Chapter 76
Kara and the Lycans had been waiting for the beta and enforcer for a while now and honestly, they were getting worried. Given the rap sheet that Al Bashir had, it was safe to say that they were worried that something had happened that needed their attention as soon as possible. There had bene a lot of changes in the kingdom and it had been worrying to a great extent, no matter what they did to try and make it all better.
With the Lycans asking and some of them anxious to know what was keeping them for long, Kara figured it would be easier for her to go and check it out for the sake of the Lycans. However, a passed–out Viktor wrapped in his own vomit was definitely not it, not with the huge flower pot on his head making him look like he had been in deep shit. This was insanity at best but Kara had a feeling that it was just the beginning of madness.
“What the fuck happened here,” Kara asked the high guards who had tagged along with her just in case she needed backup. Everything screamed confusion, so Kara listened for heartbeats to know whether Viktor was dead or alive. She sure hoped he wasn’t dead because it would be hard dealing with a heartbroken Miroslav again. This just wasn’t it. There was blood flowing into the hallways from the guest room and Kata knew that this didn’t mean well. So, she readied herself for a fight with Bashir and his father. She knew it wouldn’t be easy but she knew she had to do her best and not involve the King and Queen.
But when she opened the door to find two Lycan royals laughing like the world was all roses and sunshine in the middle of a room that explained the passed–out beta and enforcer, Kara wasn’t sure what to say. She couldn’t scold the royals for making a mess. She couldn’t understand what had triggered them like this, but one thing was certain. The King always said a reason and whatever it was, the high guard one she didn’t have a right to question the King.
“Go get the cleaners. And tell the Lycans that there will be no trial as the King and Queen fed on the captives,” Kara said with straight face as she looked at the excited high guard. She couldn’t blame the man. The high guards were natural preditors and anything that involved tearing people and creatures, leaving a lot of blood and messes that would take a while to clean. was always their memo. They always loved this so it didn’t seem like a lot for the high guards, especially seeing how he rushed out and went to gather the rest. Oh, this was something else.
“Aren’t you going to ask why, Kara?” King Miroslav said once it was just the three of them with an unconscious Heion on the floor.
If she was being honest, Kara wanted to know what had been so bad about letting the duo go to trial that they had just decided to put an end to it. The past few months had been a tad too confusing, but not more than the past week. They had come across a ridge of intonation that never made any sense. The treaty with the Mirza pack was one thing, the revolution that we were standing up for Drescher was another, and the fact that they still hadn’t Polina to think of was just overwhelming.
Ralph had been sure her brain would get fried at that rate, but then what else was there or be done? They had already eaten up the alpha and his father fed them to their Lycans like this was a feast of the dead. It was disheartening and crazy, but Kara wasn’t sure she had the heart to want to know how they had even done this. Hell, this duo was supposed to be taking the day off, so this was strange. She wanted to say something nice to the two of them but there was nothing on her lips. All of it was just shocking and she was worried about the consequences of the.
“I have no right to ask… I am just a warrior,” Kara said, her tone respectful as she walked on the blood puddle and went on to open the curtains. The room was a mess and she had expected it but with the curtains drawn, she wasn’t sure if she needed to make sure to never forget these two psychos or if she could find a different job than being the high guard. There was no way that these two were so calm in the middle of this.
Til tell you anyway. We solved the ultimate puzzle last night,” the Lycan King began and Kara stared at him as if to ask him what that even meant. There were so many things in the King’s mind that Kara knew rieeded to be sorted. And there were many that didn’t have definitive endings so the King just had to be specific about which puzzle he and the queen had solved that had gotten him and his queen this excited. Surely they had to have a good reason and mind for this, yeah?
“Oh, you’re confused. I’ll make it simpler. So, pay attention to it the King said and Kara sighed.
“You’ll love it, we promise,” an excited Ralph said, the blood spurting from her mouth reminding Kara that there was more work waiting for them than met the eye. This woman had come to Asmoria a simple girl, one who was broken by her former

pack, and yet she had found someone with a soul so dark that hard pulled her in instantly. There was no point in even trying to hope that she would be saved, because there was no need for saving her. She fit right in and it was so beautiful, right?
“Well then. Explain it to me like I’m six,” Kara said, seeing as there was no other way out for her here. She had questions but they were offering her an entire solution. She didn’t have to accept it but she could at least listen to what the fuck had provoked them to this point, right? Maybe along the way she would consider admitting them into an asylum just to be on the safer side. They were slowly becoming a little too dangerous and she had to admit that to herself.
“They were fakes, the King said and Kara stared blankly. She wasn’t sure who to react to so she just hoped silently that they would talk to her instead of getting her going around and round. She was really tired. She was even more confused than the passed–out warriors that she trusted with her life. If this was going to be it for them then she could as well find a way to make it all make sense, yeah?
“What he means to say is that Bashir and Al–Bashiri were fakes planted by Drescher to come and monitor me and make sure that I didn’t get to mate the King. They had come to see to it that no matter what happened, there was no way that the King would end up with me. As it is, the Mirza pack is filled with warriors from all factions, so it wasn’t hard to get a few rogue warlocks to come and make the trade. The plan was to make it seem like Polina was the traitor and Bashir would swoop in with a sob story on how much he loved Ralphine.
“It would then make my Ibrahim jealous so that he would be distracted. While the King would be distracted, the alpha’s father would free Drescher and then I would be forced to go to Koslow with them, because alpha Rykob, my uncle, wants me to stay linked to Koslov so the pack can run smoothly and they can assert their dominance as usual. It’s confusing really and it took me a while to understand it. The bottom line is, Polina was threatened and Drescher is a bastard. The real Bashir died years ago in the human lands just like I had imagined, and the imposter that came was just a rogue released from Mirza.
“As ipis, Mirza itself wouldn’t ever want a treaty with the Lycans, because most of the pack members were banished from their homes, and joined Mirza, because of the help their leaders had gotten from the Lycan Kingdom. Think of it like how I ran away from home because the Lycans had come home and had my parents turned to the stake. The alliance was a farce that wouldn’t have happened, because everyone in Mirza despises the Lycan Kingdom and would do anything to make it come to its knees, Ralph explained as she tied her hair in a ponytail like she was about to go on a third round of this mess but what third round was there?
What the fuck was she even doing? What the fuck was Kara supposed to make of this? All the pictures here just reminded her that there was a really high chance that the King and the Lycan Queen had lost their minds but then again the explanation was one thing that was a little too unhinged. Thankfully all the Lycans had heard their Queen thanks to the mind links that the King had opened for them to listen to everything firsthand. It was crazy and it wasn’t surprising that there were angry cheers outside the palace.
The Lycans were pissed and they wanted Drescher’s blood. It was exciting yet terrifying at the same time, but one thing was certain- no matter what happened, Drescher Volkov was never going to know peace. He had tried to lead the worst Lycan take–over for the woman he had rejected, and had failed miserably. It did not make sense as to why he had tried to make it seem like he was the saint. If his plan had gone right, then the King would lose the Queen and Asmoria would be brought to its knees. That was something that was too evil to even think of and yet Drescher had single–handedly made the impossible happen.
“When do we leave for Koslov?” Kara asked once she understood everything that was happening. The people who were in the revolution for Fresher had just signed their life sentences and if they knew what was best for them they needed to steer clear of the cyan Kingdom because otherwise they would be doomed. The Lycans wouldn’t show them mercy, but surely they had to have known that, right? Was their spite for the Lycan Kingdom really that intense that they were willing to lay their lives for a man who probably didn’t care about them?
What she had just heard was easily admissible as absurd, but then she trusted the King and the Queen. If anything, Kara was certain that Miroslav knew better than to try and manipulate the truth when the high guards had the ability to sense the truth and make sure that their queen was safe. Granted, this time it was the queen telling what they had earned, but there was no difference. The high guards would do whatever it took to keep the queen sane and they had to figure out a way to make that happen, with the madness headed for them.
“Are you guys okay?” Kara added when the two royals didn’t answer her first question. It was like they were suddenly deep in thought. It was obvious that they were wondering what would have become of their Kingdom if they had figured this out a little too late.

Now it made sense why the Rostova elder had kept silent. He was a respectable man, who was known for ruthlessness and his daughter had been bested by a bunch of traitors. That was something that he wouldn’t ever accept, and perhaps that was why it was easier for him to let the world know that his daughter was a traitor. Because at least then, he would remain the mighty and powerful Rostova elder who never bent the knee. He had lost his only child and would never have another and yet at the same time his silence had brought the house Rostova even more respect.
The elder’s silence had gone to prove that he was a neutral man, a man of the law who didn’t even try to stop the trial of his betrayed daughter. He wanted to prove that he was a man who didn’t try to get justice for his daughter regardless; he never interacted with traitors, even when his heart was shattering as Polina’s father. He couldn’t handle that. Perhaps that was also why Miroslav snapped; he had proved his best friend and she had gone just like that.
“We’ve never been better. Though we need to really get some rest this time. We spent the entire night interrogating the two. At least we got more answers this time, real answers that don’t need us going in circles. Now the only person we need to say hello to is Drescher Volkov. Whatever you do, just let the high guards know that we will be going to war with Koslov soon. It may be in a day or two days in a week or latest in a month.
“No matter what happens we will go to war and we will make things right. Someone has to see to it that justice is forgotten and bastards are made to pay the price for their sins, King Miroslav said and Kara just nodded. The entire thing was crazy but Kara got angrier thinking of how much manipulation their queen had to endure just because of a bunch of wolves who thought they could control her destiny. Oh, how Kara hated such people, but then she had to be patient.
“We’ll clean this place up. Please go clean up,” Kara said as she created a portal to the royal chambers in the Queen’s wing, where the Queen and her husband were meant to relocate the moment the Queen took her seat on the throne. They had completed the mating too, so there was no point in the both of them staying in the bachelor suite for the King It was time they moved to the larger suite anyway. So, Kara sent them through the portal while she waited to clean up the mess.
One thing was certain though. Not even the deities would be able to save Drescher from the fury of the Lycans, and that was honestly, very okay.
