Chapter 71
With the King’s declaration, there were whispers in the throne room. No one knew what to expect or even how to. They had been here for a while and they could see how tired the King and his queen were. Sure, they wouldn’t complain as this was their duty to the people of Asmoria, but that didn’t make them any lesser people and any more robotic. They needed to get a hold of themselves. But then as it was, the King had so much to work on that he figured he could get on with it.
Alpha Bashir and his treaty and truths being the first subject was shocking for a moment there until it wasn’t anymore. The moment the Alpha had opened his mouth to talk about the queen, they knew shit was about to go down. The only good thing about all of this was that even in distress, even if the kingdom was against him, the Lycan King never tried to win his people back by lies. He always faced everything head–on, even if it meant that he would be hurt in the process. This was a walk in the park for him.
“A trial for my father, Your Highness. I want a trial for my father, the alpha said and the Lycan king let out a dark chuckle. Either Alpha Bashir had to be the dumbest of sons or he was literally the most useless Alpha of all time. Requesting a trial for his father and that too in front of King Miroslav Ibrahimovich was the worst thing he could have ever done for his father. This was not even a democracy anymore and the king wanted to make sure Alpha Bashir was certain of the decision he
made.
The mess that Bashir was in, he had created himself when he snuck his father out of the dungeons. And the fact that the Lycan King had seen his father in the guest house, was proof that the alpha didn’t respect the demands and the terms of their agreement. Getting prisoners out with magic just because he could, and that too in a kingdom where magic was everyone’s thing, was a shitty move on Bashir’s end and just because he had the support of his rogues, didn’t mean that the Asmoria kingdom would recognize the hooliganism he was orchestrating. Choices sure did have consequences and the Alpha had to remember that.
“Are you certain about that?” the king and everyone stared at Alpha Bashir like he needed to think this over. This was truly his chance at a fresh beginning. Then again, Alpha Bashir was overreacting. He was a heartbroken man on all fronts. He had been hoping that the treaty and some little lies could save him and his father from the hands of the cruelest man alive and yet he had managed to drag himself to the centre of a war that was so messy the universe would have to plead his case in another lifetime. This was the most dangerous thing that the alpha had done and he would soon learn of the consequences.
“Yes, I am. The treaty gives us a chance to have a sit–in for the trial. As the Mirza representative, that is all I ask for my father.” Alpha Bashir said confidently like he knew that this was he best thing for him. maybe it really was, but then what were the chances that this was a lame attempt at a dismissal?
At the alpha’s statement, the Lycan king stared at him one more time, as if giving him a chance to take it back. This was dangerous, this was the worst thing that the man could have asked for, but then he wanted a trial, right? There was pride and surety in the Alpha’s voice and it was that that encouraged the King to make the cruelest decision for any wolf ever.
“Alright. You will get a trial. The trial for your father, Al Bashiri, will take place tomorrow, and it will be led by the high guards of Asmoria, the queen’s defenders. The Lycan beta and the enforcer will also be sitting on the panel to determine the best punishment for your father. Pray that it all goes well for you because they are pretty pissed about so many things lately.” the Lycan king said and Alpha Bashir let out a defeated gasp.
He had been expecting that the queen would be there so that the woman would be able to talk her husband into making a sensible decision. It was supposed to be that easy, and to make things better, but right now, as he looked around at the said high guards, Alpha Bashir knew he and his father were scared. There was no coming safely out of this. There was never going to be a chance for his father to see the light of day again and the smirk on Kara’s face told that to him.
“We would have loved to join in, but as it is, my queen and I will be sleeping in for the day. We have had a rough month and when today’s agenda is over we will be taking two days off. Congratulations on the trial, Alpha Bashir, and good luck with it too,” the king said before adding. “You can leave now, we need to talk about matters pertaining to Asmoria, and not the treaty. Once again, congratulations Alpha on the trial. You and your father will be the first wolves on the cruelest trial table in the world.”
Alpha Bashir was confused. He was hurt, and he couldn’t think straight. He could already imagine what the high guards would decide for his father. He had spent this life with most of the Lycan and they had described the high guards as fifty little devils who thought like Miroslav and had every dark desire the king had. They were the sports thing that could ever

happen to anyone, of course, after Miroslav. They were the devils of the kingdom and the worst of the worst. The rumors about the high cards were suddenly shutting Alpha Bashir, but then he had put himself in that position.
“Do you have any objections, Alpha Bashir?” King Miroslav asked and the amusement was so obvious in his voice even as he stared at Alpha Bashir, while he fixed his crown that hadn’t even moved an inch from what it was like earlier. That little action was almost like he was reminding Alpha Bashir that he was the king, and he could decide whatever happened. He was the man with the cards in his hands and even though the high guard would be leading the trial, if the King told them to burn the wolves they would do it without a second thought.
This was something everyone already knew, but with Alpha Bashir testing his patience at every corner, the king was done playing nice. Maybe this would be enough. And Alpha Bashir would reconsider screwing with Miroslav Ibrahimovic again. was easily the worst thing that the Alpha could have done, but none was counting, right?

“No objections, your majesty. We are pleased with your decision Alpha Bashir said, the conviction that had once been in his voice, gone as he got up and began walking towards the door. He was scared, of what was waiting for them. He was scared of what this would mean for his father and even him, since he had caused the froe that had disturbed the peace of the Lycans. Oh, but Bashir knew he was in a lot of trouble with the high guards.
“Great. Please tell your after the high guard is waiting at the throne room doors to escort him back to the dungeons. We would hate for what happened to Polina to happen to your after dearest, because as we both know, the queen isn’t faculty warm and fuzzy when someone threatens what is hers. You might do well to remember that the next time you wish to provoke herfury,” the king said and the queen starred in science
She looked like she was deep in thought when in reality, she just wanted to wake herself to Ala–Alpha Bashir and ask him why they did what they had done. Her parents had long died and now they were slowly figuring out what had truly happened. Ralph wasn’t sure if she needed to thank her husband or if she needed to strangle the fuck out of her best friend. Whichever decision she made, she could tell that the kingdom would be having her back. Oh, to be powerful and broken,
“Yes, Your Highness,” Alpha Bashir forced out and Ralph held back a smirk as he watched her best friend walk out of the room, with a disappointed face. Sometimes honestly only brought more pain, like right now Ralph was left wondering what the fuck she was supposed to do with the information she had gotten. Was she meant to go after Bashir’s father or was she to go after Drescher? What the fuck was in it for her I the end? Peace? More chaos! Nothing!
“Great, now that the treaty is sorted and the fire, we move to our next subject, Polina Rostova, warrior of Asmoria and traitor to the very kingdom she served,” the king said and Polina’s father immediately began looking lost. He looked like he hadn’t been expecting this to get to him, but then with what his daughter had done, surely he wasn’t expecting to receive hugs and kisses form the king and his queen, right?
What Polina had done had ruined so many things for the kingdom. Polina had even a high warrior. He had been in the king’s inner circle and even then she somehow found herself in the middle of the mess. She should have been content with knowing that they had a queen and yet she was so desperate for power that she pushed herself beyond any and all limits. But what were the chances that what she had done was her reaching out for help for her father?
“Elder Rostova, could you please step forward, the Lycan king said and the council began starting again. This was insane. This was uncalled for. No one had ever been summoned like that by the king and lived to see the next minute; and judging by the stares the entire throne room was giving the elder. They knew that this was probably the last time he would see any of them. The king was cruel and merciless to the people who betrayed him.
He had known his best friend for years and they had gone through the worst for the worst together. They had endured torture and mind games and in places where their loyalty to their friendship was tested in the worst of ways and yet Polina. had passed all the evaluations. There was even a time when the king had been forced to introduce a girlfriend, and Polina
any didn’t say anything about it. Instead, she had been welcoming of the woman and never caused
issues.
Perhaps that was also why the king was convinced that there was something in play. He refused to believe that the woman who was so loyal to him would simply decide to throw everything away in the name of love. Sure, love did make people do crazy things, but Polina Rostova was the most rational woman the king had met. She was more than a friend. She was like a sister to him. She knew all the ins and outs of Miroslav Ibrahimovich.
“Of course, your highness,” Polina’s father responded as he made a few steps forward and stood before the king, his head held high with pride and no remorse for the daughter he had lost. He was a little too strange. Hell, even the fathers who

raised devils always gortheir hearts shattered within their little devils were taken out. This father right here was not showing. any signs and it was disturbing the king’s mind.
There had been days that he even asked the king if he would be line with having a male mate, or even if the universe deemed him a little too strong and gave him different mates, a male and a female. Polina Rostova was a strategist, and a good one. She was someone that the king Miroslav could rely on just like the tiny friend group. And that also made her sudden desire for betrayal in the name of affection for King Miroslav something that didn’t make any sense to the king
Loyalty always came first and they had sworn a blood oath to always protect each other’s mates. So, what happened in the middle? What happened to the promise of always and forever a family? What happens to a kinship that had never been broken for three thousand human years? What happened to the loyalty they had forged through blood sweat and tears then? That is something that the Lycan king refused to accept.
He understood that his queen had done what was needed, but a part of him would always refuse to believe that Polina Rostova would betray him. She was loyal, and he wanted answers. If not for himself, or his queen, then for the girl who had been murdered for a sin so arbitrary and unexpected.
Polina Rostova knew how to do things without being caught and if the King was being honest, the thing with Drescher and Polina sounded so far–fetched and it was a little too sloppy for a woman of her caliber and skills. Hell, she knew the rules and how every system worked, so it just made no sense that she suddenly wanted to betray Miroslav because of a man who had whipped their queen. It just didn’t make sense and even if the king would stay here till the next fortnight, he would, as long as he got answers to the mess that had been created.
“Your daughter was executed on the charges of treason. Do you have anything to say about that?” the king asked and gasps were heard. The Lycan king was a piece of work and they didn’t know what he was playing at this time. Even his friends were green this time.
