Chapter 6
When I returned home, I grabbed my suitcase and boarded a plane to Paris. Over the years, I had lost myself for Harrison’s sake. Now that he was out of my life, it was the perfect chance to relax and find myself again, without worrying about the wedding or my family.
When I was reborn, I had already laid everything out with my parents. They had never really approved of Harrison, so when they saw I’d finally come to my senses, they were fully supportive. My parents took care of informing relatives and friends. That very
afternoon, they went off on a honeymoon of their own.
As I looked out at the stars from the plane window, memories flickered by like scenes from a movie. We’d gone through so much together, yet every time we disagreed, Harrison would argue with me. Back then, I loved him so much that, even if I wasn’t in the wrong, I would
always be the one to apologize, eager to make things right.
Looking back now, a wave of sadness washed over me. My parents had warned me about him from the start, but I’d been the one desperately trying to smooth things over. They’d once told me, “You think he’s outstanding and family–oriented because your love for him makes everything look golden.” I’d been so blinded by love that I’d even argued with them. Now, thinking about it, I wanted to smack myself. I couldn’t even tell who was genuine and
who wasn’t.
The next day, I went to the Eiffel Tower, sipped coffee at its base, and took a lot of beautiful photos. At that moment, it felt like I’d found my true self again.
That evening, I decided to take a bath, and as I relaxed, I turned on my phone to call my parents and check in. Immediately, a flood of missed calls appeared–all from Harrison. Over eighty missed calls. In five years of dating, he’d never called this much. Before I could call my parents, Harrison’s call came through again.
I answered the call and began applying a face mask. Harrison’s voice exploded like a
grenade.
“Lydia, are you out of your mind?”
“Do you have any idea what today is? Where are your parents and relatives?”

“Do you know how humiliated I was today?”
“Say something!”
I calmly played with the brush in my hand, my voice cold.
“Harrison, isn’t this the gift you always wanted? Now I’ve granted it to you, so why aren’t you happy?”
Harrison pretended to be oblivious.
“Lydia, I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
I gave him a slight smile.
“We’re both adults. I’d rather not make this uglier than it needs to be. Consider this your final bit of dignity.”
“As for you and Cali, I wish you a lifetime of happiness together.”
Harrison panicked, his tone softening.
“Lydia, where are you? I’ll come to you right now!”
“Lydia, it’s not what you think. Let me explain!”
“You’re the only one I’ve ever loved!”
He started reminiscing about our past, speaking with such emotion and sincerity. At one
time, this would have thrilled me. But now, every word made me feel nauseous. The more
he went on, the more I wanted to throw up.
I didn’t let him finish.
“Harrison, for the sake of what we once had, let’s not make this harder on each other.”
“Let’s part ways amicably.“,
