Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I called my uncle, who was abroad. [
“Uncle, can you help me withdraw your shares in Weston’s company in a few days?”
The company was about to go public. If my uncle pulled out his investment now, Weston’s company would be finished.
“Did he bully you? I’ll go take care of it for you!” [|]
My uncle had spoiled me since I was little. Without asking for any details, he was ready to go confront Weston.
I forced a smile. [
“Uncle, I have to handle this myself.” |
My voice was choked with emotion, as if I might cry.
Worried that my uncle might be concerned, I quickly hung up the phone.
Weston was my senior.
Back in my first year of college, I was harassed by a few punks, and Weston stepped in. To protect me, he fought them off and got his head split open.
It was in that moment that I decided he was the one.
He was the first person in my life who was willing to fight for me like that.
So, in college, I chased after him for a long time, but he always turned me down.
Looking back now, I can’t help but feel embarrassed. []
It was precisely because he was so cold to me that I became more obsessed with him, thinking such a man was the most attractive.
Until after graduation, when his company went bankrupt and he owed millions.
During his hardest time, I stayed by his side, helping him through it until he finally got back on his feet.
Eventually, he agreed to be my boyfriend.
I begged my uncle to use our family resources to support him, helping him start his own business.
Five years later, the company was about to go public. [
And on the day the audit was approved, he proposed to me.
I thought we were finally going to have a happy ending. I
But I never expected he would betray me at the busiest time of my life.
Chapter 2
To him, I was just a tool to make money! []
If I had gone on blindly marrying him, he would have discarded me in a few years. [
I forced myself to swallow the disgust in my heart and downloaded all the humiliating videos of them onto my computer.
The next day, I didn’t go home but rented a hotel room for another month.
First thing in the morning, Weston sent me a message asking why I hadn’t come home yet. []
I replied that my flight was delayed and I’d go straight to the office.
I walked into the office in my high heels, and my team members were thrilled to see me. [
My closest colleague secretly messaged me, telling me that Mr. Martin had hired a new female assistant, who hadn’t gone through the proper hiring channels.
A female assistant who got in through the back door–who else could it be but her?
I handed out the souvenirs I had brought back from my trip to my team members and then walked straight to Weston’s office.
Sure enough, the assistant sitting outside his office had changed. Cecilia was sitting there, idly scrolling through her phone.
When she heard someone approaching, she didn’t even look up and said, “Mr. Martin’s in an online meeting. Come back in half an hour.” [
I sneered. “Cecilia, how did you manage to get in here?” ||
Hearing my voice, she immediately looked up, her face full of feigned innocence. “Why can’t I come in when my sister
can?”
Weston heard my voice and immediately rushed out of his office, pulling me inside.
“Wife, it’s not like this.” He comforted me, rubbing my shoulder. “Cecilia was arranged by her dad to join. How could I not listen to my father–in–law’s wishes?” |
“I know you and your father don’t get along, but we’re getting married soon. I want to see you walking down the aisle, holding your father’s hand as you marry me.” []
He acted so passionately, but unfortunately, he couldn’t deceive me anymore.
