Chapter 7
My eyes stung terribly, and I fought hard to hold back the tears, but they still slipped down into the pillow.
It turned out that in my past life, I had unknowingly lost my child too.
At this moment, Nico finally noticed me. With a stern expression, he walked into the room.
“Evelynn, what the hell are you doing? After all that fuss, you ended up in the hospital. You sure have some skill!”
He looked at me coldly, as though I were a stranger.
“Enough. Stop pretending. What child? What miscarriage? I think you just want to make a
scene!”
The doctor beside us couldn’t take it any longer.
“Make up stories?! Get this straight, we’re in a hospital. When this patient was brought in, we conducted a thorough examination and confirmed she was six weeks pregnant.”
“You’re her husband, and you’re not concerned? Dressed all fancy, but in reality…”
The doctor’s words made Nico’s face turn dark.
He ordered Johnny to take the doctor out and then turned back to me.
“Alright, everyone’s gone. Stop pretending.”
I licked my dry, cracked lips and looked up at this man I had once deeply adored, only to
feel how unfamiliar he was now.
“You think I’m pretending? Nico, don’t talk to me like that.”
“The ones who kidnapped me did it because of you. It’s your fault that I got caught up in this because you took away their business! And now you’re saying I’m pretending?!”
Raising my voice a little caused the pain in my wound to flare up, making me gasp sharply.
Listening to Johnny’s explanation, Nico must have understood that I wasn’t lying. He fell
silent for a long time.
At that moment, Rosalie suddenly sat next to me, her gentle, charming face filled with sympathy.
“Ms. Evelynn, it’s just a child. You’re still alive, why hold a grudge against Nico like this?”
“To be honest, a woman should know when to stop.”
Her words tasted so bitter I couldn’t control myself and rolled my eyes.
“What does this have to do with you, Rosalie? Who do you think you are, talking to me like that? His mother? His father?!”
“You’re nothing but an illegitimate person. What right do you have to speak to me like that?”
I had been holding these words in for far too long, for both my past and present life, and I couldn’t hold back anymore.
After we got married, Nico showed no hesitation in meeting with Rosalie. Whenever I asked, he just got impatient.
“They’re just friends. Don’t I have the right to make friends? Evelynn, I married you, what
more do you want?”
But how could I be satisfied?
On our anniversary, he openly attended an event with Rosalie, completely disregarding my
presence.
During a typhoon, he made me go buy desserts for Rosalie in the suburbs, forbidding me
from taking a taxi.
For the little love I received, I endured it all.
But after really dying once, I finally understood. Endurance doesn’t change anything.
I snapped back to the present. Rosalie’s face turned pale, as if she had swallowed a fly. This
was the first time she’d seen me so aggressive, and her eyes were reddened with grievances.
“Alright, looks like I’m the extra one here.”
With that, she started to leave, but Nico suddenly pulled her back into his arms.
