Chapter 2
But the next day, I ran into him at the hospital.
“Get someone! Doctor! Is there a doctor here?”
“Get out of the way! Doctor! Where’s the doctor?”
Eden’s brothers were causing quite a scene; from a distance, I could see a chaotic crowd.
When Eden was brought in, he was unconscious.
right hand had been pierced by a knife, with multiple penetrating wounds.
When I asked what happened, no one spoke.
They looked at me, hesitating to say anything.
“Who did this?”
I picked up my phone to call the police, but Tom Robinson held my hand
“Rita… it was… it was big brother who hurt himself.”
down.
As soon as he finished speaking, the TV beside us played a news report about Eden, the great artist.
In the footage, Eden was kneeling on the ground, stabbing his own hand repeatedly.
Blood dripped from the blade, pooling on the floor.
Seeing this, the thugs finally backed off.
And Eden kept wiping his right hand, which was marked with destructive wounds, not wanting to let a single drop of blood touch Elma.
In the end, he covered Elma with his jacket
and
carried her out.
Throughout it all, Elma never showed her face.
All the early news reports
stated that
Eden was
But that person was not me.
Those who watched the news all gasped
One, in awe of Eden’s ruthlessness.
Two, praising Eden’s love.
“Dr. Funk, you have a package.”
I turned to take the package, and the person reminded me,
“Oh, Dr. Funk, the sender asked you to sign quickly.”
“Okay.”
After signing, the two of them straightened their postures.
Eden Robinson smiled at me, “What’s in the package?”
“What does it have to do with you? I don’t need to report to you about a package I bought, do I?”
The temperature in the room had dropped to freezing point.

Elma Wallace walked over to me in her high heels.
“Um… Rita, please don’t be angry. Yesterday was… just an accident.”
“I had a bit too much to drink yesterday and was harassed by a few men. I don’t have many friends here…”
As she spoke, Elma’s hand had already rested on my wrist.
I shook her off, and Elma looked at Eden with a wronged expression.
“That’s disgusting. Don’t touch me.”
Elma’s face turned pale, and she raised her hand to hit me.
strained her hand with one hand and slapped her with the other.
Eden panicked, yanked out the IV, and clumsily climbed off the bed.
“Rita!”
“Rita, you’re a doctor!”
“I’m also your girlfriend.”
Eden hurriedly helped Elma up, and the bandage on his right hand began to seep blood.
“Eden… it’s okay.”
Eden turned to grab my hand, “You value your job, but if a doctor gets reported for hitting someone,
what do
you think…”
I had never thought Eden would pressure me like this one day.
But he miscalculated.
I was getting married, and I had already resigned from my job.
Today was my last shift.
To be precise, after I finished that surgery, my
work was done.
I took off my ID badge and handed it to Eden, “Then go ahead and report me.”
Back at home, I grabbed my already packed luggage.
I took one last look at the place I had lived for three years.
I answered Eden’s last call.
“I just wanted you to apologize to Elma, not force you to resign! Where are you?”
“At home.”
Eden paused, “I’ll be away for a few days. When I come back, I’ll explain everything, okay?”
I hung up the phone and blocked all of Eden’s contact information.
I didn’t need to think; Elma was getting married.
He was going to her.
I booked the soonest flight, and along the way, I thought about a lot.
Eden I won’t wait for you anymore.
After landing, Lewis Titus personally came to pick me up.

“I didn’t expect you to agree.”
Lewis took my hand and led me to the car.

I had been with Eden for three years, but Lewis had been proposing to me for four.
They said it was love at first sight when we graduated from college,
“I knew you were coming to marry me, and I was so excited that I couldn’t sleep for three days.*
Lewis took me to try on wedding dresses.
Our wedding was set for a very auspicious date.
the past few days, Cliveland had been drenched in rain, non–stop for half a month.
Only on our wedding day, the sky was clear.
It truly was a good day.
Though the wedding was rushed, it was grand.
On Triumph Avenue, rose–red walls rose on either side.
The wedding procession approached us from the front.
“Up ahead is Lewis Titus’s convoy.”
“I’ve never heard of Lewis dating anyone.”
“Tsk, don’t pry into the Titus family’s affairs. Go down and greet him, and switch bouquets for good luck
The voices from the opposite side weren’t loud, but I heard every word.
I glanced at Lewis, who comfortingly patted the back of my hand.
What I didn’t expect was to see Eden in that place.
