and Anthony’s frantic voice came through the speaker. “Wilda, have you seen what’s trending? How in the world did you end up on that list?
“I’ve seen it,” I replied with a casual smile, adding nonchalantly, “I guess when you’re popular, drama just follows.”
“Alright, but who would dare slander you like that? I’ll take care of it right now!” Anthony exclaimed, clearly angry. “These idi*ts are spreading lies about you–I’ll back their systems and shut them down!”
“There’s no need,” I answered, my voice calm. “If they want to be in the spotlight, let them stay there.”
Anthony was baffled. “Wilda, aren’t you worried about your reputation?”
I let out a cold laugh. “The more they slander me now, the more entertaining it’ll be later. If they want to play, I’m ready to play.”
There was a brief silence before he spoke again, “So you’ve got a plan?”
I gave a small hum of agreement. “Yes. Help me dig into Stella’s background.”
Since Stella had been so determined to cause me trouble, she had to have left some traces behind.
Anthony immediately replied, “Got it, Wilda. I’ll have some news for
you soon.”
I ended the call and rubbed my temples.
This was becoming too much. I had planned to quietly go through the next few months and leave without drawing attention, but now I was right in the middle of a storm.
If someone wanted to provoke me, they were about to find out what would happen when they messed with an Alpha.
I had woken up early this morning and worked nonstop, only to be dragged into this mess with Milana, that irritating woman. Now, I was exhausted.
I stifled a yawn and got up to head to the break room for some coffee.
As I walked down the hallway, I noticed several employees at Eclipse Group glancing at me, whispering behind their hands.
“Do you think Ms. Sinclair really pushed Stella into the lake?”
“Well, that’s what the trendy search says.”
“I never would’ve guessed.”
“That’s the thing about not knowing someone well enough. I heard Rosaline’s from the countryside— Omega types like her can be the most dangerous.”
The gossip kept coming, but I didn’t let it get to me. I walked calmly to the break room, ignoring the stares and whispers.

I was bending down to prepare my coffee when the door suddenly opened, and I looked up to see a tall figure walking in–it was Caden.
I blinked, a little surprised. If I remembered correctly, Caden, being the CEO, didn’t usually step into the break room. Those little tasks, like grabbing coffee, were typically handled by his assistants.
He closed the door behind him and walked over to me, looking at me from above. “Are you okay?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” I set my cup down and kept my face neutral.
Caden seemed a bit taken aback. “Didn’t you see what’s trending?”
“Oh, that.” I chuckled softly, not bothered at all. “I didn’t do anything wrong, so why should I care?”
Still, I couldn’t help but feel a little touched.
Caden had seen the trending topic too. As my boss and my fiancé in name, he had probably noticed the rumors. For him to come find me, stepping out of his usual role, was actually quite thoughtful.
He reached out and gently took my hand, his expression full of concern. “Don’t worry. I’ve already had them take it down. I’ve told everyone–if anyone dares talk about you behind your back, they’re fired.”

I froze, unsure of what to say. I didn’t need him to go this far.
I had hoped to let the rumors stir for a bit longer, to let the public’s reaction build up. But now he was intervening, too much, in a way that was sweet, yet overwhelming.
I forced a smile. “Really, I’m fine.”
Caden leaned closer, his voice dropping to a soft whisper in my ear. “Rosaline, you’re my fiancée. No matter what happens, I won’t let anyone hurt you. Understand?”
His breath brushed against my neck, sending a shiver through me. I felt my face flush, and my heart started
to race.
I had to take a few deep breaths to calm myself down.
This feeling that I couldn’t explain was frustrating.
How could I, an Alpha of the Shadow Pack who commanded fierce werewolves, be so affected by Caden?
After a moment, I pushed him gently away. “Caden, don’t get too involved. This is just a contract between us, and I can handle it.”
The arrangement between us was clear. If he did too much for me, I’d feel like I owed him.
Just as I was finishing my sentence, I suddenly felt Caden’s grip tighten around my hand. Before I could react, I stumbled and was pulled toward him, ending up in his arms.
I looked up at him, startled. “What are you doing?”
His voice was low and steady. “Rosaline, do you really only see me as your contract fiancé?”
Surrounded by his strong. reassuring presence. my heart skipped a beat.
