Chapter 34
Rykar knew his best friend and his obsession with the Lycan queen. He had warned him against acting on the idea one too many times and here and now, he sure hoped his friend was wise enough not to seek war with the Lycans. It was not going to end well for their race and if they weren’t careful, they were risking an extinction.
“I know nothing of your insistence, Rykar. Perhaps it is time for you to leave,” Drescher said coldly to his best friend, ignoring the possible risks. He had known what was at stake when he had taken Ralphine and he wasn’t going to give her up that easily, even if it meant that he had to gaslight his friend. There was always going to be a reason for this, given he had donc
“Fine. but if you what anything about her-
“I’m not planning on leaving this cabin for the rest of the week, Rykar. Perhaps that is something you should consider telling the other warriors. I don’t feel too well. You can always drop by and pay me a visit. Of course, if you won’t be coming to judge me for the disappearance of my ex thanks to her extremely powerful husband,” Drescher said.
Rykar felt like he had been punched in the gut. He wanted to say something to make it better but even he couldn’t make it out. He knew his friend may have been obsessed, but perhaps he shouldn’t have been quick to judge a man who had been by his side through and through. So wordlessly, the Koslov alpha walked out of their cabin and went back home, hoping to the goddess that Drescher wasn’t lying to him. It was too dangerous a gamble.
Drescher waited half an hour after Rykar left, so he was sure that the alpha wouldn’t be coming back to the cabin anytime soon. He couldn’t risk letting them know of his plans or even what he was hiding in the cabin as that would truly doom the pack. So, with his confirmation done, Drescher locked the cabin door, shut off the windows, and all the possible entrances He then turned off all light in the broom so it was just him and the darkness, not to mention the woman who was crying and squirming in there.
“You make a lot of noise for a girl who can’t fight for herself. Do you know your Lycan is still mature, which means that even though you’re the most powerful woman in the realm right now, you’re as strong as a dread puppy. I would suggest you stop trying to fight. No one is coming for you,” Drescher said when he reached the Lycan queen who was tied up, almost like Drescher was worried that she would break free and carb off his organs with just her claws.
Ralphine looked terrible. She looked like a sack of potatoes that was meant to be shipped in the next minute. Her hair was rugged and her lips were so dry and chapped that there were blood stains on them. She was really suffering in here. Her feet were swollen and her hands were numb from the endless struggle against the ropes. She felt like she was suffocating and if Drescher tightened the ropes just a little longer, she would give in to the darkness that had been seeking her out.
“He will kill you for this, Volkov,” Ralphine said and Drescher jug chuckles.
Of course,
the Koslov beta was very aware that Miroslav would definitely kill him for it, but that didn’t matter right now, given that he had what he had been seeking out for months. He had missed her and he would do whatever it took to be with her. What mattered was that this woman didn’t have to go to the barbarian anymore.
What mattered to him was that his woman didn’t go and warm the bed of a man who had no conscience, a man so brutal. that the world could burn and he would stand at the top of it, with a smile on his face. What mattered to the–Koslov beta was that there was never going to be a day when he would let the love of his life leave. He would fight her if he had to, if that was the only way to keep her by his side. Oh, but Drescher was losing his mind.
“Only if he finds you,” Drescher said confidently and Ralphine stared at the man like he had lost his mind. What the hell had gotten Drescher this confident that he didn’t mind going against the worst of the worst beats? It was a dangerous thing for him to do, but here he was, relishing the moment. Drescher was insane for this, and Ralphine wasn’t even sure if she could try and talk–some sense into him, perhaps she could find more answers, right?
Who put you up to this?” the Lycan queen asked, her voice so hourse. She couldn’t remember how long she had been here, but it had been very long hours without food and water. Her memory was still stuck in the moment when Polina had left and Ralphine wanted to be sure that the king’s best friend had no hand on this. She didn’t need to believe it but the odds were growing bigger and bigger by the second. Perhaps she could find out, again, right?

“Was it Polina?” Ralphine asked again, wondering if she had been delusional earlier but that was no matter because this time, she would try to remember everything that Drescher said. It wasn’t comforting, but then there was nothing she could do for herself.
“So many people want you dead in that kingdom, Ralph. You went there and threatened the very thing they yearned for for years and they are willing to do whatever it takes, to stay in power. You being there for the dark king, means they will be rendered useless overtime, and no one wants that, sweetheart. Do not worry though, sweetheart, I want to be with you. I will make up for m
past mistakes and I will make sure to give you a better life. This I promise,” Drescher said and Ralphine was convinced the Koslov beta had a few screws too loose on his head. She wasn’t sure if Polina had put him up to this, especially given how he had talked about the Lycans in general, but she had all the time in the world, so she would figure it out,
eventually.
“How kind of you, Volkov,” Ralphine mused’darkly.
