The light from outside filtered through the cracks in the curtains.
I squinted slightly, my head pounding.
I moved instinctively, only to find that I was trapped by a strong arm.
Suddenly, I snapped awake and turned, panic rising in my chest as I looked at Alex, still sleeping peacefully beside me.
His slightly fluttering eyelashes cast faint shadows across the contours of his face.
Looked stunning.
I can’t believe I slept with a man I’ve never met!
My phone buzzed on the nightstand, interrupting my thoughts.
I picked it up to see a message from John:
[You weren’t in your dorm last night?]
Isat up and typed back:
[What’s it to you?]
[What’s it to me?]
[Zoe, even if you’re not my girlfriend, my family has done so much for you. Can you really treat me like this with a clear conscience?]
I was so angry I almost laughed. I was about to reply when, without warning, my phone was snatched out of my hands.
Alex had woken up at some point and, without hesitation, pressed the voice message button.
“She’s busy, and her conscience doesn’t work like that. Don’t bother her if it’s nothing important,” his voice was clear, cold, and commanding.
I froze, stunned by his words.
Without any further explanation, Alex pulled me into his arms, his head resting lazily on my shoulder.
In a soft, almost playful tone, he murmured, “Zoe, don’t listen to that guy, okay? He made you cry, and I don’t like it.”
A warm current washed over me.
I had no idea what Alex meant, but considering our current relationship, it seemed too intimate for comfort.
I cleared my throat and whispered, “Did Hannah give you any money yesterday?”
He stiffened slightly, and there was an unreadable look in his eyes.
Finally, he smiled and said, “Yeah, she did.”
“Oh, that’s fine, then. Well, I’m off now… we should… oh no, let’s hang out again sometime!”
Before he could respond, I bolted from the bed.
