Chapter 13
་་
It was a few months later when I ran into John and Olivia again.
I had accompanied Alex to an e–sports tournament at the school next door, where he was the core player on his team.
Seated in the center, his handsome face attracted a lot of teenage fans.
“Wow! Did you see that? Sitting in the middle is the new heartthrob from the next school, Alex!”
“He’s way better–looking than that John guy from before,”
tally, definitely!”
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but feel a little pleased, almost like they were talking about my boyfriend.
“Hey, beautiful, is it possible to add me on WhatsApp?”
At some point, a guy had appeared next to me.
I was about to turn him down when I felt a figure step between us:
“Sorry, my girlfriend isn’t available for that.”
It was Alex, who had somehow made his
way
off the stage.
My face flushed red, and the guy walked off in a huff.
Alex turned to me, and I teased him, “Since when did I become your girlfriend?”
He reached out to gently ruffle my hair, a smile playing at the corner of his lips:
“I was just helping you out. By the way, you got any water? I’m thirsty.”
I handed him a bottle of water, but before I knew it, someone grabbed it.
The person opened it and drank it all in one go.
oe, your water still tastes the best,”
John said, tossing the empty bottle to Olivia behind him.
She looked exhausted, with dark circles under her eyes, no longer the radiant beauty she once was.
“What’s your problem?”
I snapped at John.
He shrugged nonchalantly, “Just drank your bottle of water, didn’t you used to give it to me all the time?”
“Well, that was then, and this is now,”
I shot back, not letting him get away with it.
A shadow of despondency flickered in his eyes, but it quickly vanished.
He didn’t say anything else and walked off toward the stage.
