Chapter 7
I smiled.
“Mr. Beard, I’m very touched by what Jason has done for me, but I don’t like him.”
When I said this, I saw Tim Bronte breathe a sigh of relief, while Jason’s eyes filled with mist. He took a few steps back.
“Father, I…”
Jason tried to speak, but Mr. Beard looked at him.
is is for you. Let’s just treat this as if it never happened. I only have a union with Aurora Field, not a marriage of love.”
When I heard this, I froze for a moment, but quickly regained my composure and lowered my head.
“I understand, Father. Can I have a few words alone with her?”
Jason and I went into a separate room. He looked at me for a long time but didn’t speak.
Just when I thought he wouldn’t say anything, Jason spoke in a tentative tone, asking quietly,
Tracy, can I hold you?”
I nodded.
Jason embraced me, and I could feel him trembling.
“Tracy… maybe you really don’t believe me, but I’ve truly fallen in love with you…”
“Thank you, but we can’t be together.”
I heard Jason cry. His voice was faint, but I didn’t bring it up.
I left with Tim Bronte. On our way out, I suddenly said to him,
“Tim, thank you.”
“Tracy, don’t mention it. I’ve already booked a restaurant…”
“Tim, you know… we…”
I hesitated but finally said it.
“I know, Tracy. You don’t like me.”
Tim interrupted me, smiling as he said it. The smile at the corner of his mouth was somewhat forced.
“I know, you won’t stay. But I still want to ask you, during this half month, didn’t you feel anything for me?”
He looked at me, no longer with the same indifferent attitude he had before.
“No.”
After dinner with Tim, we left, and he personally saw me off to the airport.
When I boarded the plane, I saw everything shrinking smaller and smaller.
My new life was about to begin.
You’re laughing?”
I looked at her.
“I could tell a long time ago that your relationship with Jason Beard wasn’t ordinary, but I didn’t expect it to come to this.”
Aurora Field looked at me, and her smile faded.
“Tracy Sapir, you’re the most impressive woman I’ve ever seen. You managed to win Jason’s heart in five years.”
iss Field, you flatter me, but if I had the choice, I wouldn’t want things to turn out like this.”
I didn’t argue with her.
“Then why don’t you just marry him? He’s done so much for you.”
I was stunned when I heard this, looking at her.
“What did you say?”
“He likes you. Back then, he publicly canceled his engagement for you, even compensating several billion. Over the past half month, I’ve gone to him many times, telling him that if he changes his mind and wants to marry me, I wouldn’t mind. I’d pretend like it never happened.”
Aurora Field said this matter–of–factly.
“But he refused.”
I quietly listened to her words.
“But I don’t want to marry him.”
I lifted my head, smiling as I spoke.
“I just want to live alone and peacefully.”
I stayed in Jason’s estate, neither eating nor drinking. Jason stopped going to the office and simply watched me.
“Tracy Sapir, are you trying to force me into a corner?”
“You’re overthinking it. I don’t have the guts to force you to do anything.”
I replied truthfully, raising my hand to shield my eyes from the bright sunlight.
“Tracy, you know I don’t want things to be this way between us. Just say something. No matter what you say, I’ll agree to it, I just want us to go back to- the way things were.”
When I heard this, I laughed and turned to look at him.
“Go back to the way things were? Is that when you used to deceive me every day? When I was your secret lover, watching you marry someone else and I couldn’t leave? I’d be a secret lover for the rest of my life?”
Jason turned his head when he saw my smile.
“You know that’s not what I meant.”
“But that’s exactly what we were like, wasn’t it? To outsiders, I was just your secretary.”
I turned back and continued to look at the sun outside.
“Let me go, Jason. You know I want to leave.”
“This is not negotiable.”

Jason’s voice was hoarse as he repeated,
“Only this, is not negotiable.”
I didn’t eat anything, which made Jason frantic. He even tried to force–feed me, but I just spat it out.
“I won’t eat.”
“Tracy! Stop doing this! Are you trying to starve yourself to death? Even if you do this, I won’t let you go back to Tim Bronte!”
I didn’t respond, only staring out the window.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door.
me in!”
Jason sounded impatient.
The person outside came in, glanced at us, and hesitated before saying,
“Mr. Wilson, Tim Bronte is here.”
When I heard that name, I looked at him.
“Is it Tim Bronte?”
Jason’s face darkened.
“I can’t believe he actually came.”
I stood up, ready to go out, but Jason quickly pinned me back in place.
“Don’t move. You’re not allowed to go out.”
Jason went out alone. I heard shouting between the two men.
“Jason, I’ve already told your father about this. If you don’t release Tracy, he’ll come after you.”
“Tim Bronte! Tracy likes me! No matter what you do, she’ll always be with me!”
She doesn’t like you anymore! Jason, let her go. Being with you, she’ll only suffer more!”
The argument went on, and I finally went downstairs. Just as I reached the landing, someone appeared at the door. I had seen him before–Jason’s
father.
He stood there, and no one dared to speak. Both Jason and Tim Bronte turned to him.
“Father.”
“Mr. Beard.”
Jason’s father gave me a brief look before walking toward me. Jason panicked.
“Father! This has nothing to do with her!”
“Shut up.”
Mr. Beard shot a glance at Jason, and Jason fell silent, only giving me a reassuring look.
“Youre Tracy Sapir?”
He asked as he looked at me.
I nodded.
“Mr. Beard, that’s me.”

“Do you know what my son has done for you?”
Mr. Beard’s gaze was firm, not angry but full of authority.
“I know.”
I answered truthfully, without hiding anything.
Jason watched me, his eyes full of anxiety.
“Then tell me, do you like him? Just say it, and don’t worry about anything else.”
When Mr. Beard asked, I froze for a moment. Jason’s eyes were filled with emotions that threatened to overflow.
don’t.”
