chapter 8
“Rosalie, why are you bothering with this woman? How could you be unnecessary? You’re my precious girl.”
He patiently coaxed her until Rosalie’s expression improved.
This deep affection cut through my heart like a knife.
But before I could react, Nic
raised his hand and slapped me hard across the face.
“Apologize to Rosalie!”
The slap left me dizzy, and I could taste blood in my mouth. Johnny standing beside us was
stunned.
“Mr. Turner… Mrs. just had a miscarriage…”
Nico sneered dismissively.
“Who knows if that’s true? Even if it is, what if it’s not my child?”
“We both know her methods all too well, don’t we?”
It took me a while to gather my thoughts, my eyes locking onto Nico’s cold face. The thread
I had been holding onto in my heart finally snapped.
“Nico,”
I forced myself to sit up, leaning in close to him, and raised a wide smile.
“You’re right. If we can’t go on, then let’s get a divorce.”
With that, I raised my hand and slapped him back.
Nico staggered, his face flushed red with anger.
“How dare you hit me?! Evelynn, you really have some guts!”
“Fine, fine. Let’s get divorced then. Let’s see how you’ll live without me!”
His voice grew louder, his eyes filled with hatred, almost as if he wanted to tear me apart.
“Back then, you threw yourself at me and forced me to marry you. Now you’re pretending to be innocent? You’re really good at twisting the truth!”
“Johnny, freeze all her cards!”
He left those words hanging in the air before pulling Rosalie out of the room, striding away.
At the door, Rosalie didn’t forget to throw me a mocking look.
She was smug, knowing that even though Nico was married, she still held his heart.
So, she had no hesitation in humiliating me, as if I were the loser in this love affair.
But what did I do wrong?
After I saved Nico’s father all those years ago, I couldn’t refuse his request to visit his house
a few times.
Sometimes Nico was there, and since we were in the same field of study, we’d talk a bit.
But it was always brief because I knew he couldn’t let go of Rosalie.
Their families had deep ties, and though Rosalie never openly confessed her feelings, she never turned him away either. The bond between them was firmly in her control.
I shouldn’t have had such hopes.
But fate came faster than I imagined.
