“I was with Alex for two years, almost got married, but luckily we didn’t, because Alex was secretly keeping a mistress, living off me, eating my food, staying in my house, and even getting work through my family, all while stabbing me in the back.”
“Everyone, look at the first picture.”
The projection screen displayed the chat records between Alex and Emily. The explicit flirting words immediately sparked gossip among the crowd.
Ophelia, your boyfriend loves me so much, look at the big red envelope he sent me.
Ophelia, your boyfriend bought me so many clothes today, oh, and even gave me a kiss.
The picture showed them kissing passionately.
Alex’s face grew darker and darker.
I called everyone from the neighborhood group to come over and watch, and more and
more people gathered.
“This is just the beginning, showing affection is light compared to what Emily often sends
me–photos and videos of her and Alex spending the night together.”
On the screen, glaring images of the couple in compromising positions flashed, accompanied by their sultry, intimate sounds.
Alex was furious and embarrassed, charging towards the screen to kick it down.
But the bodyguard I had hired grabbed him by the collar and yanked him back.
Alex: “Ophelia, I warn you, don’t go too far!”
Alex: “Have you no shame?”
Alex: “Am I spoiling you so much that you’ve forgotten your place as a woman?”
My dad cursed loudly: “What place? You’re eating my food, living under my roof, and now

you want to go after my daughter too? You’re dreaming!”
“You’re the one keeping a mistress behind my daughter’s back and still have the nerve to
complain?”
Alex’s mom wasn’t happy to hear this. Holding her grandchild, she raised her neck and started yelling:
“My son is a grown man, who can take all the pressure from your daughter? Besides, it’s Hormal for a man to have a mistress, what’s the problem? Is your daughter laying golden eggs or silver eggs? Just because you have a bit of money, you think you can shame my
son!”
I was about to retort, but Alex’s dad pulled her away.
Alex’s dad: “In–laws, I’m not saying Alex is in the right, but his mom has a point too. After all, he’s a man, and men care about face. Alex is young, and he’s from our village, a university graduate, it’s rare. Back then, so many people wanted to introduce their daughters to us, but we didn’t want any of them. We agreed to this marriage because your daughter was a good match and it was a good match financially, so we were willing. But the way you’re doing this, it’s damaging our relationship.”
“Here’s the deal: Alex is a grown man, a man of honor, let’s have him apologize, and this will all be over. We can go on with the wedding and settle things.”
My mom shot back without hesitation: “What’s this about a good match? Who isn’t a university graduate these days? Alex went to a cheap school and really thinks you’ve raised him like royalty. Back then, you all acted so high and mighty, and now behind the scenes, he’s keeping a mistress? And you still want to marry off your daughter to him?”
“I’ll tell you, no way!”
Alex’s dad: “You’re wrong. Our son is capable, but you’re too narrow–minded to see it.
“Alex keeping a mistress isn’t right, but your daughter has a bad temper. If your daughter wasn’t so controlling, this wouldn’t have happened.”
Both of his parents kept blaming me for not being virtuous, not gentle and considerate enough. In the end, it boiled down to them blaming me for not handing over my family’s wealth to them.
