Chapter 141
Lewis reached out just in time to steady Doris. Her small face was flushed with an enticing rosy hue, her eyes shimmering with a watery brilliance.
“You look handsome in a suit, but even when you’re angry, you still look so good,” Doris said, her fingers shamelessly tracing the bulging of his Adam’s apple, gently rubbing it.
As if a jolt of electricity passed through him, Lewis grabbed her misbehaving fingers. Doris leaned against him, tilting her head back, her long lashes fluttering like delicate butterfly wings.
“Stop with the flattery.” Lewis wasn’t buying her compliments and reached out to push her back, trying to straighten her up. But Doris, instead, wrapped her arms around his lean, strong waist, her fingers locking tightly behind him, not letting go.
“What if I do this?” Doris stood on tiptoe, emboldened by the wine, and sneakily kissed him on the cheek. After pulling away, the smile in her eyes lit up, as bright as stars.
“Doris, you-” He wanted to call her shameless, but the more she smiled, the brighter it became.
He placed his right hand on the back of her head, his gaze as deep as an ancient well, void of any light. “Doris, you started this.”
After speaking, he pressed down, forcing her head toward him. He lowered his head, his lips just brushing against her soft, sweet ones. Since she wanted to act drunk, then he would get drunk with her.
The sunlight gradually filled the room, rays piercing through the windows. Doris furrowed her brows slightly before slowly opening her eyes. She sat up, rubbing her forehead, unable to remember when she had gone to bed the night before.
All she remembered was that she and Lewis were eating, she drank some wine, had a little more- After that, she really couldn’t recall anything.
Doris slowly got out of bed and tidied herself up before heading out. Lewis was already getting ready to leave. Hearing movement, he turned around to see Doris coming out to get some water.
Doris also saw him. “Are you leaving?”
“Mm.” Lewis adjusted his tie with a hand.
Doris immediately recognized the tie. It was the one she gave him yesterday, along with his entire outfit today.
“You–are you wearing that to work today?” Doris didn’t expect him to be so fast, wearing the clothes they bought yesterday already.
“What’s wrong with it?” He glanced at himself, seemingly finding nothing wrong with his attire.
“No.” Doris shook her head and complimented, “Mr. Hartman looks really handsome today.”
“Wasn’t I handsome before?” He surprised himself with the question.
“You’re just more handsome today,” Doris smiled while holding her cup.
“There’s an important meeting today, and the new clothes you bought came in handy.” Lewis approached Doris, lightly pinching her cheek. “Mrs. Hartman, you can put more thought into this in the future. I’d really appreciate it.”
Doris‘ heart skipped a beat. “Oh–okay.”

“You seem a bit reluctant, Lewis remarked, not hearing any happiness in her tone.
“I’m not reluctant.” Doris denied. “You should go to work now.”
Lewis didn’t bring up what had happened the previous night, and Doris felt too shy to ask.

Lewis drove out of the underground parking garage in a Magotan, then switched to the waiting Rolls–Royce to head for the Hartman Group. As soon as he got in the car, driver Hank noticed Lewis was dressed differently.
“Mr. Hartman, this is new clothing, isn’t it?” Hank asked with certainty, Hank had never seen Lewis in anything other than his white shirt and black suit. Black, white, and gray were his usual style.
“Yes, my wife bought it,” Lewis replied, a hint of pride in his voice.
“Your wife has a great eye for fashion, she knows how to dress people. You look even more handsome,” Hank complimented.
“Hank, when did you become so good at flattering people?” Lewis adjusted his tie with a pleased smile.
When Lewis arrived at the Hartman Group, people on the upper floors couldn’t help but stare in surprise. Their CEO had finally stepped out of his black, white, and gray wardrobe.
Though black, white, and gray were timeless classics, he could still wear them with charm. This suit and shirt combination was a refreshing change, though, leaving a strong impression. A barely noticeable smile curled at the corner of Lewis’s lips as he felt a subtle satisfaction.
Following behind Lewis, Daniel said, “Mr. Hartman, you’re wearing new clothes today. I’m guessing this style isn’t what you chose?”
“The clothes are from Doris.” Lewis elegantly sat in his office chair. “I didn’t want to wear them, but she insisted. She said I look good in them.”
He usually wore custom–made clothes from brands, never something so inexpensive, but for Doris, spending thousands was already a bit extravagant.
“Ms. Reed really knows how to choose clothes,” Daniel said, knowingly, though he kept his thoughts hidden, pretending to be indifferent despite being inwardly pleased.
“It’s alright.” Lewis maintained his usual cold demeanor. “These clothes only look good on me. If someone else wore them, it’d probably be a disaster.”
Daniel simply smiled. Mr. Hartman was indeed confident, and he had the merit to back it up.
During the meeting, attendees sensed that today’s Lewis was different. Although his handsome face showed no expression, they could tell he was in a good mood.
During the break, Lewis wasn’t in the meeting room. Someone asked Daniel, “Daniel, did Mr. Hartman have something happy happen today? He’s in a good mood. I think I made a mistake earlier, but he didn’t even get mad.”
“Yes, same here. I was nervous, but seeing Mr. Hartman not get upset when I made a mistake, I wasn’t nervous anymore.”
“This has been the easiest meeting by far.”
Daniel just said, “You should thank Mr. Hartman for wearing new clothes today.”
“Hasn’t Mr. Hartman always worn new clothes?” Someone was a bit slow on the uptake.
“Today, the colors aren’t black, white, and gray.” Someone else pointed out.
“What’s special about these clothes?”

“These clothes weren’t bought by Mr. Hartman.”
“Who bought them, then?”
“Can’t say.”

After the meeting, Lewis returned to his office and started reviewing documents. Soon, he received a call from his sister, Luna Hartman.
“Aren’t you busy?” he asked. His celebrity sister had a schedule even tighter than his.
“Bro, just a reminder to bring Doris to my concert tomorrow.” Luna had kicked off her national tour, and her hometown of Hampstone was the third stop.
She had finally returned, and of course, she wanted to see what kind of woman had managed to marry her proud, high- maintenance brother, who had little interest in marriage.
The family had told her that Doris was good–looking, with a nice personality, and most importantly, Lewis didn’t seem to mind her.
“We’ll talk later.” Lewis signed his name on some documents with flair.
“Bro, I’m only asking once. If you don’t agree, I’ll tell Grandpa and Grandma, and Mom and Dad,” Luna threatened. “I’ll even cry in front of your office.”
“How old are you, and still telling on people? Do your fans know you act like this?” said Lewis.
“They love me much more deeply than you do,” answered Luna.
The call abruptly ended. Lewis went back to work. During lunch break, he called Doris, “Have you eaten?”
“Yes,” Doris responded, but she fell silent.
Lewis thought there was no signal and picked up his phone to check, but the call was working fine. “What are you busy with?”
“Looking for tickets,” she said.
“What tickets?” asked Lewis.
“Lola said Luna has a concert at Hampstone Stadium tomorrow. We’ve been so busy lately that we forgot about it. Now Lola and I are trying to find two tickets so we can go. Do you need something? If not, I’ll get back to what I was doing,” said Doris.
