Chapter 18
Julius anger began to rise again after he heard this question and he gripped his cutlery so hard that they looked like they
might bend.
Cynthia was asking this question on purpose, was Whitney’s first thought.
By this time. Cynthia already knew that she was not allowed to step out of the house, so there was no way she could work at
all
But Whitney didn’t show any annoyance on her face and even patted Julius‘ hand under the table to tell him not to get
She put her cutlery down and kept a hand on Julius‘ as she leaned back in her chair lazily so that she could look straight at Cynthia. She smiled and said, “Well, I just got my Bachelor’s degree from Hopskin University in Mondholme, so I’ve learnt. everything about film directing, plus some modules on math, stilistics, mass communication, public relations, sociology. computing, as well as photography, fine arts, screenwriting, recording, and publishing among other things. I’ve also learned the basics of other fields like operations management, marketing human resources, psychology and law
“I’ve just returned to the country and haven’t found a job yet. Do you have any good recommendations for me?” said Whitney with a big smile on her face, but her large and beautiful eyes were emotionless and the look in her eyes could even make one shudder in fear.
She had used her most polite tone of voice to brag about her achievements.
Everyone gasped when they heard her rattle off everything she had studied.
They had assumed that someone with Whitney’s looks was probably nothing more than a pretty face who had to rely on a man to get by.
Cynthia had thought that way too. But,reality turned out to be so different.
Jacqueline felt so proud to have Whitney as her daughter–in–law after she heard Whitney list all the things she studied.
She had been wondering why Julius had suddenly gone from being a single man who didn’t seem interested in a relationship at all to becoming a husband. This young lady he married was truly outstanding after all.
Also, the way Whitney had handled Cynthia’s question so calmly also impressed her.
Whitney looked so meek and was as obedient as a kitten next to Julius, but once she was put in a difficult situation, she knew how to extend her claws and defend herself. That was truly impressive.
Jacqueline looked at her emotionless looking son and suddenly felt like he wasn’t good enough for Whitney.
Cynthia’s original intention was to put Whitney onthe spot and make the family despise her, but she ended up failing and instead made the family respect Whitney even more.
Adding insult to injury. Jacqueline became even more pleased with this daughter–in–law of hers, making Cynthia look bad in comparison.
Julius was also surprised as he looked at Whitney. He never knew that his wife was so outstanding
Cynthia’s expression slowly went from surprise to frustration and eventually to helplessness.
“Whitney… It took Cynthia a lot of effort to stop herself from tearing her hypocritical mask off and it took her a long time to find the right words to say.

But before Cynthia could say more, Julius cut her off, “We’ve already told you that Whitney is my wife. Since you are my younger sister, then, you’d better learn how to show her some repect. Otherwise, it’s better that you don’t say anything at
all.”
He glanced at Cynthia with disdain and she felt like he might se her on the spot.
After Julius‘ repeated defense of Whitney, the rest of the family ould see that Whitney’s position as his wife was practically
cast in stone.
The rest of the meal carried on without any interruptions afterat,
Once they were done with lunch, Julius walked towards the main door with Whitney. She looked up at him and asked a little hesitantly, “Are we going back now?”
“Yes, we’re leaving now. If we don’t go back now, my parents are going to insist that I stay the night,” said Julius with a sigh.
And just as he had predicted, they had just taken two steps towards the door when they heard Jacqueline’s voice from behind, Julius! Come over here.”
Julius stopped in his footsteps, gave a little sigh, then walked back towards his mother.
“Yes?” Julius sounded resigned as if he had decided to give up fighting his mother,
“Are you going off now?” asked Jacqueline.
“Yes, I need to attend to some matters at the office, lied Julius.
While it was true that there were some outstanding matters he had to attend to, he didn’t have to attend to them right now.
“Tsk, using the company as an excuse? Why do we bother spending so much money paying the salaries of directors and managers if the CEO has to do all the work?” grumbled Jacqueline.
“Mom, stop being so unreasonable.” Every time Julius tried to leave the house, his mother would come up with a million and one reasons for why he ought to stay.
“Oh, forget it. I know I can’t make you stay. You’re always like that
Julius thought that he was finally able to escape his mother, but the next thing she said floored him. “Fine. You can go but my daughter–in–law shall stay.”
“Me?” Whitney was equally baffled.
“That’s right. You stay and chat with me.”
Julius clutched his forehead. So, he was worthless now that his mother had a new daughter–in–law? What a tragedy! “Wait, come to think of it, I’ve already settled that matter,” he quickly added. He wasn’t going anywhere without Whitney,
Jacqueline sighed disappointedly and said in a reluctant voice, “Aww, I was looking forward to having a nice chat with my daughter–in–law.”
Julius couldn’t believe his mother. So much for thinking she was sincere in asking him to stay.
Since they had decided to stay the night, Julius brought Whitney to his old room in the house,
This estate was designed like a village, so every member of the family got their own little house and garden. Each house was fully furnished and equipped with all essentials.

Chapter 18
“Do you want to go back to my room or do you want me to bring you around?” As they walked towards his room, he noticed. that Whitney seemed very curious about her surroundings.
Ever since they got married, he seldom saw her take an interest in anything, besides her new interest in him.
“Ooh! Can we do that?” Whitney was clearly referring to the latter option.
“Of course. This is our house now, so we can go anywhere we want,” said Julius as he continued strolling down the small and quiet path that went around the estate.
“When we grow old, we ought to buy a place like this. Then, we can enjoy our old age like Mom and Dad,” remarked Whitney very casually. But this casual remark of hers made Julius very excited inside because she was talking about a future with him.
That meant that she really wanted to grow old with him.
But while they were enjoying their relaxing walk around the house, someone else wasn’t enjoying himself at all.
