Chapter 6 Ignorance
Barrett was shocked. “Margaret quit school at 16?” he wondered.
People in Barrett’s circle really admired Alice, not just for her looks, but also because she had been a straight–A student since she was a kid and had a top–notch education. She was a top from a first–class university, and nobody in Miami’s high society could match her.
be a great match for Samson.
only relied on her beauty was going nowhere. Beauty plus education was the winning combination. The higher the social class, the more they valued a girl’s education.
Just now, Barrett’s slight interest in Margaret was completely gone. There was a hint of disdain in his voice as he said, “Margaret, did you really quit school at 16?”
Margaret looked at the proud Alice and smiled casually, “Yes, I did quit school at 16.”
Barrett said, “What a coincidence! Samson also quit school at 16. But he’s a real genius. He got dual master’s degrees from Cambridge University at 16, which was a big deal. You, on the other hand, quit at 16 and didn’t even finish high school.”
Barrett laughed out loud.
Alice was distant and arrogant.
Everyone looked down on Margaret.
Samson stood tall with his long legs, the light from the corridor highlighting his handsome and detached face as he looked at Margaret.
Over the past three years, Margaret had been a housewife, centered around him. It wasn’t unusual for her to lack an education.
Margaret showed no signs of embarrassment or hesitation. In fact, her clear, bright eyes met his and she smiled gracefully, “Yes, it’s quite a coincidence.”
Yeah, it was really a coincidence.
Before he knew it, Samson felt a little flutter in his heart.
He noticed Margaret’s eyes were truly beautiful, full of vitality.
“Maggie!” Jordyn called out just then, noticing Alice looking really mad. “Alice, did you bully Maggie again?”
Alice replied proudly, “We didn’t bully Margaret. We even wanted to help her find a job.”
Jordyn was taken aback. “You found a job for Maggie?”
Alice kept being kind. “Yes, even though Margaret doesn’t have a diploma or a degree, we’ll do our best to find her a good job.”
Words failed Jordyn.
Jordyn laughed in anger,
“Do you even know who Maggie is? Maggie is…”
Margaret grabbed Jordyn’s arm and said, “Jordyn, let’s go.”
Jordyn didn’t say anything more, but gave Alice a mocking look and said, “There will come a day
when you’ll be proven wrong!”
Jordyn left with Margaret.

Barrett snapped, “What does Margaret mean? How can someone who quit school at 16 be so full of herself? If I were her, I’d be too embarrassed to show my face.”
Alice wasn’t upset. She had never really paid attention to Margaret, and Margaret wasn’t even in her league.
Getting mad at Margaret just meant lowering her standards.
Alice looked at Barrett and smiled, “Barrett, forget it. Ignorance is bliss.”
Barrett said, “Samson, you should divorce Margaret right away. She’s not good enough for you.”
Samson’s face was unreadable. He looked at Alice and said, “Let’s go.”
Alice nodded. “Okay.”
Alice and Barrett left with Samson.

As they were leaving the bar, someone called out, “Mr. Hawthorne!”
Samson looked up and was surprised to see an acquaintance, Zay Kent, the principal of Cambridge University.
Samson walked over and asked, “Mr. Kent, what brings you to Miami?”
Alice had great respect for Zay. Even though she had been doing great in school since she was little, she hadn’t yet qualified to get into a top university like Cambridge University.
Zay smiled, “Mr. Hawthorne, I’m in Miami for a seminar. It’s a coincidence that your junior is here too.”
Samson paused for a moment and said, “My junior?”
Zay replied, “Yes, there are two legends at Cambridge University. The first is Samson, and the second is your junior. Like you, she got a dual degree at 16. She’s really smart and talented. Unfortunately, you two missed each other by a few years, so you don’t know her.
Barrett looked curious and said, “Wow, is Samson’s junior that amazing? Who’s more impressive, her or Samson?”
Zay smiled at Samson, “They are both impressive.”
Samson raised his eyebrows. He hadn’t met a girl who could match him yet.
Alice had never heard about Samson having a genius junior who was his match. She didn’t have any hard feelings toward Margaret, but this smart girl suddenly got under her skin.
She wondered who this girl was.
Alice felt a deep sense of rivalry and jealousy.
Zay took out his phone and said, “Mr. Hawthorne, I’ve given you her WhatsApp number. Please add her when you can. She’s in Miami too. As her senior, please look out for her.”
Samson nodded and said, “Okay.”
Zay left, and Barrett urged, “Samson, quickly add her on WhatsApp. I want to see what she looks like.”
Samson pulled out his phone and opened his junior’s WhatsApp.
The WhatsApp username was just one letter: M.

The background was white.
Barrett asked, “What does this ‘M‘ mean?”
Menu
Samson didn’t know either. He clicked “Add Friend” and added a note saying “Samson Hawthorne“.
It was verifying over there, and it hadn’t gone through yet.
Barrett was really excited. “Samson, when you add her, introduce her to me. I’ll be in awe of her.”
Alice was unhappy when she noticed their attention was all on this girl. Just then, a Rolls–Royce pulled up, and Samson’s personal secretary, Robert Cobb, arrived.
Alice immediately ended this little episode. “Samson, the car is here. Let’s get in.” Barrett said, “Samson, Ally, goodbye.”
***
The Rolls–Royce smoothly glided down the road. Inside the quiet, luxurious cabin, Robert, sitting in the driver’s seat, respectfully asked Samson in the back seat through the rearview mirror, “Mr. Hawthorne, where are we going?”
Samson said, “To the company.”
Alice looked at Samson. The neon lights of the city at night shone through the polished car window, casting a glow on his handsome face, like scenes from black and white films, elegant and mysterious.
Alice’s eyes sparkled with affection. “Samson, what’s up with you and Margaret? Did you suddenly find her attractive and want to get involved with her?”
Samson glanced at Alice and casually said, “She’s my wife. It’s normal for things to happen. Didn’t you push her towards me?”
Alice knew he was still blaming her.
He blamed her for leaving him when he was in a vegetative state three years ago and running off abroad, forcing Margaret to marry in her place.
Alice wanted to defend herself. “Samson, it was Margaret who insisted on marrying you. I could only give you up to her…”
Samson asked, “Do you believe this yourself?”
Words failed Alice.
She bit her lip and angrily said, “I left you three years ago. If you’re bothered by that, let’s break up. If you don’t want me, it’s fine.”
Alice said to Robert, “Robert, stop the car!”
Alice wanted to get out of the car.
But Samson’s grip was firm, his strong fingers reaching out to snatch her slender wrist. With a tug, Alice bumped right into his broad chest.
From above, Samson’s voice echoed with a hint of helplessness and indulgence. “Alice, you’re doing this just because I spoil you.”
