Chapter 10
Piotr opened his mouth, but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to speak.
As I turned to leave, Piotr called out:
“Leila Hall, you must be happy.”
I glanced at Itai and smiled.
My phone rang, and I answered it.
oodbye, Piotr.” He forced a bitter smile.
“Alright, we both need to be happy.”
A month after our wedding, Grandpa passed away. In his final moments, he tightly held our hands, asking Itai to take care of me.
Itai promised again and again before Grandpa finally let go, closing his eyes.
After handling Grandpa’s affairs, Itai pulled out a small book and tucked it into my pocket.
Hooked at him in confusion, and he embraced me, whispering in my ear:
“Now that Grandpa’s matters are settled, isn’t it time to plan our honeymoon?”
I let out a small laugh. “Sure, when should we leave?”
While lounging on a beach chair, I suddenly heard someone shouting that someone had fallen into the water and couldn’t swim.
I recognized the figure struggling in the water. Without hesitation, I dove in and swam toward them. As I entered the water, a memory flashed in my mind.
At my eighteenth birthday party, someone had been pushed into the swimming pool. The boy, over six feet tall, was clearly terrified of water and couldn’t swim.
Everyone stood by the pool, laughing, yet no one stepped forward to help.
I hoved the onlookers aside and dove into the pool, pulling the boy to safety.
The parents arrived just then and scolded the pranksters.
I dragged Itai up onto the beach and laughed.
“Itai, so you were the poor, helpless soul in the water, huh?”
Itai chuckled. “Yeah, that was me. And you were my hero who came to save me. Now you understand, right? My feelings for you were never about falling for you at first sight. It was all part of a plan from the start.”
Years later, when our children asked how we met, Itai would always tell them this story.
“Your mom was my hero. She saved me for a lifetime.”
