Chapter 56
“And this one here is our most wanted prisoner. The man with so many credits and many people wishing to take his life but we called dibs on him, so yeah. He’s here with us, Drescher fucking Volkov, the Koslov beta” Heion said to Alpha Bashir. The resentment that had been in his voice earlier had slowly faded as Heion introduced the Alpha to different segments of the dungeons. He was so thorough with them that anyone who did know that Bashir was an Alpha, could have thought that Heion had come to throw the Alpha into the dungeons while they waited for the king’s judgment. It wasn’t exactly the easiest thing but life had to go on.
“Drescher Volkov. What did he do to get here?” Alpha Bashir asked even though already heard the rumors about the daring beta who tried to defy fate when he had been the first to reject a bond that was meant for him. Funny how Drescher claimed he opened his eyes sooner to the truth of how valuable Ralph was to him. But then he was way past the point where he could try and make amends. Nothing would ever be the same regardless of what happened now. He was a prisoner for the Lycans and would be their toy soon enough.
The beta was the Lycan king’s prisoner and came to hell or high water. Only the Lycan king had a final say in what happened to Drescher. Perhaps that’s why he had Drescher watching as most of the prisoners were eliminated. Compared to the last time Heion had been here the dungeons had begun freeing. It was wild really, how fast the prisoners were being taken out, but then what else could be done? Most of those dead prisoners were forced to shift into their Lycans and their skins were cut off and sent to processing because they would be sold in the markets.
It was the only way that the king could ensure that the traitors to the Lycan kingdom would meet a deserving fate. There was no telling what fate that was for most of the prisoners, but then at the end of the day, going against the king or even the royals of Asmoria would always remain the worst of things that could have happened to anyone. Maybe that’s why there had been minimal criminal activities in the kingdom, or maybe this was just one of those times when crime rates were minimal right?
“That’s simple. He tried to mess with the queen and he landed here. Quite deserved if you ask me,” Heion said and the Alpha sighed. Once again there was an underlying warning in Heion’s tone. Bashir wanted to complain about it, but there was no point. The enforcer still distrusted him, and he couldn’t blame the man really. He hadn’t been the best of himself and hadn’t been a good guest from the very beginning. So expecting hospitality from this bunch was a little too much even for him. Perhaps he would find a way to make it all better, right?
“Ah, I see. It’s worth it. Anyway, can we head out, we have the alliance to start working on and limited time. My time here is just two weeks and I doubt that will be enough to forge a new treaty if we keep delaying,” Alpha Bashir said and Drescher growled. It was unexpected, given that this wasn’t exactly the place where Drescher should have been showing his fangs, but then there was a determination on the Koslov beta’s face, one that got Heion wondering if the two wolves knew each other.
“Excuse him. He’s been a mad dog since he came here, Heion said and Drescher just laughed maniacally. He had been tortured for weeks by the warriors, but then in all that time, he hadn’t once let out a sound. Yet here he was, bravely growling at the two like there was something amiss. It was crazy really because there was literally no reason for Drescher to try and talk to Heion, given that Heion despised him more than the queen herself. Or maybe there was more to it, right?
“It happens without prisoners too. Let’s head out, yeah?” Alpha Bashir said again and this time, Heion just sighed at Drescher before they headed out. In all that time, Drescher kept growling
However, before the alpha and Heion made it out of the dungeons, Drescher spoke words that got Heion a little too curious about who the fuck Alpha Bashir was and what his true intention was with the Lycan kingdopa, I made him wonder how this was happening a little too fast, almost like someone was pushing for it, like it needed to happen, but then was that true, or was Heion just being paranoid?
“Don’t sign that treaty, Heion. Tell Ralph not to agree to it” Drescher warned and Alpha Bashir stared at the man with a knowing smirk on his face, before shifting to one that was worried about the relations between the Lycans and the Mirza wolves in an instant Heion hadn’t seen the change in the Alpha, instead, he simply face–palmed as he walked out of the dungeons, with the Alpha following closely behind him.
“Don’t mind him. He talks gibberish most of the time. He probably wants to screw this up for the queen again.” Helon said to Bashir who just asked softly, He knew that there was much to be one with the treaty and he was hoping that the kilig wouldn’t mess it up. Hell, if Drescher was going to be a problem then they had to work this out, right?

“Why did he say that? Does he have any quarrels with me?” Alpha Bashir asked and Heion almost glared at the man. Then again, he had to remember that the Drescher was the problem this time and not the Alpha. Sure, the Alpha was an ass for what he had done yesterday, but that didn’t mean his entire personality was trash, right? Then again, why would Drescher tell them not to agree to the treaty when it was easily the best way to make sure peace reigned in the regions? It wasn’t like there were any risks that hadn’t been assessed, right? Or maybe here was. Maybe they needed to look deeper, but where?
“Hell if I know. Besides, he was warning me against letting the queen agree to the treaty… Your treaty, Alpha Bashir. You seem to piss people off a lot wherever you go, don’t you?” Heion asked as she shook his head. This was more than what he had bargained for. However, the Lycan enforcer had to make sure that everything was smooth.
Heion couldn’t help but think that there was more to what Drescher had said. For the first time since he had gone to the dungeon, he had been tempted to believe Drescher. Then again, who was to say that this wasn’t just another of Drescher plans to ruin the credibility of the treaties or even the relationship between the Asmoria kingdom and the Mirza pack? There was so much that couldn’t be desired and taking advice from Drescher Volkov was easily the worst idea. But what if Drescher had been right? Would they be able to fix whatever was coming for them?
“It’s starting to be a talent at this rate. I know you’re already thinking of the chances that Drescher is right, and I have no reason to tell you that he isn’t. You don’t know me, and you have every right to be skeptical. I just hope you don’t use my affection for your queen as the only reason you shouldn’t trust me. I have eyes and I know that she won’t ever choose me or fall in love with me. It’s not what every suitor wishes for, but then we can’t always win. And I already made my peace with that. I just hope you choose to trust me as the Alpha who came to make a treaty between our strong regions, and not a suitor who was scorned by your queen,” Alpha Bashir said earnestly and for a moment, Heion paused,
Heion hadn’t been expecting this, and he almost felt bad for the Alpha, but then he wasn’t going to admit it. The Mirza Alpha was a man who had ruled for years and he knew how to manipulate everything to fit his narratives. There was no reason for Heion to trust him, but then if this was for the treaty, then they had to be careful. Perhaps Drescher was just being jealous. There was no alignment anyway.
“Well, you need to stop pissing so many people… We’re here, Heion said when they got to the huge gates of the throne
room
“The throne room? Bashir asked and Heion stared at him as if to ask him whether he was blind to see the huge letters a little higher, that shouted throne room on them. Or maybe he was truly blind, right?
“The king said he needs to meet you here. Don’t ask me why, I don’t know. Besides, the meeting is between you, the King and the Queen. I doubt it’s because of the treaty. It could probably be about last night. Whatever it is, I can only wish you well, and hope your head isn’t severed by the time you make it out of there,” Heion said before he told the high guards to open the huge door for the Alpha, Heion didn’t walk in with the Alpha, instead, he walked away, the moment the throne room gates opened. This wasn’t his problem anymore, right?
“Make sure the Alpha doesn’t come out of the throne room until the king says so, Heion said to one of the high guards who was headed in the direction of the throne room. The huge guard was confused but he just nodded because frankly, there seemed to be a lot that was going on in the kingdom.
“Viktor, Kara… where are you guys Heion asked in the mind link. He needed to figure out the missing puzzle and find out what the heck was going on. Unlike the relaxed Bashir, Heion always took threats to heart and until he was sure that the Alpha meant well for Asmoria, he wasn’t going to rest. The one thing that the Alpha hadn’t known was that Drescher was high on drugs and while his mind was not at its best, it was enough to get the beta spilling nothing but fasts. In the past weeks, they had gotten to learn about Drescher’s apparent unconditional love for Queen Ralphine.
It had been a pathetic yet horrifyingly beautiful story that got Helon and Viktor feeling terrible for the man. If Drescher hadn’t dared to kidnap their queen for an entire week, they would have released him and wished him well. They would have told him that there was life after love; but that wasn’t something they could tell to the man who had caused their kingdom distress. It wasn’t how things worked and maybe they would have gotten along well. But then fate was a son of a bitch,
On the western lawn. The sun is beautiful today. You can join us if you wish to.” Viktor replied and Kara seconded. Heion, scoing as there was nothing for him to do, figured there was no harm in going to be with his friends. So, he went to them.
“You sounded bothered. What is it? Viktor was the first to ask, their years of friendship, they had managed to unlock parts of each other that were so simple and subtle, that anyone could have missed. Like at the moment, Kara hadn’t picked

up on the stiff tone that Heign had used, but Viktor had noticed. Perhaps it was commendable that this happened to them and they had something to hold on to
“It’s about Drescher,” Heion said as he plopped on the ground, next to his friends. They had been right, the sun sure was a beautiful thing today.
“What about him? Was he overdosed on the truth drugs again? Please don’t tell me we will get to hear his rant about his unconditional love for the queen. That shit is gross and makes me want to puke each time,” Kara begged and Heion let out a chuckle.
“Nope, not that. He told me not to trust Alpha Bashir. He said the treaty wasn’t a good idea and I somehow can’t seem to get that out of my mind. If he wasn’t doped on drugs I would have said that he was trying to mess with us. But Viktor, what he crazy bat in the dungeons is right? What if the Alpha isn’t good for Asmoria in any way? What if his intentions are not ret What then?” Heion asked. He hated being in such situations but then it seemed like there was no way for him to escape this. After all, he was the enforcer and their little friend group had the most trusted team but their king.
“That Alpha sure seems fishy.. I think Drescher is right this time,” Kara said.
