Love Story7- Chapter 1
I was listening to a subordinate’s report when Sylvia Smith, the friend who had vanished for half a year, suddenly burst through my office door, her head held high. As soon as she walked in, I noticed her rounded belly and couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. “Didn’t you say you were retreating overseas for six months? What’s going on with… your belly?”
Sylvia shot me a scornful look. “Hah, if you knew who fathered this child, you’d be envious. After all, this is the child you’ve spent years trying to have and never got.”
I was too stunned to respond, even forgetting to ask my employees to leave. Sylvia made herself comfortable on the sofa and said, “No need to pretend. I’m pregnant with your husband’s son, and I’m here to make sure you and Jeffrey Davis get divorced. I can’t let my child be an illegitimate one without a father, and you’d better forget about adopting my son and staying on as the ‘main wife.”
She flashed–a smile. “You always pride yourself on your kindness; surely you won’t refuse, right?”
Instinctively, I shook my head. “Impossible. This joke isn’t even funny.”
Sylvia didn’t seem to care about the people still in the room; perhaps she thought her actions were worth bragging about. In her view, it wasn’t shameful to snatch my husband–the one who should feel humiliated was me.
Seeing my reaction, Sylvia laughed even harder, practically doubling over. “You didn’t actually think Jeffrey was madly in love with you, did you? Love is like the wind; today it blows toward you, and tomorrow it blows toward me. And you, all alone, while I’ve got someone by my side.”
I continued to shake my head, unsure of how to respond. It wasn’t that I trusted Jeffrey completely; it was because Jeffrey physically couldn’t have a child. He was born sterile, incapable of fathering a child
