“So what? What did I do wrong? I was abandoned as a child, while you enjoyed wealth and privilege. Why should I accept poverty?
In his eyes, you were always his daughter. But when I made one mistake, he dared to hit
- me.
I only treated him the way I was treated by my adoptive parents.

Gianna’s face twisted in rage, her expression grotesque, like a madwoman.
I wiped the tear from the corner of my eye and gave her a sarcastic smile before softly
replying,
“Don’t get too smug. Evil will be repaid by evil.
Don’t think that just because you’ve been locked up, things will go easy for you. Do you
know that money can solve many problems?
The days ahead will be your slow torment.”
I agreed to Robert’s proposal.

He was a very considerate person. He handled everything for the wedding–the venue, the
ceremony.
It saved me a lot of trouble, and Jacob was right. Robert really was a good person.
Our wedding was grand. The entire business circle, along with reporters and friends,
attended the ceremony.
Under the witness of the host, we declared our vows.
But during the ring exchange part,
A man dressed plainly rushed onto the stage and knelt before me.

“Margaret, you can’t marry him. I know you’re doing all this to get back at me, and you’ve succeeded. Margaret, marry me, please. I swear I will treat you well and never let you suffer again.”
Only then did I realize the man in front of me was Christian, holding the ring that had once belonged to Gianna and now waving it in front of me.
“Christian, you’re still so confident. There’s no possibility for us anymore. It was only because our families were close that I even considered being with you. Otherwise, do you ink that someone who lost his family’s fortune in less than a year would be someone I’d
want to be with?”
Christian stood frozen, still unwilling to accept it.
“No, this can’t be. Margaret, I know you’re still lying to me. You’re punishing me for what happened at the engagement ceremony. I was wrong. I truly was wrong.” He spoke while slapping himself in the face.
“Tell me, what do I need to do for you to forgive me?”
Luckily, the security arrived just in time and dragged Christian off the stage.
The scene settled back to normal, and the ceremony continued as planned.
Robert leaned in close, his voice full of tenderness as he whispered in my ear,
“Margaret, I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long. Actually, when you were engaged, I wanted to interrupt the wedding.”
A sweet warmth stirred in my heart.
I reached out and completed this contract of hearts.
Afterward, Christian didn’t show up again. I heard that he was hit hard by the blow, and when he tried to make a comeback, he ended up bankrupt again.
With massive debts, he fled overseas.
All of that was none of my concern. My life would only continue to get more exciting.
