Chapter 9
After this farce, my uncle and I booked plane tickets for the day after tomorrow to go abroad. []
That night, my uncle had to attend an impromptu meeting at the headquarters in a neighboring city.
I drove myself back to the hotel.
Just as I parked the car, a sudden force yanked me to the ground. []
Someone tightly covered my nose and mouth and then shoved me into a van without license plates.
I widened my eyes, struggling desperately, trying to scream for help.
But the drugged towel made me grow increasingly drowsy.
When I finally opened my eyes again, I found myself tied to a chair, surrounded by darkness.
I squinted, surveying the surroundings, feeling like I was in some abandoned building.
I realized I had been kidnapped.
Then, the door opened, and two familiar faces appeared.
Cecilia was wearing a tattered wedding dress, her hair a mess.
Weston had a rough beard, and his wedding suit was in tatters, making him look like a homeless man. []
When he saw me wake up, Weston gave me a vicious smile.
“Everlee, you’ve ruined my life.”
“In one night, I lost everything, and now I have to go back to living in debt.” []
“You won’t give me a way out? Well, neither will you.” []
I tried to move my body, but I was tied too tightly, and the tape over my mouth prevented me from speaking.
“Now, I’m going to call your uncle for money.”
Weston looked at me coldly, picked up my phone, and dialed my uncle’s number. []
“Mr. Wright, Everlee is in my hands now. You received the video I sent, right?” |
“Don’t you care about your niece? How much do you value her? Give me a hundred million, and I’ll see your sincerity.” [
The speakerphone was on, and I could clearly hear my uncle’s breathing become hurried. []
“I need to hear Everlee’s voice first, to confirm her condition.” []
Though my uncle’s tone remained calm, there was a noticeable tremor in his voice. [

Chapter 9
Cecília, crazed, laughed manically and walked over, grabbing my hair and pulling my face close to Weston.
The pain made me whimper in agony.
“How much do you want? Let her go, and I’ll transfer the money to you immediately.” []
Hearing my voice, my uncle immediately shouted out in response.
A chill ran down my spine.
“Uncle, don’t be foolish!” []
If you agree so easily, they will only take advantage of you more. Don’t you understand?
Where did all the game theory you taught me go?
Sure enough, they exchanged a look and started raising their demands. [
“We’ve changed our minds. Now we want two hundred million, Uncle.” []
“Have the money and a car ready in four hours. Come alone, and deliver it to this address. No police!”
I could hear my uncle’s labored breath. [
“Fine, but I want to see her in person.” [
Four hours later, my uncle really showed up alone. [
His eyes were bloodshot, and when he saw me, he slowly began to calm down.
But Weston, after receiving the money, didn’t release me. []
Instead, he forced my uncle to kneel, locked us in the same room, and started a fire. [
“I’m not letting you go. You two wanted to see your sister and mother so badly? Tonight, you’ll join her down there!” []
The fire grew larger.
