Chapter 10
Seeing Weston losing control, I couldn’t hold back my tears.
My uncle, however, remained calm, shielding me with his body. []
“Don’t be afraid, the police are already here.” []
Would we be able to hold on until then?
Before Weston got into the car, he flashed a sinister smile and shoved Cecilia out harshly. []
“And you, you bitch, don’t think I don’t know you were with me for the money! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be here killing anyone!” [
Cecilia, driven by her will to survive, lunged at Weston without hesitation and bit down on his arm. []
In the ensuing struggle, the ropes binding my uncle and me were burned through by the flames. []
In the thick smoke, he covered my nose and mouth, carrying me in a stumbling rush to escape.
A burning wooden door slammed heavily into him, and I heard him grunt in pain.
My heart tightened, and I wanted to open my eyes to check on him, but my consciousness was growing fainter.
The next time I awoke, the strong smell of disinfectant filled my nostrils. [
We had been taken to the hospital, but luckily, neither my uncle nor I had sustained any serious injuries.
A month later, I heard that Cecilia had been seriously injured during the struggle and was pushed into the fire by Weston, where she perished.
Weston was sent to prison, with no possibility of ever getting out.
My father would occasionally check on my life, reaffirming his loyalty to me. [
He claimed he had never regarded Cecilia as his daughter, and he had divorced her mother.
Weston’s parents also called, hoping I would still be their daughter–in–law.
I never answered their calls again.
These people no longer mattered to me.

At that time, the overseas branch had seen a 135% growth compared to the previous year, becoming the new star of the Wright Group’s European division.
For the first time, I experienced the joy of receiving bonuses in abundance. [
More importantly, I gained the recognition and respect of everyone. [
I was no longer anyone’s subordinate; I would become a leader who could rival my uncle.

Chapter 10
In the future, I would inherit my family business and become the new generation of leaders.
I would never again compromise my power and career for love. []
My uncle personally opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate my success. []
“Everlee, with you in the company, your uncle can retire.”
I took the glass from his hand and clinked it gently with his.
“No, uncle. You still have to stay with me for five more years.”
Five years, the ambition Weston once dreamed of. []
I would achieve it alone.]
