Lewis sat in his car when Daniel called. “Mr. Hartman, as per your instructions, we sent Leon’s misconduct files to Vincent West. Leon Morris has been fired.”
“Good,” Lewis nodded in satisfaction.
Last night, he had seen Leon touching Doris inappropriately–he could tell at a glance the guy was scum.
That bastard had dared to lay hands on his wife and even made her wear high heels as a greeter, injuring her feet. Did he really think he could get away with it?
For people like Leon, Lewis could make them disappear in a snap.
Suddenly, the car came to a halt. Lewis asked, “What’s going on?”
“I’ll check,” the driver said before stepping out.
A moment later, he returned, speaking carefully, “Mr. Hartman, there’s been an accident ahead, causing traffic congestion. I think it might be your wife.”
Lewis’s eyes widened. “What?”
“Your wife,” the driver, Hank, clarified.
“Doris?” Lewis’s brows furrowed tightly.
Hank nodded. “Do you want to check?”
Before Hank even finished speaking, Lewis had already pushed open the door and stepped out. “Drive off. Don’t wait for me.”
With that, he strode forward, his pace quickening without him realizing it.
Pulling out his phone, he called Ivan. “Hampstone Hotel entrance. Get here now!”
From a distance, he could already hear Doris apologizing to the male driver. “Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention. I’m really sorry.”
But the driver wasn’t having it. He pointed at Doris and shouted angrily, “What use is sorry?
“If you wanna die, find someone else! Don’t drag me into this!
“Unbelievable!
“You almost got me into an accident, and now you’re crying like you’re the victim. Who are you trying to scare?
–
“Let me tell you I’m not afraid!
“There’s surveillance here, and it’s clear you weren’t looking where you were going. If you got yourself killed, it wouldn’t be my fault!
“But you better pay me for emotional distress and lost wages-$700, or you’re not leaving!”
Doris didn’t care about the driver’s scolding, nor did she bother with her own injuries. Instead, she looked at her damaged bike and the spilled food delivery scattered on the ground. Sitting there, she cried like a child abandoned by their mother.
The money she earned from today’s deliveries probably wouldn’t even be enough to cover it.

Lewis pushed through the crowd with early cerides and sound on from of the “If anything happens to her, I’ll make sure you pay with your life?
His voice was calm, fent it was faced with an unmist that that seat chills down everyone’s spine.
The driver was intimidated by Lewis overwhelming presence. He stampered, “W–Who are you? Mind your own business?”
“She’s my wife. Who do you think I am? Lewis doctored
“Then you’re just in time. Give me $700, and I won’t hold her responsable
Lewis ignored him and turned to Doris Seeing the blood trickling from the scrape on her forehead and her tear–streaked face, he wanted to scold her but couldn’t bring himself to
He crouched in front of her and softened his voice, “Does it hurt? Anywhere else injured?
Doris was surprised to see him there and shook her head. “No, it doesit burt
“You’re crying, and you say it doesn’t hurt? Lewis frowned.
“It hurts here” Doris pointed to her chest, her tear–stained face looking pitiful
Lewis’s sharp gaze swept toward the driver, his expression turning so aggressive and menacing that he looked like a grim reaper straight from the depths of hell.
The driver’s face twisted in fear, and he instinctively took two steps back.
He had braked in time–Doris shouldn’t be seriously injured
“Come on. I’m taking you to the hospital for a check–up: Lewis carefully helped Doris up.
“Pay up-$700, or you’re not leaving The driver puffed up his chest, trying to muster the courage to stand his ground.
Lewis stared at him in silence, his eyes cold and stormy, like the sky just before a violent tempest.
Intimidated by Lewis’s sheer presence, the driver subconsciously took a step back.
Just then, Ivan arrived and stepped beside the driver. “I’m Mr. Hartman’s lawyer. If you have any concerns, talk to me.”
Lewis trusted Ivan to handle things and turned to Doris. “Can you walk?”
“I can.” Doris bit her lip, determined to move, but as soon as she took a step, pain shot through her scraped knee, making her
wince.
Seeing that, Lewis didn’t hesitate–he simply scooped her up.
Doris felt uncomfortable and struggled slightly.
“Don’t move,” Lewis warned.,
He placed her into Ivan’s car and waited.
Within minutes, the driver had driven away, and Ivan returned to the car.
“To the hospital,” Lewis instructed.
Ivan started the car and drove off. Doris asked, “That’s it? It’s settled just like that?”
“Of course. Trying to argue with a lawyer? He never stood a chance.” Ivan glanced at the blood on her forehead. “Be more

careful when crossing the street next time. Safety first”
“Thank you for your concern, Mr. Mitchell. I’ll be more careful in the future.
Doris subtly used her peripheral vision to observe Lewis.
Ever since they got into the car, he had been staring out the window in complete silence, his expression cold as ice.
The air in the car was suffocating
Nervously, Doris reached out and lightly tugged on Lewis’s sleeve. “Are you mad?”
Lewis had never supported her food delivery gig. Now, something had actually happened.
“Why would I be mad? I’m not the one who got hurt, Lewis replied without even looking at her, his tone frigid.
“I’ll be more careful next time,” Doris murmured, feeling guilty.
“Yeah, because next time, you might not be so lucky to only hurt your arm. His words were venomous.
Doris knew she was in the wrong, and since he was clearly upset, she chose not to argue.
At His Grace Hospital, after seeing the doctor in the surgical department, the doctor said, “It’s just multiple soft tissue abrasions, no bone injury. A little medication will do.”
“Doctor, she said her chest hurt. Could you give her a check–up?” Lewis suggested.
Doris remembered this and tugged at Lewis’s sleeve, feeling guilty. “The pain I felt wasn’t because of the accident, it was because-”
Doris stole a glance at Lewis’s expression, too afraid to continue.
Lewis lowered his eyelashes slightly, staring at Doris who was avoiding his gaze. “Continue,” he said.
“I’d better not say it. You’ll be even angrier if I do.” Doris wasn’t looking for trouble.
Lewis reassured her, “Say it. I won’t be angry.
Doris cautiously looked at Lewis. After hesitating, she said, “I was heartbroken because of the income I would lose and the money I had to pay. Coming to the hospital is another expense. I’ve really had a bad day. So, I’m sorry, I made you misunderstand.”
Doris gave an apologetic look, with a careful, flattering expression. Even if Lewis was still a bit upset, it was gone now.
“Those things don’t matter as long as you’re fine,” Lewis said helplessly, his frustration melting into these words.
The doctor cleaned and treated Doris’s wounds and then prescribed some medication.
Lewis went to pay and get the medicine. Doris sat alone in the waiting area.
When he returned with the medicine, he walked up to Doris and said, “Let’s go home.”
“The doctor said it’s just a bit of scraped skin. It won’t affect my work.” It was only 2:30, and she could still make deliveries and earn back her losses.
“Doris Reed, Lewis called her by her full name.
“Hmm?” Doris responded obediently.

“Go home,” he repeated.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. You’ve already wasted so much time. You should hurry back to work,” Doris said with a smile.
Lewis chuckled, “Your body is yours. Do whatever you want with it.”
After that, Lewis placed the bag of medicine next to Doris and turned to leave.
In a panic, Doris reached out and grabbed his suit sleeve. ‘I know you’re worried about me, but I’m really fine now.”
“I’m busy with work. I don’t have time to waste here with you,” Lewis said, his gaze cold as it fell on her fingers gripping his sleeve.
Doris realized this and immediately let go of his sleeve.
Lewis glanced at Ivan before striding off.
Doris watched Lewis’s retreating figure, feeling that maybe she had been a bit ungrateful. But she wasn’t so delicate that she’d skip work over a small injury. She was just an ordinary person, and work was just a means of survival.
*Lewis just received an important call and had to rush back. He asked me to take you home.” Ivan picked up the medicine bag for Doris. “Let’s go.”
