Chapter 29
“Ah Polina, you’re back. I was actually looking for you. I have an assignment for you and Viktor. The both of you need to go to Koslov and arrange a good day to meet the alpha and his beta, Drescher Volkov. It’s been long overdue and I don’t want to postpone it,” King Miroslavy said to Polina as he looked at the woman who appeared before him.
The battle with the warlocks was almost over, given that the warriors he had sent, and Helon had already sent word that they were coming home. The battle had been long enough and he didn’t want to keep his people waiting. The warlocks were dangerous, but now that Helon and the warriors were coming home, it meant that they had won and that chapter of their lives was almost over. He needed to give the Lycans their queen to ease their minds.
“Oh alright. That sounds like a good idea. The people of Asmori are getting antsy since the queen has not been home for a while now. Maybe arranging that meeting is the best you can whip out at the moment,” Polina said as she stared at the king.
“Yeah, poor thing. She probably thinks I’m going to reject or abandon her,” King Miroslav said defeatedly and Polina just chuckled at his statement of course it wasn’t strange to her to see the Lycan king care for someone this much, because Miro had always been there for her and Viktor and Heion. He was a loyal king and more than anything, he was a loyal friend
Polina could tell that Miroslav hadn’t caught up to what she had said and it would just be a matter of time before he did. She was looking forward to that moment when hell broke loose because then it would mean that she was a’step closer to getting the man she loved back. She hated that Ralphine had just popped from nowhere and was now taking the man she had been pining over for years. It just didn’t seem fair to her and she wasn’t going to let it happen with ease. Not when she could stop them.
In silence, Miroslav and Polina went through the reports on the king’s desk., working their way through the part of the job they hated the most. Reading the reports was harder for the Lycan royals, more than going to war and risking being killed was. At least they wouldn’t be bored on the battlefield. But then again, there were just some things that they couldn’t postpone because they wanted to. It just didn’t work like that.
Your majesty, may I please come in? What?” Kara, Ralphine’s personal guard said before her statement trailed off into nothingness as she looked at Polina who was smirking at her. She had seen Polina leave with Ralphine. She had been so sure that the woman had been the one who told her to stay behind because the queen was in good hands. Oh, but Kara was confused.
“You… Here?” Kara asked when she was certain that she wasn’t hallucinating Polina’s presence There was just no way that this was real, but given she was here with the king, going over the reports, it couldn’t be an illusion.
“She’s doing her job, just like you should be doing yours,” King Miroslav said and Kara just stared at Polina even more.
She wasn’t sure she had seen the Lycan queen back, because the first thing would have been for Ralph to be in her room. However, the woman wasn’t there. If anything, there was no trace of the queen in the entire kingdom and Kara had confirmed it herself. Something was at play here and as much as she wanted to say this wasn’t what she was thinking it was, she knew she couldn’t just give it up like that.
“Yes, Your Highness,” Kara trailed off, unsure of how she was supposed to spell it out for the king.
“You had something to say, didn’t you?” the king asked, lifting he head so that he could see for himself what the warrior wanted
Kara knew how dangerous it was to interrupt the king, and her being here at this time of the day, meant that it had to be important. Perhaps it was truly important that the king listen to her, but would the warrior spell out what she had come for?
“I can come back later, sire,” Kara said, excusing herself even before the king could say another word. It was almost like she was running away from the king and Miroslav noticed that. He was curious, but let it go
“She’s a strange one, that one,” King Miroslav mused as Viktor walked in with a bubbly face.
“You’ll grow old if you keep sinking into your work like that And Polina, I thought you hated working? Why are you here encouraging his habits when he should be somewhere with his queen introducing her to the mighty aspects of the great.

Chapter 29
Lycan king, huh?” Viktor teased while the king just rolled his eyes at him.
Ever since the king accepted Ralph as his Erasthai, Viktor had made it his mission to taunt the king and make him feel like they needed heirs. Of course, it was harmless teasing but there were times when Miroslav wondered whether it would be a good thing for him to see little pups that bore his blood and were his, running around the palace hallways like they owned the world. It was an idea that gave Miroslav a lot of pride, thinking of the woman he was mated to, and thanking the goddess for that nearing reality.
However, the king figured he needed to take his time with Ralphne. He didn’t want her to feel like her only function in the kingdom was to produce heirs and be ready to please the king whenever he wanted to. It was part of the job, sure, but it wasn’t her only job. The queen was there for the stability of the kingdom. Only she would be able to get through to her husband in ways that no one else could. That in itself made her the most powerful person in the reign.
“She’s probably asleep right now. I don’t want to wake her up. Ispend the night here,” Miroslav said
“Well then, goodnight you paperwork lovers,” Viktor said, before Miroslav stopped him.
“You and Polina will be going to Koslov tomorrow. Be ready to do whatever it takes to arrange for a perfect date for my meeting with Beta Drescher. That bastard needs to pay for what he did to my queen,” Miroslav said and Viktor looked at him worriedly.
He had never heard Miroslav talk so softly and it was new to him Sure, there was always a danger whenever Miroslav spoke, but this time, it felt like there was more to it. They couldn’t blame him though. The man had never had a mate and he wanted to protect the woman so she wouldn’t be in danger again. He needed her to be comfortable and he would do whatever it took to keep her safe.
Well then, it’s a date-” Polina responded casually, getting ready to leave the king’s office, but just like he did Viktor, the king stopped her.
“You mentioned carlier that the queen has not been home for a while. What does that mean?” Miroslav asked and Viktor choked.
The queen has not been home? That’s impossible,” Viktor said, just as Polina spoke, silencing them all.
“She’s with Drescher, in Moscow,” Polina said and the room instantly began getting smaller.
The Lycan king scoffed, before he glared at his best friend daring her to say the same thing. It was crazy what the woman had said and it was already grounds for murder by the king. Miroslav Ibrahimovich never needed anyone’s authority to do anything, but lately, he had been trying to be rational for the sake of the Erasthai he had been given by the deities. There was just no way that same woman was out there with her ex, right?
“Careful, Polina. Those might be your last words, old friend,” King Miroslav warned and Polina just raised her hands in surrender. She didn’t want to get on the king’s wrong side, because then it would be impossible for her to be his queen and even worse, for her father’s social status to be improved. She wanted to be there for the Lycan king and if this was the only way for her to do it, then she would, without thinking twice about the consequences.
“I’m telling you the truth, Miro. I took her out to go shopping in Moscow because I figured she was lonely here and bored from all the training. Besides, I noticed she didn’t have enough clothes. So, like I promised you, I was nice to her and took her shopping. I guess you failed to get the credit card alerts give how worried you are. But lag story short, we ran into Drescher and she told me she was leaving with him.
“She said that staying in Asmoria was good and all, but that it wasn’t for her and that she was better off a wolf than a Lycan queen, a role that no one has ever managed to get filled in years Polian said, making sure to make it sound like the king had been abandoned by his queen.
I wasn’t out of Miroslav’s expectations though. He always had a feeling that power and everything that came with the queenship was a lot for a woman like Ralph. That was why he was delaying the whole process. He wanted to case her into the role so she wouldn’t feel suffocated. And now, he seemed to have failed terribly because the woman he was falling in love with had left him for the same man who had broken her into bit
Chapter 29
“You don’t mean that, Polina, There is just no way that she would leave this palace to go and be with the bastard who hurt her. It’s not like Miro had been harsh with her, yeah?” Viktor tried to be rational as if to tell the king that this was probably Polina pulling their leg, but if that was so, then where was she? Where was the love of his life at the moment? What the hell was he supposed to do?
“Sire, you summoned me,” a scared Kara walked in, while Viktor was musing. Turns out, she had been called for questioning by the king using the mind links. Perhaps Kara’s statement would prove Polina wrong, yeah?
“Where is the Lycan queen, Kara. Where is your assignment?” King Miro asked and Kara bowed her head in shame.
“She hasn’t come home yet, Sire. She left with Miss Polina and didn’t come home,” Kara responded fearfully. She knew this wasn’t good news, not for her and certainly not for Ralphine.
But maybe Ralphine had a valid reason for leaving him, right?
