Chapter 25
“RalphTM” King Miroslav asked worriedly. He had been looking at her and noticed that something was eating her up. It wasn’t he would consider normal, but then he was determined to make sure she was okay. If the Kolov beta being here was a bother to her that much, then he would take him out.
I’m okay. Can I go mingle! I’ll be fine,” Ralphine said as if to reassure the king. She didn’t want to worry him. Perhaps that was why she spoke up before he could even say anything. She could only imagine how having her past in the same room was affecting him and she hoped it would be fine.
Then again, she knew this wasn’t going to be easy for him and she couldn’t really blame him for worrying for her. He had seen her at her worst and she didn’t want to make a habit of keeping his mind preoccupied with just her instead of the Lycans he was taking care of. Maybe she would be better soon, right?
“Okay. If you need me, just call me and I’ll be there in seconds, alright?” the King said, even though he was skeptical about letting her mingle with them. He knew they could still smell her rogue scent and it would affect how they interacted with her He was worried they would look at her differently even though she was the one in power at the moment,
However at the same time, the Lycan king hoped that his Lycan mark was making it better. He didn’t want anyone to julge her and even if they judged her, none of them was gutsy enough to challenge him. Maybe she would be able to overlook that and enjoy the night
With her mate’s approval. Ralphine walked to where Drescher was. She had no reason to come to this side, but she felt like she needed to know what he was thinking. It wasn’t because she needed his approval for everything she did, but because she wanted to make sure that regardless of what happened, he wouldn’t try to mess her up. If anything, the 2as doing this, for her.
“You’ve been staring at me. Drescher. What do you want?” Ralphine asked, her voice devoid of any emotions. She hated this guy. She despised him so much that if she could, she would kill him herself and get away with it, after all. She was the Lycan queen, no?
Granted, she was ready to lead a rational life but then she had a feeling that all rationality had gone out the window the moment she accepted the King’s bond. It was always that simple, but why didn’t it feel as simple then? What was she to make of this situation right now?
“Why? You think I came all this way for you?” Drescher asked, a sinister smile on his face as he looked at the woman standing before him. She intimidated him no doubt, but he wouldn’t let her know that. Besides, he had been powerful and reigned over her more than once. So, this didn’t mean anything to him.
Drescher Volkov could smell the Lycan scent coming off of his ex–mate, and instinctively, he looked in the direction of Miroslav who strangely wasn’t looking at him. That should have gotten him at ease and had him doing whatever he wanted. but there was something about him not being worth the King’s attention that made him curious. There had to be a way out for them, regardless of what they did.
“Did you!” Ralphine asked as she grabbed a jar of beer from the nearest table. She had never tasted the beer and wasn’t certain that it was good for him. However, she had to, at least that would give her the liquid courage to get through this night.
Ralph looked like she didn’t give two shits about this man, which was true, but at the same time, she was scared that he would try something and get her hurt or even worse. There was so much that she still hadn’t achieved and needed to, and with Drescher hovering around, she wasn’t ready to be fucked over.
“Why are you here, Drescher? What is this for you? Why would you bring yourself here after everything you did? Surely you didn’t think he doesn’t know what you did to me, no?” Ralphine asked as she looked at the Lycan King who was looking at her. It was almost like the King had been waiting to see if his crasthai was a danger. Granted, right now she wasn’t, but that didn’t make it any easier for the possessive King who was merely seconds away as he had promised.
She knew that word had spread across the realm about where she was and most importantly, about who the deadly king had chosen Perhaps she was being presumptuous but then with the king and his reputation, it was more than obvious that everyone already knew her and where she came from. They were looking at her differently, so maybe she was right to make that choice.
“Ralphine…” Beta Drescher began as he looked at her. There was something in his eyes that screamed regret. There was more in those eyes and Ralphine knew because she was good at studying people. She had been hurt so many times that she had to learn every expression that could be made by the eyes. And right now, as she looked into Drescher’s eyes, she could see regret and apologies. She wasn’t sure what to make of that because she was certain they weren’t gemme.
sire had been tricked one too many times by the Koslov wolves and she knew that there would always be something to pay for in the end. She wanted to know why he was doing this, and unlike the other times when she could assess and give in to the emotions she was seeing in the other person’s eyes, today was different. So much pain had gotten her knocking the doors of death one too many times and she wasn’t going to pretend that she wanted him here.
What We both know that the alpha could have come by himself. So why tag along? What were you hoping for?” Ralphine pressed on and anyone who was listening to the both of them would think that she native to what he had come for her. Well, it was the truth to some point, but there was no telling what was going on in Drescher’s mind.
The man was a puzzle on his own and the things we had done over the years had made it seem like there wasn’t much that could be done. Maybe he had changed, but five weeks wasn’t long enough. She didn’t need to worry about that, at least not this time anyway. All she needed was to make sure that he wouldn’t bother her again.
“I came to see the Lycan Kingdom, Ralphine, that is all. Besides, the king himself extended the invitation to all of us who are here. I don’t know what you expect from me. Drescher said, even though his words didn’t reach his eyes. It was like he was trying his best to hold the fort, but he was slowly dying inside from the reality of seeing the woman he had mindlessly rejected climb up the ladder and be the most protected and powerful woman in the entire realm.
come and
There were times he wished for the impossible and this right there was one of them. He always wanted a chance to c see Ralphine, but he never expected her to be claimed by the King. Maybe he needed to just leave them be, but what was he supposed to do when he couldn’t hear his heartbeats in his ears when he was around her? There was more he wanted to say. more he could have done, but then he was late, perhaps it was the only way for him, yeah?
“I just wanted to make sure we’re on the same page. Don’t be hopeful for any reason, and remember I won’t forget what you did. You did what you will, and I will do what I will with the whole situation,” Ralphine said, even though her words were foreign to her ears. For someone who valued peace, there was nothing peaceful about the tone she was using with him. It was filled with anger, rage, and a type of disappointment that made her want to wring his neck.
I’ll see you later, or not, Ralph. You look better than the last time anyway, Drescher said as he walked past the Lycan queen. He had seen King Miroslav coming closer to where they were and frankly, he wasn’t in the mood to deal with the King, then again he couldn’t deny that there was some gigabit Ralphine today that made him want her back. Maybe he was being selfish. but he just like every man in the room could not forget the aura of the Lycan queen. She was powerful even though she wasn’t yet installed as the queen.
The rest of the evening went by in a blur as everyone focused on the party. It was a beautiful night that faded into the morning. Happy and fatigued, the leaders left the Lycan Kingdom, while the King and his queen went back to their chambers They didn’t talk of what had happened that night, and like an unspoken pact, the King and queen went about their daily activities.
In the weeks that followed, the activities in the Lycan Kingdom were geared towards preparing for the warlocks who had attacked them. They were preparing for a battle, one that would involve magic against magic. The King had kept his erasthai at bay, though at that time, he made sure that Kara trained her. He wanted her to be better at battle so she could gain her weaponry skills.
Of course, it wasn’t easy and they barely saw each other but they knew they were there for themselves. The Lycan Kingdom had become so accustomed to the idea of having the Lycan queen, even though there wasn’t a ceremony yet for her. They couldn’t be blamed though, because the issue with the warlocks was taking a lot of their time, and needed to be addressed soonest. Perhaps they would get a handle on all of it, but until then they would wait it out
“How is she, Kara?” the Lycan King asked.
“She’s doing well, your highness. Her training is easier, and her Lycan has shown up twice. She is no longer a rogue, but a Lycan. Soon enough she will be ready to ascend the throne. Kara said to her King who looked at her hopefully. He knew what they had been doing wasn’t easy, but getting this good news made him want to go and tell his queen that he was proud of her. He wanted to be there for her, but as always, he was a busy man. He had done so much for his people and had kept his queen protected bike the treasure she was.
“That is good. Keep training her. We have a lot of enemies and the sooner we deal with the warlocks, the sooner we will get this phase over and done with,” the King said and his warrior just looked at him in understanding.
Kara no longer hid in maid clothes, but she dressed up as the queen’s high guard. It was a position coveted by many, but then she was the only person that Ralphine trusted after all that happened to her. The King hadn’t fought her with that, just like he let her have everything she wanted. He was good to Ralph, that much was obvious, but even he couldn’t deny that there was something else going on..
Sure, there is something else, Kara said, the worry on her face making a show. She looked like she was about to say something
cult, but even that didn’t matter right now because she was loyal to the King
It’s about the queen”
