Chapter 4
Cadog Brown didn’t come home,
I lay in bed, feeling empty inside, yet oddly relieved.
But when I saw the bouquet of roses on the nightstand, wilting more and more, a sharp pain tugged at my heart.
Cadog kept calling, his calls lighting up my phone screen again and again, only to fade back to darkness.
It seemed like he was determined to make me pick up.
ww irritated with the noise and simply took out the SIM card.
Even if I answered, what would we talk about?
About Ausra Clark?
Or about the baby she was carrying?
There was nothing left for us to talk about.
Diva-
I blinked in surprise, and then I saw Cadog’s figure outside, standing in the rain below the window.
He opened his mouth to say something, but just then, a thunderclap split the air, drowning out his words.
Raindrops began to tap against the window, while Cadog stubbornly stood there, letting the rain soak him to the skin.
I silently watched him.
He would eventually regain his memory.
When that moment came, what would I do?
One round of pain was enough.
AI struggled internally, the rain grew heavier.
Cadog stood in the rain, motionless.
Before my brain could process the decision, my body acted on its own.
I hurriedly threw on my pajamas, not even bothering to put on shoes, and rushed downstairs.
Another thunderclap echoed above.
My thoughts were a jumbled mess, but my steps didn’t falter.
Finally, I saw Cadog’s red–rimmed eyes through the rain.
His face was pale with cold, yet he still smiled at me, the same bright, familiar smile I had always known.
“Diva.”
Itis yoice trembled as he moved toward me, inching through the rain.
I raised the umbrella and rushed to his side. He collapsed against me weakly.
“I’m sorry, Diva. You must think I’m disgusting now.”
“I was so foolish, thinking that if I tried hard enough, you’d start liking me again.”

“Now I spe, staying by your side is only causing you more discomfort and disgust.”
Cadog was shaking all over, and I instinctively took his hand in mine.
The same hand he used to reach for me, now pulled away as if he had been burned.
“I’m too dirty,”
I froze for a moment when I heard those words, and suddenly, the vague thoughts in my mind became painfully clear.
The man in front of me was my Cadog.
The one who, unable to give me a better life, had curled up in guilt and cried.
yone who always joked around, trying to make me laugh.
The one whose eyes were full of me, who just wanted to stick close to me.
It was him. It was really him.
At that moment, Cadog took a deep breath, as if making a final decision.
He closed his eyes, and the rain mixed with his tears.
“I’m sorry.”
“I won’t bother you anymore.”
I heard him say.
Suddenly, all I could hear was the soft patter of rain.
Cadog turned and began to walk into the downpour.
I wanted to chase after him, but my feet felt as if they were nailed to the ground, unable to move.
This is it, I told myself. This is the end. We can both still preserve some dignity.
What could I do if I caught up with him?
I fouldn’t forget the pain he had caused me, but I also couldn’t bear to
watch him stumble through the rain, so weak and sickly.
Cadog staggered, his body swaying as he stumbled, finally collapsing to the ground.
Before I could reach him, someone else shouted first.
“Cadog-!”
Ausra Clark hurried over and helped him up.
I froze, taking a deep breath, watching helplessly as Cadog got into the car.
Before getting in, Ausra glanced back at me.
After they drove off, I noticed something glinting on the ground.
I walked over and saw that it was a ring.
Unlike the diamond–studded ones that would come later, this one was a simple band.
At the time, we didn’t have enough money, so we couldn’t afford an engagement ring.
But Cadog, unwilling to let me feel deprived, had spent his last bit of money on a simple gold band.
He had said, “I’ll buy you many rings in the future, one for each finger. How does th
