Chapter 97
Chapter 97
Doris lowered her long lashes, trying to hide the panic in her eyes,
She thought, ‘If he found out that the “person” I like is actually Lola, would he be angry? Would he think I am deceiving him?‘
But that was exactly what she had done–she had lied to him, using it as an excuse to get him to divorce her.
She hesitated, debating whether to tell him the truth.
Opening her mouth, she hesitated again before saying, “I… actually…
“It’s fine. I don’t mind that you like him.” Lewis‘ deep, magnetic voice sounded in her ear.
Doris‘ lips twitched into a bitter smile. She thought, ‘Uh… okay, this misunderstanding has really snowballed.
Lewis stood up, walked to the corner, picked up a bouquet of flowers he had bought, and handed them to Doris. “For you.”
Doris‘ eyes lit up when she saw they were sunflowers–her favorite. “How did you know I like sunflowers?”
She was sure she had never told him.
“I guessed.” Lewis‘ expression seemed to scream: [I’m just that smart.]
“Thank you.” Doris held the bouquet, her fingers brushing against the soft petals.

This wasn’t the first time in her life she had received flowers. Ryan and her past admirers had given her plenty. But this was the first time Lewis had ever given her flowers, and it felt strangely different.
“I have something else for you.” Lewis reached into his pocket. “Close your eyes.”
Doris went confused. Still, she obediently closed her eyes, feeling a bit excited.
“One, two, three–open them now.” His deep, pleasant voice wrapped around her like silk.
Doris opened her eyes, and his strikingly handsome face was right in front of hers, hitting her with a visual shock.
She pressed herself against the back of the couch, trying to create some distance–but it was useless.
He stretched out a closed fist in front of her.
Then, he slowly opened it, revealing a small, shining object that reflected the cold gleam of metal.
Doris‘ gaze was drawn to the light, her eyes landing on his palm.
A necklace hung from his middle finger, its pendant dangling right in front of her.
She took a closer look–it was identical to the one Lola had given her.
“Did you buy this?” Even if it looked the same, it wasn’t the one Lola had given her. “You really didn’t have to.”
“Take another look.” Lewis shook the necklace.
“Is this my original one?” Doris was surprised.
She had searched for it for a long time but never found it, feeling both disappointed and regretful.

Chapter 97
“Let me put it on for you.” Lewis placed the necklace around her neck, adjusted the heart–shaped pendant, and fastened the clasp behind her.
Doris reached out to touch the pendant, and the knot in her heart unraveled.
“I was impulsive that night. I’m truly sorry.” Lewis lowered his noble head, admitting his mistake.
Doris stared at his serious expression and sincere gaze, knowing that he meant it.
“I accept your apology. I’ll forgive you this time, but don’t let it happen again,” Doris said generously.
Lewis simply stared at her, and she lifted her eyes to meet his gaze. For a moment, there was nothing to say.
Feeling a little nervous, Doris clutched the pendant and slowly spoke under his deep gaze. “There’s something I need to tell you.”
Lewis raised an eyebrow. “What is it?”
“It’s just what I said about this necklace being a gift from Lola was true.” Doris bit her lip. Seeing that his expression didn’t change, she continued, “But I don’t have someone I like. I lied to you. I only said that to make you agree to the divorce.”
She briefly explained the reason for the divorce.
“Doris, you’ve really got some nerve. Even I got fooled.” Lewis leaned forward, placing his hand on the back of the sofa behind her.
Doris felt the air pressure around her drop instantly.
“I was kept in the dark too.” She was a victim as well, okay? “Can we just let this go?”
“Since it’s your first offense, I’ll let it slide this time. But don’t do it again.” Lewis mimicked her tone.
Doris smiled with curved brows and eyes. “Alright.”
“You’re welcome,” Lewis smirked mischievously.
That smirk was heart–melting to Doris.
Doris said, “Mr. Hartman, you look very kissable like this.”
The next second, she pressed a kiss onto his soft lips, subconsciously.
Her eyes
now?‘
widened. She thought, ‘How could I be so shameless, throwing myself at him like this? How would Lewis see me
Doris shivered, quickly pulling away and stammered, “I… I don’t know what came over me. I’m sorry… I… I’m going back to my
room.”
She bent down, trying to escape from under Lewis‘ arm. But in the next second, Lewis grabbed her by the collar and pulled her back onto the sofa.
“Doris, it seems you’ve forgotten your lesson from last time.” Lewis narrowed his eyes dangerously.
Images of Lewis “teaching her a lesson” flashed through Doris‘ mind. “I… I was wrong.”
“Too late.”
“What do you want to do?”

Chapter 97
“Kisses need reciprocity. If I don’t reciprocate, it is impolite.”
Doris was speechless.
Lewis lowered his head and kissed Doris‘ lips.
Doris felt the warmth on her lips, watching herself melt and surrender until her mind went blank.
When Lewis finally pulled away, Doris was so embarrassed she couldn’t face him. She jumped up from the sofa, avoided his gaze, and dashed into her room.
With a loud sound, she shut the door. Doris leaned against the door, her heart pounding wildly, and her face burning.
She tried to steady her breathing as she walked to her bed and sat down. Her face was still burning hot.
Doris picked up a small mirror and saw that her fair face and ears were tinged with a shy pink. She raised her hand to touch her lips, where his warmth and breath still lingered….
‘Doris, get a grip, will you?‘ she thought.
The crisp sound of knocking interrupted Doris‘ thoughts. “What is it?” asked Doris.
“I’m heading out for a bit.”
“Oh, okay.”
“Doris, if you try to seduce me again, I won’t hold back. I don’t suffer losses.” Lewis‘ words were more smug than warning.
She refused to accept that. She thought she just lost control for a moment.
Doris stood up, walked to the door, and pulled it open. “You were the one who leaned in yourself.”
-Lewis braced his hand against the doorframe, leaning in close, his devastatingly handsome face approaching once again.
He even raised an eyebrow smugly, as if saying, “I’m getting closer–what can you do about it?”
Doris felt provoked, and her face heated up against her will. She shoved him away and quickly slammed the door shut. “Leave already! Don’t disturb my nap.”
Lewis looked at the closed door, the corners of his lips curling into a smirk.
Doris, hearing no further movement outside, finally walked to her bed and leaned against the headboard. She picked up a rabbit plushie and muttered to herself, “Lewis is such a jerk.”
